“Iron Man 2,” “The Avengers,” “Captain America,” and “Thor.” It’d be hard to pack more awesome in Marvel’s upcoming slate than is already there, especially now that they own their own properties and can cross mingle their franchises.
But what of the titles that aren’t there? Films like “Magneto,” “Spider-Man 4,” and “Ghost Rider 2.” Are they still in the pipeline?
The simple answer, of course, is that Marvel doesn’t own the rights to those films, and that they are going ahead as previously scheduled with other studios.
Or not.
Consider “Ghost Rider 2.” Although producer and former Marvel head honcho Avi Arad claimed last year that they were developing a sequel to the Nic Cage starrer about Johnny Blaze, a hero who is literally hell on wheels, that plan has either stalled or been completely abandoned, said star Eva Mendes, insisting to MTV News that she hasn’t so much as heard even the teensiest rumor about a big-screen follow-up.
Warts and all, it’s not like the first film wasn’t a big success at the box office, scoring over $115 million in its domestic run.
So what gives? Would you like to see a “Ghost Rider” sequel? If so, who would you want to see portrayed? Aqueduct? Zodiak? Blackout? Do you want Nic Cage and Mendes back? Or would you rather Blaze made a cameo in another of those upcoming films? Sound off below.

ghost rider was a horrible mess. it was just another example of how they didnt approach the material right or gave it any justice. i mean seriously they gave the film to the director of daredevil (another property he didnt do right). iron man was a comic to film that was done right. batman beigns was done right. the first 2 x-mens and spideys were done right. ghost rider was not and i think it was easily forgotten by audiences since it came out.

I can’t bring myself to sit through another disaster like Ghost Rider. Nick Cage made that movie an abortion. Now that Marvel seems to be back on track (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk) maybe they can pull off a better film for Flamehead, but why risk it. Give him a cameo in some other movie. Hell make him an honorary avenger (and yes, I know he was never an Avenger in the comics).Just for the love of god, don’t let Cage anywhere near it

ugh… I hated the first Ghost Rider..
plot was horrid, graphics was ok, actors were horrible in it also. they didn’t fit their characters.
Personally i am getting sick of marvel movies.
its like if the movie industry is starting to lack creative new ideas for movies.

the first ghost rider was seriously one of the worst movies i’ve seen in the last 2 years. Please don’t make a sequel.
May 10th, 2008 at 2:36 am
I agree the first Ghost Rider was out of line and wasn’t all there, but I’m a comic fanactic and I think Marvel is going to turn around with their perspective and control. If there going to make a second Ghost Rider, please let it have his enemy, vengeances in it.

Ghostrider was one of the worst movies I saw last year. I liked the main cast, but felt the story and cheesy special effects let them down.
May 10th, 2008 at 4:33 am
Hrm. I liked Ghostrider. But, then, I came into the comic late. What I would love to see I know would likely never happen. I would love to see Ghost Rider as done when Noble Kale was the host… but, trying to explain how Blackheart got ahold of Roxanne’s soul might be dicey. *smirk* Or how Johnny’s mother fits into it all.
But, truly, they don’t have to use Johnny Blaze or even Kale as the host - has anyone given THAT any thought? There’s others. *evil smile* Or, well, ONE other worth doing a movie about.

Ghost Rider was an ok film, compared to spiderman 3, it was great!
May 10th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Ghost Rider was an action light mess of a movie. However, the character is great and I loved the cast. Do Ghost Rider 2 but do it right this time. Actual action and fight sequences, more Eva skin and an intelligent plot.

I would like to see Ghost Rider cross paths with another superhero like Spider-man or Punisher. It would have to be a movie where the other superheroes franchise has taken off. GR is a pretty cool dude. How awesome would it be if GR rode his motorcycle into NYC in a Spider-man movie where they would battle each other then come to grips that they are on the same side, and then they defeat the villian. I’d pay to see that.

