EXCLUSIVE: Jonah Hill Responds To ‘Transformers 2’ Rumors, Extends ‘Jump Street’ Offer To Johnny Depp

Jonah HillDespite contrary reports from earlier this week, Jonah Hill won’t be in the new “Transformers” movie. But he SHOULD be.

That’s my opinion, anyway, after the 24-year-old “Superbad” star told MTV News why he ultimately turned down the blockbuster project.

“I just think like I have to prove myself more in what I’m doing now, making comedies and stuff before I do the big action movie or something, you know? I’m not proven yet,” Hill confessed. “I’ve only been in one movie that people have seen that I’ve been the lead in so like, um, I could still suck in people’s minds, they don’t know yet!” (After the jump, more on “Transformers” and see him talk “Jump Street” on video!)

Hill was rumored to star as Shia LaBeouf’s college roommate, a role that presumably would have skewed comedic. The star of upcoming films like “This Side of the Truth” and “21 Jump Street” says thanks, but no thanks. Call him for “Transformers 3.”

“It was very cool of them but I thought I should make some more comedies first, you know?” Hill said. “I love the Transformers movies and Transformers was one of my favorite shows from when I was a kid. I think it’s going to be an awesome movie. Unfortunately, I’m not in it.”

If anyone needs any more proof that Hill’s head is in the right place in regards to his future career, check out what he said about his “21 Jump Street” project, which will not be made if it’s no good, he told MTV News.

But the best part? He’s even extending an olive branch to an old “21 Jump Street” veteran. Let’s hope it comes together – this one could be a doozy.

“We have an awesome thing for [Johnny] Depp, if he’ll do it,” Hill enthused. “I don’t know if he will or not, [but] it’s going to be rad!”

What do you think? Fan of Hill’s? Disappointed he won’t be in “Transformers 2”? Does his take on “Jump Street” make you confident he’ll do a good job? Sound off below.

  1. Hill would of been great in transformers 2...I think actually it would of worked in his favor...something mainstream like that could of opened a lot of doors for him....as for 21 jump street, as much as I love him, I am not feeling it. It reminds me of Starsky and Hutch, a horrible remake of a mediocre show. I am sort of over the whole re-make trend. but i have been wrong before. how come i am always one of the first people to comment on these things as of late....i must have no life.
  2. To Tiffshakes,
Yea, cause transformers is not a remake of anything right? Transformers 2 is gonna be the sequel, to a movie, that is not in the genre of "re-make trend", as you so call put it....right?
  3. point taken...but there is a difference when re-making a cartoon...and something like 21 jump street...which regardless of actual substance took itself quite seriously during its run. While I enjoyed Transformers, I can name more re-makes that have been bad that have been good...s and h....bewitched....fat albert.....miami vice....and the list can go on
  4. Transformers has almost 25 years of fans behind them..

21 jump street does not have numerous US and NonUS shows..
  5. Maybe this time when we see the new Camaro in Transformers we can actually buy it.

  6. Maybe when this movie hits the theaters we will actually be able to buy the new Camaro.

  7. I think his take on 21 JUMP STREET sounds great. STARSKY AND HUTCH was hilarious (sorry guys, but it was) and was, I think, the only way that show could be adapted and work these days. What I mean is, does the world need a serious take on 21 JUMP STREET on the big screen? No, it doesn't. So why not a comedic take on the series starring "some of the funniest people around", as Hill put it?

    I'm in!
  8. is he kidding me with this quote??

"I just think like I have to prove myself more in what I’m doing now, making comedies and stuff before I do the big action movie or something, you know?"

i think he is a bad actor. He's only know as the frumpy "funny" guy...and its getting somewhat old.

I think if he were in this movie...it would have killed it for me.

to be honest...i think he's kind of an annoying actor....but thats just me
  9. I think Hill is a horrible actor. Superbad was super awful and I'm really glad he will not be in the sequel to Transformers. If you know anything about the Transformers legacy making the first movie was very tricky but obviously was done well enough that the fans did not turn their backs on it.

Someone like Hill who is unproven and riding the fame of one chance flick that done well would be a very bad casting job for Transformers 2.

Long story short I'm glad he's not in the movie and realizes he needs to make his mark before taking the plunge.
  10. ok 1st Michal bay is a douch of a director.
2nd if you were a true transformers fan you woulda been disappionted in the fact that bumble bee was a new camero (as a marketing deal) instead of a beatle.
And last, Hill is just being nice by saying he doesnt deserve to be in the sequel, im sure he honstley doesnt want to be in a movie where stuff just blows up and there is crappy dialouge through out. If you havent notice every movie he has chosen has had much better writting then that of Bays transformers.
  11. Him in transformers 2 would have been really great....now with the 21 jumpstreet thing im not so sure i have seen the old tv show and it was ok not the best thing ever but im like most girls i just watched it for johnny...lol
  12. Everyone knows you could set your watch to Jonah Hill's comic timing. His remake of this awesome classic is predestined to be hilarious and sexy. I just hope he stars in it.
