‘Twilight’ Poster Photographer To Continue Working On Franchise

Like Edward Cullen eyeballing a deer in the middle of the woods, you can be forgiven if you drool a bit while looking at the first official “Twilight” poster. It’s an MTV exclusive, it’s a thing of beauty, and it was photographed by 18-year-old wunderkind Joey Lawrence.

You can read our interview with Joey over on the MTV Movies page, but here’s an extra-juicy bit of news: Lawrence has signed on to shoot all the posters for “Twilight.” When I was on the set recently, virtually everyone I spoke with brought up plans for sequels, and if those dreams come true Joey would likely return as well. (Click the poster for the high-rez version!)

“Yeah,” he told us recently, swinging by our Santa Monica offices. “I’ll be doing all the next movies.”

Lawrence knew that the first poster had to focus on the key relationship of Edward and Bella, and said he’d like to keep the subsequent images focused on the characters and their couplings.

“I think they’ll probably be keeping the mood pretty dark and edgy still,” he said of his plan. “I’ve read the first script, and I know what happens in the next books just from talking to the actors, so the mood might change a little bit, but the style will stay the same.”

Lawrence also revealed that he’s been meeting with “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke, so that they can synchronize their overall plan.

“I think it’s going to be interesting with her,” insisted Lawrence, who hopes to become a director himself someday. “When I read the script, I realized this is not her kind of movie. Because she’s done like ‘Lords of Dogtown’ and ‘Thirteen,’ so when I read the script I was kind of like, ‘That’s a vampire movie,’ but then to find out that she was doing something with it, I think it’s going to be different than just a normal kind of teenage love story. I think it might be interesting to see.”

We’d expect nothing less, right Twilighters? I want to read the thoughts of each and every one of you (and believe me, we all do!), so here’s your TT question of the week: Is the poster, better, worse, or exactly as you imagined? What, if anything, would you have done differently than Joey?

  1. Hi, this poster is awsome...
but, I don't know it isn't what I imagine. It's an amazing work, and both of the characters are beautiful the shot was taken perfectly but, (there always a but) it isn't what the book portraits. In my way of reading twilight in this case not new moon and eclipse. The are forbidden to each other but, the want each other so much there are willing to break the rules which they do. And in this pic I see Bella for some reason WANTING Edward not having him. And he is like not looking for her instead he is wishin he wasn't there and her face is too much and his isn't. So equal love (in twilight) for equal lovers.
But away from my comment the poster is perfect for people who haven't read twilight.
  2. Well, the poster says it all!
    it's amazing!

Like everyone that read the Twilight Series, I can't wait for this movie to come!

It's a pity that probably, the international release will be a little later that the US release... I'll wait anxiously to see the movie here in Brazil! =D

    Tks MTV!
  3. I like it. But I wish it had more interaction/connection between Edward and Bella. They like they were....photoshopped together. Separate. It looks great, but I would've like a more real looking poster... I dunno.
  4. I think it looks awesome :'D
can't wait for future posters :]
  5. This is absolutely wonderful. Joey has done wonderfully with this, and THANK YOU Larry for all the up-to-date reports you have given us. We love you!
  6. I think my expectations were too high. I still like it a lot. Of course Robert looks AMAZING and love Kristen's hair!
  7. i do wish they show more and not just Bella and Edward(but it doesnt really bother me...i like to look at edward^-^ ) like the background, Fork sceneries maybe...and the rest of the Cullens ..or something
  8. I LOVE YOU LARRY!
    :DD
    great poster!
  9. It's Awesome! I love it, i love how it kinda has a classic look almost storybook like which is how i pictured it:) I love the distinction in Edward's eyes just to show people who haven't read the books that there is something different about him;) Kristen looks gorgeous, i just love the classy look to it, great job!!!
  10. This wasn't how I pictured it but it's definitely good. Great Job! I hope to one day be a photographer :P
  11. Amazing. I love Edward's eyes :)
    Kristen looks amazing! :)
    I LOVE ITTTTTTT.
  12. I'm one of the few male Twilight fans, and I am VERY passionate about my Twilight. I have been overly impressed with EVERYTHING so far...and then today, i've been let down. This poster is very amature looking. If you look around many many fans have created posters that look about a thousand times better.

