Like Edward Cullen eyeballing a deer in the middle of the woods, you can be forgiven if you drool a bit while looking at the first official “Twilight” poster. It’s an MTV exclusive, it’s a thing of beauty, and it was photographed by 18-year-old wunderkind Joey Lawrence.
You can read our interview with Joey over on the MTV Movies page, but here’s an extra-juicy bit of news: Lawrence has signed on to shoot all the posters for “Twilight.” When I was on the set recently, virtually everyone I spoke with brought up plans for sequels, and if those dreams come true Joey would likely return as well. “Yeah,” he told us recently, swinging by our Santa Monica offices. “I’ll be doing all the next movies.”
Lawrence knew that the first poster had to focus on the key relationship of Edward and Bella, and said he’d like to keep the subsequent images focused on the characters and their couplings.
“I think they’ll probably be keeping the mood pretty dark and edgy still,” he said of his plan. “I’ve read the first script, and I know what happens in the next books just from talking to the actors, so the mood might change a little bit, but the style will stay the same.”
Lawrence also revealed that he’s been meeting with “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke, so that they can synchronize their overall plan.
“I think it’s going to be interesting with her,” insisted Lawrence, who hopes to become a director himself someday. “When I read the script, I realized this is not her kind of movie. Because she’s done like ‘Lords of Dogtown’ and ‘Thirteen,’ so when I read the script I was kind of like, ‘That’s a vampire movie,’ but then to find out that she was doing something with it, I think it’s going to be different than just a normal kind of teenage love story. I think it might be interesting to see.”

I love it! Kristen looks so bella-ish. I don’t know if its just because of the contrast between her and Rob, but to me she looks… warm and soft. Like bella is always described. And I love how Edwards eyes look. Good job Joey!

The poster is great. However, I do believe Bella looks a tad plastic, as well, especially in comparison to her hand. Edward could be in the picture more, but I like how it’s trying to show you that this story is mainly focused around Bella and how it is told from Bella’s perspective. I do like the poster you ended up with, however. I think it’s just how distatnt Edward appears and the fact that Bella looks a tad fake bothers me. Amazing, still. I can’t wait for the film!

It’s alright. I love Edward in the poster. He looks perfect, but Bella just doesn’t look quite right. I’m a huge fan of the book, and I’m sure the movie will be great reguardless of what the poster looks like anyways.

To be honest, at first, I really hated the idea of Rob as Edward but after seeing the trailer and this poster… Well that thought went right out the window. As for Bella it was the exact opposite. The photo looks amazing though. It’s just that Kristen’s hand kind of unbalances the whole thing. But oh well, it looks awesome anyways!

I totally agree with Olivia (see her comment :D) in her reaction to the poster. When I saw this yesterday, I had a stronger response than I ever thought I could. The poster is amazing in just capturing the relationship between Bella and Edward, as well as their own inner turmoil.

i think it’s a good poster but..
if i were to do it i would’ve done it differently
i wouldve put them like back to back kind of, with robert looking angry and bella looking confused and a little frightened, since that’s how the story starts out.
or them looking at each other like that.
but that’s just how i would do it ahha

The poster looks great! I do agree though that it’s a little bit… empty. It has Bella and Edward in it, but that’s just about it. It’s also way too photoshopped; their angles aren’t right, and I don’t really like their poses either. But it’s great to have it released anyway…
Can’t wait for more Twilight info!! So excited!

I really like the picture, but I think that Edward Cullen’s eyes are look a bit too reddish, which makes him look like he hunts humans. All in all, i think the poster is great! Keep making more!!! I’m going to hang them all over my room!!! I love how the poster shows how Bella isn’t afraid of being close with Edward even though there is a chance that he can slip. Love the poster!!

omg. iv read all i could find to read by Stephenie Meyer. i just love her writting. And i think its amazing that my favorite books are turning into movies.
i cannot wait till december 12th!!!!
*everyone tells me tht im going to be diapointed in the movie because of how much i love the books. but from looking at all this footage and seeing all the publicity its getting i really believe im going to be as much in love with the movie as in the books.

I agree with heather..not wat i expected but it doesn’t look bad. it looks good, we all have different ideas on the characters edward/bella. i know my edward/bella don’t look nothing like the ones in the movie..but i can’t wait to see it.

ok 1st i still love the picture nomatter what!!!
how ever yes there are some things to improve on
like the position of both characters
it seems to fake and i dont know maybe they should fit more tobether like two puzzle pieces with their hands touching
edward (everyone loves him)but he needs to be more in the picture at a different angle so that you can see his face more
his eyes look AMAZING
and Bella does good in the shadow only because thats what she thinks more of herself
they should be more involved in with each other
i dont know cant ezplain but maybe looking towards eachother not so much as eye contact so it looks intence but more mystery glances in each others direction
i dont know what else but im sure you guys have tons of new great ideas from all the other comments so once again LOVE IT!

The mood/atmosphere is right, but it looks a bit too photo-shopped for me. I mean, Rob and Kristen look amazing and I love the contrast between vamp and human, that was very well done. I would just prefer their positions a bit more… comfortable? Like a picture of the two of them together, not separate and then photoshopped together. Kristen’s hand’s position makes it seem like she’s leaning against him, but Rob’s head position makes it seem like he’s REALLY towering over her, and it all looks awkward to me. But other than position, I like it. Again, color and lighting are amazing.
And is it just me, or does Kristen look like Emma Watson (Hermione from Harry Potter) here?

The angling is way off and Joey forgot the all important rule of thirds in photography. Woops. It’s good and Joey’s good but it could’ve been a bit better.
Btw Rpattz does not need to look like he’s wearing lipstick!

I realllllly like this poster. Rob has the scary/sexy look Meyer gives him in the book and Kristen looks so serene and beautiful. But her hand looks kinda odd…like it isn’t hers or something since it isn’t glowing like her face is. …I really don’t think they could have made Edward look more protective.

I really love Bella, she’s amazing in the picture. But Edward seems… a little to shadey (sp) Maybe it’d be better if he were also looking at the camera, out at us, with a look of contempt or protectiveness. It’d give us a better shot of his eyes. Also, maybe having him closer to her with his strein of resistence to her blood might work really good as well, though blood doesn’t need to be pictured. I really appreciate the effort though! Keep up the great work, it really is a lovely poster.

Those two are exactly what I pictured for Edward and Bella, but I feel like Bella is too focused on something other than him. In the books, she’s so fixated and so aware of him, it’s unreal, and in this image, she seems a bit detached. Beautiful image, definitely, but it doesn’t portray their relationship, in my opinion.

I like it but I think he should be a bit more pale and more beautiful. I know that he is suposse to look scary, but he kinda scares me a bit. but, all in all I like it. I actually don’t think Robert was THAT good for playing Edward,(I always pictured him more beautiful and attractive…or thats what the book read) but that’s not really the photographers fault. Good job though.

I really don’t like it, because I think Edward is supposed to be more dazzling than creepy and overprotective, I like Bella’s smile but Bella Is supposed to be more clumsy and blushing, and the air brushing is too much, look at her hand and her face they don’t match, and Edwards eyes are golden not orange, all the pics of Edward and Bella that you posted is creepy and not romantic, Edward is not supposed to look like a vampire he is supposed to look dazzling and breathtaking, they look like they’re from 2 different photos, people do manipulations better.

It looks good, but kind of off, like it was photoshoped together instead of as a picture just taken like that. I don’t know… I wanted something grittier and more realistic for Twilight. And I want to see Edward’s hair!