Ghost Rider could have been a kick-ass, scary, supernatural-superhero movie, but instead it was…well…crappy. The dialog was awful, the plot was boring and poorly thought out, and the acting by Nic Cage and Eva Mendez was awful. Throughout most of the movie I found myself wishing that they’d just kept Matt Long as Johnny Blaze (the actor who played the younger version of Nic Cage’s character), as he was one of the few actors in this film who managed to turn in a competent performance. The beginning of this movie wasn’t actually that bad. The dialog was corny and the premise was hokey, but the actors kinda-sorta made it work (emphasis on the “kinda-sorta”). Matt Long played Johnny Balze believably and Peter Fonda was great as Mephistopheles, which is impressive given the (crappy) material that they’re given to work with. The scene between the two of them, where Johnny first makes the deal to become hell’s bounty hunter, so long as Mephistopheles agree’s to save Johnny’s father’s life, was strangely written (Johnny, more or less, accidentally signed the Contract to sell his soul) and was corny as all hell, but it got it’s point across.
Then we flash forward to the future, where Nic Cage, as modern-day Johnny, makes his first appearance. It’s here where the biggest problems of this film come to the surface.
One scene stands out in my head as a perfect demonstration of one of this flicks biggest misfires: Nic Cage’s portrayal of Johnny Blaze. The scene starts out with Johnny sitting in his tour-bus (he’s become a famous stunt-motorcyclist), with a depressed and reflective look on his face. A member of his pit crew (or whatever they’re suppose to be) is lecturing him about his reckless behavior during his stunts. He makes a reference to Johnny’s latest stunt, where he landed on his head and nearly broke his neck. The crewman makes a reference to Johnny’s super-natural luck, “Luck don’t cover it JB, you got an angel looking after you.” As the crewman walks away Johnny Looks out the window and says “Yeah maybe…maybe it was somethin’ else..” Just then lightning flashes outside of the tourbus, and in Johnny’s reflection in the window we, for a split second, see a skull in place of Johnny’s face. Then, Johnny turns back around to his crew mates….and starts eating Jellybeans. And making Jokes. And acting all-around goofy. What happened to the hot-headed, angst-ridden, conflicted Johnny Blaze that Matt Long played? Nic Cage should have turned in a dark, haunting performance as Johnny Blaze but instead played him as a barely conflicted, goofy country bumpkin who quickly begins to enjoy his “curse” of turning into hell’s bounty hunter when the sun goes down. It was impossible for me believe that Matt Long and Nic Cage were playing the same character. Add Eva Mendez’s awful “Roxanne” character into the mix, and this movie is almost unbearable right from the get-go. Now, this isn’t really the actors faults…the script is terrible. Johnny was written to be a goofy hic and Roxanne was written to be the stereotypical love-interest/old flame.
I’d have to say that the worst part about Ghost Rider isn’t the awful dialog, or the poorly written characters, the poorly executed premise, or even the “a little bit too realistic” look that the filmmakers gave to Ghost Rider, it was how incredibly awesome this movie COULD have been. “A young stuntman sells his soul to the devil, agreeing to become hell’s bounty-hunter in exchange for the Devil saving the life of his cancer-ridden father.” Such an amazingly scary, awesome, supernatural thriller could have come out of this premise, but instead a goofy, hokey, and somewhat boring comic book movie was made. The only good part about the entire film aside from Matt Long and Peter Fonda was Sam Elliot, who was kinda cool as the care-taker, but even he had a tough time making his ridiculous dialog work. And the scene where he gets to shine the most, as the “previous” ghost rider, seems out of place and unnecessary.
So, to sum it all up: Ghost Rider is an awful movie. I could keep going about the many things that movie got utterly wrong, but my fingers are getting tired. Just save yourself the time and money and DO NOT watch Ghost Rider. Ever.

Aaron,
The phrase “hit the nail on the head” was invented for your last post.
Bravo!
And to the guy who said it was better than Spiderman 3… give me a friggin break! I just don’t understand all the Spidey 3 hate. I loved it personally, I know it wasn’t perfect, but to say it was worse than GHOST RIDER?!?!? Oh boy… not even CLOSE!!!

Why thank you Vortex, and for serious, better than Sider-Man 3? HAH. No. Sidey 3 was over crowded, for sure, and because of that none of the plot lines really reached their full potential, but it was a fun, enjoyable flick none the less. Ghost Rider, on the other hand is awful. In fact, everyone SHOULD by copies of Ghost Rider, lots and lots of them. This way, we can all destroy them, in hopes that no one will ever have to watch that god-awful excuse for a movie ever again.

