When MTV News revealed that "Daily Show" funnyman Rob Corddry was set to play White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer in Oliver Stone's "W," the easy joke was that it was an easy transition for someone used to delivering fake news. He would be a natural, we thought.
But don't laugh. That's REALLY why Corddry is joining the picture.
"My time on 'The Daily Show' coincided with his time as Press Secretary. I ate, drank, and slept Ari Fleischer for four years, so I feel like I know the guy pretty well," Corddry recently confessed. "So that's why I guess I didn't run away in terror."
"But that being said," he added, a sheepish smile across his face. "I'm pretty terrified."
He might have good reason, considering the movie is bound to piss off a large group of people no matter what angle it takes, since it'll either be seen as too harsh or not harsh enough. Indeed, talking about the film with his "What Happens in Vegas" co-star Ashton Kutcher, Corddry seemed reticent to provide many details on the project beyond the obvious. But as for that persistent question of it being too soon for a movie with perspective...
"Can't we all agree that it's been a nightmare?" Kutcher chimed in. "Don't we know it's been a nightmare? I think it's pretty fair to say, like, he's going down as not having done a very good job."
"Yeah," added Corddry. "I think we're ready for one a year. From now on we'll have one Bush movie a year [with] a different perspective."
But how is Bush portrayed in the film? A bubbling frat boy? A Machiavellian mastermind? Somewhere in between?
"He comes off like Lincoln!" Kutcher joked. "He's the great emancipator of Iraq!"
"They greet him as a liberator," Corddry chuckled.
Liberate this. Are you as excited for this movie as I am? Think Corddry makes a good Ari Fleischer? Sound off below and then help us cast the rest of the roles over here.
