On Sunday, we launched our Sneak Peek Week of upcoming summer films with a screening of Adam Sandler's "You Don't Mess With the Zohan," followed by a Q&A with the star moderated by our own Josh Horowitz. Yesterday evening, we held our second event, this time for the martial arts-themed comedy "The Foot Fist Way." In attendance for the Q&A was the film's star Danny McBride, writer/director Jody Hill and a little-known producer named Will Ferrell.
As the audience packed into the theater on the Paramount studio lot, our correspondent Tim Kash filmed an interview with Ferrell and McBride just outside.
(After the jump, the full report plus tons of pics!)
Tim's conversation with the pair ran the gamut from basics of the film (which was a fave of celebs at Sundance before it was picked up by Ferrell and his partner, Adam McKay) to trivia about the MTV Movie Awards. One of the highlights came when Tim asked about favorite martial-arts moves, prompting this to occur...
Yup, that's Ferrell demonstrating a deadly punch to McBride with poor shocked Tim stuck in the middle. While this spontaneous combat was occuring, inside the theater the audience was nearly finished screening the film.
As the lights came up, Josh took the mic and introduced our special guests to an excited crowd, including at least one woman inexplicably dressed as "SNL" character Mary Katherine Gallagher. As the audience exploded in applause, Ferrell took his victory jog down the aisle with McBride and Hill in tow.
Once the trio landed onstage, the questions flew fast and furious. "Was it more fun to berate old people or kids?" one audience member queried. "Depends on how fat the children are," replied McBride. Another questioner wondered if "The Foot Fist Way" was the new "Rocky" of karate films. "This is the 'Beaches' of Tae Kwon Do," responded Hill.
The session wasn't just all things "Foot," however, as Josh pushed Ferrell for tidbits related his upcoming big-budget adaptation of "Land of the Lost." "I was dancing among Pterodactyl legs last week," revealed the star.
One of the biggest laughs of the night came when Ferrell was pushed to let the crowd hear from "Anchorman" persona Ron Burgundy. With a friendly dismissal of the request, Ferrell deadpanned, "That would have been great...for you."
After the Q&A was dismissed, Ferrell had to beat a hasty retreat to attend another engagement, but not before we were able to grab this memorable photo of the group with Josh.
McBride and Hill managed to stay longer, mingling with the crowd, taking photos and signing autographs.
All told, one hell of an evening with three of the nicest guys in Hollywood.
Stay tuned for our next Sneak Peek Week report as we screen "The Rocker" tonight with stars Rainn Wilson, Teddy Geiger and Emma Stone.
The MTV Movie Awards will air live on MTV on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, with MTV News' "Coming Attractions" preshow kicking the evening off at 7:30 p.m. ET! Meanwhile, stay tuned to the MTV Movies Blog and MovieAwards.MTV.com.