I tried posting this before, but for some reason, it’s not showing up, so here I go again: Why thank you Vortex, and for serious, better than Sider-Man 3? HAH. Oh, and part of my review of GR got deleted somehow, here’s the missing part:
Another big problem with this film is that once the action gets going, there really isn’t any action at all. Nic Cage transforms into Ghost Rider, rides around, chases some punks, scares the crap out of them, then rides away. Then later, Nic Cage transforms into Ghost Rider, rides around, chases away some demons, and then rides away….Seeing a pattern here? Then, in the films big final fight sequence, Ghost Rider destroys Mephistopheles’s son Blackheart by….looking into his eyes. Sure, Ghost Rider has some sort of “super vision” that sends evil souls to hell when he looks into there eyes…but that’s it. He barely fights Blackheart, and then just kinda walks up to him, looks into his eyes, and that’s that…Ghost Rider wins, movie ends, credits roll, and audiences across the nation get in line to get their money back. And the worst part about these lame fight sequences? Ghost rider only uses his awesome spikey chain once. But it’s not to lay waste to a demon, he uses it as a lasso, to create a tornado-like whirl-wind to vanquish some sort of wind demon (or something. Though one would think that a whir-wind would just make a wind-demon stronger…but whatever).

Let me start of by saying the idea of Ghost Rider is awesome. However like some ideas the follow through just isn’t there. It’s been shown in the past that the best super hero movies are ones played by almost unknown actors. Before Spiderman no one knew who Tobey Maguire was and his acting started a great trend for super hero movies. The Punisher is another example, Tom Jane made you feel that role. I think the first mistake was using Nick Cage as Johnny Blaze. In every movie I’ve ever seen him in Nick Cage plays the same character over and over. I’m pretty sure if he was the Ghost Rider in Gone in sixty seconds I wouldn’t have noticed the difference. This movie was a classic example of having to dumb yourself down in order to enjoy it. However there is hope, if the Incredible Hulk can be redone (Which really sucked)then so can Ghost Rider. If there is any chance the Producers are reading this my best suggestion would be…. Fire everyone and start from scratch. Then maybe there will be some hope for Ghost Rider.

I mostly agree with aaron. But i have to put emphasis on one part. COULD HAVE BEEN. Why, because sequels can sometimes be apologies. If you look at interviews with the director he goes on to say how he would like a darker sequel with more action and a darker johnny blaze. This first movie was sub-par at best, but that’s no reason that a sequel or even trilogy couldn’t be a truly worth while project. on a different note i will say that i disagree with one thing… the worst thing in the movie was probably the music. As soon as marvel/sony realizes that just because you can make a subtle tie in to nostalgia of the old west doesn’t mean you should. Both ghost rider and punisher had their mood destroy by (among other things) “old west” trumpet and “showdown at noon” cliche’s. But back to the point. A sequel (done right) is not only worth while, but kind of owed to the fans.

Although the movie was not as good as it could have been, it was pretty faithful to the source material and was pretty damn good considering it was made as a kid friendly movie. Whoever said said the special effects were cheesy is insane, if you want to see cheesy effects then look at the FF’s human torch. Ghost Riders effects were awesome, the eyecandy alone made the movie worthwhile for me. It made good money and a sequel should definately be made!!!

The rest of you need to get over yourselves, whether it was a bad movie or not if the producers make a sequel to Ghost Rider, DONT WATCH IT!!
May 27th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Yes. Bring the movie on, Ghost Rider 2. Please bring back Peter Fonda as Mephisto, Nic as Johnny a.k.a. Ghost Rider, Blaze, and please bring back that fineee EVA MENDES!!! Thats all I got to say.

I saw the extended version of Ghostrider, which is very good. The plot is smoother, and the western cowboy-biker feel meshes well. The soundtrack is awsome, has a great cast, and the digital effects were pretty cool too. I was never a Cage fan until I saw this film either. The first transformation scene from Blaze to GR had incredible acting. It was great to watch his face burn and Cage go into explosive screaming madness. He also brought a bit of comedy to a dark character. GR is a antihero, not an innocent $~*~%. Cage’s Blaze is someone that can be related to by many. Give GhostRider the chance it deserves. Make the sequel.

they gotta make another ghost rider movie mephesto is his biggest enemy. they can’t end it with him fighting the weird kid from american beauty…..and besides i would take another crap fest from ghostrider before a captain america movie.
May 28th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
just like what someone else said…if you don’t like the movie don’t go to watch it, and don’t ruin it for the people who do want to see it.
personally ghost rider is one of my favorite movies, solely because the graphics were really cool and detailed (especially the spirits in san venganza), and also because wes bentley looks fine as hell (oh wow i just punned…i didn’t mean it) playing blackheart in his human form.
i think nic, eva, and wes all did remarkably well. and mephesto was one of the best actors
…all in all, they’d damnn well better come out with a GR2
