‘Twilight’ Poster Photographer To Continue Working On Franchise

Like Edward Cullen eyeballing a deer in the middle of the woods, you can be forgiven if you drool a bit while looking at the first official “Twilight” poster. It’s an MTV exclusive, it’s a thing of beauty, and it was photographed by 18-year-old wunderkind Joey Lawrence.

You can read our interview with Joey over on the MTV Movies page, but here’s an extra-juicy bit of news: Lawrence has signed on to shoot all the posters for “Twilight.” When I was on the set recently, virtually everyone I spoke with brought up plans for sequels, and if those dreams come true Joey would likely return as well. (Click the poster for the high-rez version!)

“Yeah,” he told us recently, swinging by our Santa Monica offices. “I’ll be doing all the next movies.”

Lawrence knew that the first poster had to focus on the key relationship of Edward and Bella, and said he’d like to keep the subsequent images focused on the characters and their couplings.

“I think they’ll probably be keeping the mood pretty dark and edgy still,” he said of his plan. “I’ve read the first script, and I know what happens in the next books just from talking to the actors, so the mood might change a little bit, but the style will stay the same.”

Lawrence also revealed that he’s been meeting with “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke, so that they can synchronize their overall plan.

“I think it’s going to be interesting with her,” insisted Lawrence, who hopes to become a director himself someday. “When I read the script, I realized this is not her kind of movie. Because she’s done like ‘Lords of Dogtown’ and ‘Thirteen,’ so when I read the script I was kind of like, ‘That’s a vampire movie,’ but then to find out that she was doing something with it, I think it’s going to be different than just a normal kind of teenage love story. I think it might be interesting to see.”

We’d expect nothing less, right Twilighters? I want to read the thoughts of each and every one of you (and believe me, we all do!), so here’s your TT question of the week: Is the poster, better, worse, or exactly as you imagined? What, if anything, would you have done differently than Joey?

  1. I would've loved it even more if his eyes were more golden.
    Anyohhwho, it's awesomeee! :D
  2. This is exactly the way I imagined it.
I would have liked it if Edward was looking at Bella, but I know in the first book, the whole theme is Edward trying to control himself. I can really see the concentration on his face. And the eyes were nicley done.
Well done, I cant wait to see other Twilight posters from this photographer.
    Cant wait 12.12.08!!!
  3. the poster is ok i guess but it looks kind of awkward it's like edward is coming down to sort of attack bella good theme and photograhphy weird steup and angle
  4. Absolutely amazing.
I imagined the poster to this same extent.
    Robert looks so..Edward-y haha.
I'm fascinated by his eyes, which is the type of reaction I would expect, so it seems perfect!
I'm trusting in Catherine to do these books justice, and so far, it seems as if she's not going to fail.
Kristen looks like a Bella, I must say.
I believe the chemistry between Stewart and Pattinson is simply breath-taking, and that's exactly how it should be.
And the shadowing is really nice.
Fans really do need to stop doubting the cast and let them make the movie, instead of judging the movie ahead of time.
It's definitely gonna be a vamptastic movie!
    I'm even more excited now!
    :)
  5. The poster is absolutly fabulous, the only thing i would have done differently would be that i would have had them looking into each others eyes not away from each other

Anyway i looks fabb the way it is
  6. i love the mood and Edwards posture and attitude, but Bella isn't hitting for me. maybe it's the way she's holding her mouth, i don't know. I would like to see her more burried in his chest, maybe in a bear hug, more clingy. she looks a little fake.
  7. I've been a fan of the Twilight novel since it came out. And I must say, I don't think they picked the right Edward or Bella to portray the roles.
  8. That's absolutely perfect..! Exactly the same image I had in my mind after read the book. The way those pic taken, only Bella figure focused on the camera, already symbolized that the story of Twilight is a Bella's side. And Edward figure really looks like a cold vampire. Cooll..!

Congratulation for the photographer! It's a great picture. I guess he really understand the essence story of Twilight.
  9. W-O-W! TOTALLY AMAZING !
They both look very good and i don't know why i get this feeling but when i look at this photo i feel like they are right next to me! GORGEOUS!
  10. I Dont like it...sorry. It looks to fake and too photoshopped. IDk i think it can be better.
    Sorry.
    Cant wait for the movie!
  11. WOW. Kristen looks amazing in this pic... Robert looks FREAKY, in a HOTT sort of way. This gives me chills.. I cant wait for the movie :D
  12. This is not a threat merely a warning. To all the actors who think they can do this movie, good luck. You will need you may think your awesome at what you do but be wrned this is the Twilighters book and your now stepping on our turf so watch out. Because vampires may look scary but wait till you see what the twilighters can become.

Dedicated to all the twilighters of the world!
  13. I absolutely love it! I love everything for the book and movie. But i must agree Kristian's hand and face have their differences in tone. Still i love the Twilight Series more than any series or book i have ever read or ever will read!!!!!!!!!!
  14. i don't like how it focuses on bella, but edwrds eyes are amazing...
  15. OMG!!!! I've only been waiting for this movie for ever. I love this poster, you can feel the connection between them. I love it!!!!

