Andrew Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, who made internet headlines last month with their very funny “Making Music with John Mayer,” (which, along with their “Acting With James Franco” was named one of the five best viral videos by ‘Esquire’) are hard at work developing a feature length version of their 2006 short film “American Storage,” the pair told MTV News.

“The short’s basically about a guy who works in a storage facility and his boss goes away on vacation, and he’s taking care of it, and he discovers one of the guys living in the storage units like the guy’s got it all hooked up with shag carpeting a bed and cable and stuff,” O’Brien said of the film’s set-up (which, unfortunately, can only be seen on DVD). “It’s like a strange buddy movie of these two guys becoming friends — between the guy working at the storage facility and the guy living there.”

But just because something works at 12 minutes, doesn’t mean it’ll work at 90, O’Brien admitted, revealing the slight tweaks they were making to pad the story out to feature length.

“In the feature version that we’re writing the guy who owns the storage facility is having financial problems and he sees the guy living there and he decides to open the storage place as an apartment complex,” the writer said. “A bunch of weird people come to live there so it’s like a weird ensemble comedy.”

While he previously directed the short, “American Storage” will mark Cohen’s feature length directorial debut. And he’s dying to invite back some old friends for the journey, including actors Martin Starr, Dave Krumholtz, and Steve Carell, who all starred in the original.

“We were lucky because when we made the short Judd and Steve were writing ‘Virgin’ together so Steve was gracious enough to say yes. And he’s awesome,” Cohen said of Carell’s brief performance in the film. “The lay of the land now and the lay of the land back then in terms of success is vastly different. But who knows? We’d love for that to happen.”
