When talking about upcoming films, most actors will tell you that they hope it makes waves, wows critics, or at least scores tons of money.
Brandon T. Jackson, meanwhile, just hopes “Tropic Thunder” doesn’t send him to Hell.
“Hopefully everybody doesn’t get too pissed off and we all can have a good time and laugh together,” he laughed.
What has Jackson anxious isn’t the film itself, but his co-star Robert Downey Jr. who portrays a white actor who becomes a black man for a movie. Not a white actor in black face, mind you, but a “black man,” Jackson insisted at the red carpet for “Iron Man.”
“Like people may say blackface, but no, Robert becomes a black man in the movie and the crazy thing about it, I’m not used to seeing Robert white,” he laughed. “I mean this is weird to me. I’m confused just like you. When I see him as ‘Iron Man,’ I love it because I’m used to seeing him as a black man.
“I thought he was Don Cheadle when I was acting with him!”
All of which begs the obvious question. Considering that Downey Jr. is an Oscar-nominated thesp, just who makes the better black man?
“He does,” Jackson said of Downey. “I mean you gotta understand, I’m a black man. I ‘m really black. I can’t peel this off. It makes me wanna cry that he can play a better black man than me!”
High praise indeed! Are you as excited for “Tropic Thunder” as I am? Sound off below.