Summit should do like Sony and have a poster contest.

All and all I'm disappointed with the poster but I don't want to bash the photographer or mtv. I'm very greatful for everything. Just not happy with the poster.
  13. Its perfect *_*
  14. I've read Twilight at least 10 times, front to back. I've memorized the best parts, how Edward looks, how EVERY ONE of the cullens looks, and I REALLY can't believe how ugly the made Edward look, isn't it suposed to be a cute pic of Edward and Bella looking into eachothers eyes? Something actually romantic!? I'd think so. I personally think they did a TERRIBLE job. I expected more from my favourite books' movie. And my Twilight loving friends agree.
    --Alyssa
  15. I love this poster and i can't wait until he does the ones for new moon and eclipse. They'll be as awesome as this one!
  16. OMGSH!!! so perfect! he looks so protective...and she looks like she would just do anything for him, so yeah. pretty perfect...freakin amazing!!!!!! I LOVE IT! Great job! They both look so perfect...just as I imagined :)
  17. ABSOLUTELY perfect, a dream come true, THANK YOU JOEY! you kept the edginess these books require
  18. i think this poster is perfect!!!!!!! its got the dark sexy edge that twilight is all about, it makes me even more syked for the movie only 7 months and 6 days soooooooooooooooooooo cant wait
  19. I agree with Alyssa T.
    Hey Alyssa it's Mer! lol
They screwed this up and Molly and I will be writting nasty hate letters! Alyssa wanna join?
  20. movie poster? hm...it's okay I suppose. I will practically love anything to do with twilight anyways, but if I'm being honest, I think it's a bit awkward to the eyes...and it feels really photo shopped to me for some reason. but anyway, I'm not the photographer, I'm sure he knows what he's doing, and overall I think I could grow to love it.
  21. How brilliant, ever since i heard the movie was being made i was horribly afraid of being disappointed, and even though it will never be completely what the books are, I love the style and actors chosen for this movie and feel that it may live up to the fan's (painfully high) expectations. His amber eyes are just how i imagined, Smashing job!
  22. I like it and all but i think it could have been a bit better... and i think they should either be gazing into each others eyes or both gazing out, Instead of him just gazing off, it may just be me but it seems unfocused. Thank you for showing us and i cant wait for more!
  23. Hey Alyssa T! ahaha
    I know you!
Anyways i agree with her. It's horrible. How could they do that to the best movie ever created.
Molly and I will be writting hate mail. Alyssa, wanna join?
  24. First I have to say thank you Larry for all your great work. Now on to the point of the post, this Twilight poster leaves me very disappointed. I think it’s great that someone young is given the chance to show their creativity, but I have seen many fan made posters which are 100 times better than this. There should be a contest to have the fans make the poster, it would yield better results.
  25. hmm, edward dosnt like like edward, and my freind doesnt like it, so ya..lol
  26. I like it...but i think it could be much better.
They aren't looking at each other, and i think that is pretty crucial. Just to get the full effect of their relationship. But the lighting is AMAZING. He really does look supernatural.
  27. I like the poster. I think I would have prefered Edward/Rob looking at us with the same "you-get-her-over-my-undead-body" expression as in the recent photo of the whole cast. But in any case, it's a great poster. I can't wait to see what else Joey's got in store for us!
  28. wow. i am pretty sure that one dday, when this is hanging outside, a non- twilight fan will seriously fall in love with TWILIGHT.

really great. but the only part that nags me, and i am only saying this because it really does nag me, is that edward does not look at bella lovingly. all i have been seeing is his intensity, and sure, it is pretty good, but i dont see his LOVE.
  29. Congratulations Summit Entertainment for ruining the best book ever!
Hey Alyssa! Let's write hate mail together. Go call Molly!
  30. OMG!!!!!! I JUST AQBOUT DIED...... ROBERT LOOKS GORGOEUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  31. I have my doubts about the movie...but let me just say that this poster looks PERFECT.

Kristen looks beautiful and all you have to do is take one look at Edward to know he's something that isn't exactly human.

And you say this kid is only 18? Wow!
  32. ITS PERFECT!!!

    I love it!
I love how Edward is kind of above Bella to show protection. The facial expressions and the lighting is just PERFECT! Great job Joey! I can't wait to see the poster for New Moon!!

Thank you Larry! Twilight Tuesdays are my saving grace. :-)
  33. ALYSSA IS RIGHT!!!!!!
  34. I pictured the poster differently. This one is still really cool though.
The way i pictured it was like this; Edward offering you the red apple.
    good? good?
    Is it not perfect?
  35. I didn't imagine the movie poster like this at all, but I really do love it! I think that it's simply beautiful and it really is perfect.
  36. this looks so awesome.
edward is gorgeous, robert pattinson is going to be so amazing in this role.
and kristen is going to be a perfect bella.
and this poster is just so good.
    i can't wait, why can't december come sooner? :(
  37. This poster shows the protective side of Edward. But it doesn't show how much love he has for Bella. I say its okay, but i think the poster could show how much he really cares about her, with his "crooked smile". I know you can't show that emotion in one poster, but there can be another one.
  38. Oh and I'd like to add something, although there's nothing wrong with this poster...

I always thought that it would be really cool if one of the posters was simply the cover of the Twilight book. You know the image of the hands holding the apple? It's a very easily recognisable image in my opinion, not to mentic iconic and powerful.

Would be cool to just go to the movies and see that poster on a wall-simply a date of the movies release at the bottom.
  39. yeah...i don't love it. no offense to joey, but... i am dissapointed. has this guy read the books? cause it doesn't sound like it.

i really hope they don't use this. sorry. it's just so... awkward.
  40. Never really thought about a poster, but I must admit I do like this one. I think Robert and Kristen look really great, but it should have shown a little more of Robert's face. But it does come across in the shot how protective Edward is of Bella.
  41. As for what I like or dislike about it: I would have definitely liked Edward looking at us and Bella looking at Edward. Although we can see one of his eyes and sense the danger he possesses, I thought it would have been a lot better if he was staring us down - almost like a warning; like he warns Bella throughout the whole entire series. And Bella should be staring up at him - the way she's always admiring him. It sends out more of the story that way, I think. But I like it. :)
  42. Oh, it looks beautiful! I love it. The eyes on Robert are amazing. He really does look the part and is very handsome in the picture. Kristen looks exactly how I imagined Bella, originally, when I read it the first time and did not see all the 'Dream Casts'. haha The movie poster is a perfect representation of the movie and the story behind it.
  43. Tbh, I don't really like it. It looks like someone was bored and decided to photoshop something. I mean, it looks awesome but... I don't know. I don't think it's right. And Edward looks like he's eyeing something on the ground.
    "Yummy."
  44. It's really great! If I could change one thing though I think I would have Edward giving us his super sexy intense stare, but otherwise it's great. =]
Oh, and I do believe Mr. Lawrence should pick up the books and read them himself =]

    Also, love you Larry!
  45. I really like how it's protective-just like Edward.
    Love the eyes.
  46. I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOVE IT! Joey did a nice job :)

---However.. I think I would angle Edward down a little more so it looked like he wasnt hanging from the ceiling or something.. and maybe have the forest behind it or something. But other than that, BRILLIANT, I love the mood and the focus of the poster, because this is who its all about. Bella and Edward. I love their expressions too.. totally them. Love it.
  47. I love how you can see the brilliant topaz eyes!
  48. I love it. but I probably would've only changed Edward face, turn it more facing 'us' a little bit.

but other then that, I think it's perfect.
  49. It is better than I hoped for! This poster shows the intensity and the passion that the two of them share. There are no words to describe it. It's amazing!!
  50. i would write a quick note saying how wonderful it looks... however i am on the floor and waking up groggy from my faint and cannot type.