    Go Team Emmett
  16. omg!!i love the picture it looks so awesome...i want to see all of them..!edward and bella look cutre together... :)
  17. oh son!
so stunned cant thnk of wht to say
i really like how robert is pulling off the whole protector thing im in love with this pic
    great job
  18. I love the poster and i am so excited to see the movie. I wish it was coming out sooner.
  19. i think the poster is ok..but can you make bella a little bit prettier..she looks some what like a hobo..no effence..gotta keep it up with edward :]
  20. i have to say that this poster is amazing! i literally started hyperventilating when i saw it! i even started hyperventilating when i saw the Twilight trailer! it is AWESOME! i really cannot wait for this movie to come out! and Breaking Dawn! wow! i am like hyperventilating right now as i type! this is an amazing book and think that they will do an amazing job with the movie!
  21. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
iam a HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! fan of Twilight and I Love the poster the trailer and especialy the book
    WOW
  22. I love how there is light emmitting from edward... and its reflecting off bellas cheek. >.
  23. I'm actually very excited for this movie to come out. I'm a Twilight obsessive...i've read the whole series ATLEAST 5 times. Me and my friends are still a little scared to see if the movie will be like the book. Like Harry Potter the movie was very different from the books.

i haven't decided if i will complain if the movie isnt like the book. I'm still VERY excited to see it though.
The teaser trailer kind of knocked me off my feet.
  24. Amazing poster. Love it. Rob is just right. And so is Kristen.

Go Rob, make the British proud!
  25. wow. this is absolutely perfect!
i think it depticts their characters and their relationship perfectly. their faces have the pefect expression...and edward's eyes are incredible! it looks so natural, like they were holding each other and bella happened to look this way when a picture was snapped. it looks like they could stay in that position forever.

i love it. it's perfect. i can't wait for the movie!
  26. Love It! I just dont think that it captures the one thing that We all drool over, EDWARD AND BELLAS LOVE. They should be looking in eachothers eyes! And also, Robert does have a top lip, so show it, and Dont make bella look so daydreamish. She should be very aware that "edward" is with her. That is her only wish. Besides those things, I think it rocks.
  27. I think the poster is pretty good, I don't like the angle Kristin's at but otherwise it's Alright.
I cannot wait for the moment, I love The dude they picked for Edward. He's gorgeous.
    -Carrie
  28. Awesome pic! They are both gorgeous, but there are some negative aspects bout this poster, such as Edward's angle, and they are not staring at eachother, it would be much more intense if they were staring at eachother, but 'sides that, i think its really cute :)
[Sowy for the english, im from Portugal O;]]
  29. This poster is PERFECT!!!!!! I CANT IMAGINE IT AND BETER!!!!!I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE TO COME OUT AND I SAY THEY SHOULD KEEP THE PHOTOGRAPHER, HE TOOK THE BEST PIC. AND I SHOWED IT TO MY FRIEND AND SAYS SHE REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO SEE IT BUT AFTER THE POSTER SHE IS COUNTING THE DAYS TO SEE IT!!!!!I LOVE TWILIGHT, AND HARRY POTER HAS NO CHANCE TO BEAT TWILIGHTS RECORDS THAT ARE GOING TO BE THE BEST OF BEST!!!!
  30. WoW
    that is just amazing
iv'e read each book 4 times
it looks like Edwards going to jump out of the poster holding Bella delicately in his arms. His protective stance over her is dazzling
  31. I agree with the first comment on this list- perfectly protective. I like the edgy look as well; it actually throws into relief that Edward is not human.
    Well done!
  32. It's great! I don't know about the little headliner thing... but I love it!
  33. i love the fact that they are making a movie on one of the best selling books yet. thinking that harry potter(which i like but twilight is way better) is coming out two weeks before the twilight movie, so there is going to be a war in the box offices... what makes me ticked off is that edward has a british accent... hes not british in the book.. but that might be because robert is british!! but i cant wait!
  34. Lovely! It's perfect!
  35. this thing look beautiful its just as i would picture it love it forever ( sorry if i sound a little crazy)
  36. I love this poster, the only thing I that struck me as "No! That's wrong!" was Edward's red eyes. Golden eyes for the angel please!
  37. OMG I LOVE IT!! tho i thik the quote could be made a little bigger so its more noticeable. Just a thought
  38. OMG!!! I can't wait for the movie! and i don't think ill ever stop droooolling over those eyes!!! (ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)
  39. Kristen looks a bit too...helpless and timid. Bella's edgier than that.
  40. Love it! OMG the movie is gonna be AH-MAZING!!!!
  41. I liked it. I think the only thing that would have made it better was if it was more like Bella had buried her head into Edward's shoulder for comfort and Edward was staring at the camera, protective. I think that would have captured the whole tone of the book more because Edward would be looking at you like "Leave her alone, she's mine." I think that would have given me chills if the stare was right. Other than that...GREAT JOB!
  42. OMG!! ITS SOO PERFECT!! they look so cute!! i love it!! =] also it shows how dangerous edward can be but still look hot!! and Kristen looks sooooooooo BEAUTIFUL! =)
  43. I think it is fantastic. I would love to hang it all over my room. I like the darkness it has and the fact that it doesnt give away anything about the movie.
  44. Very hot! I want one!
  45. omg i think my heart stopped beating for a minute...or two!
  46. I really like the poster, it captures "Edwards" hotness
  47. It's... not exactly what I expected. I mean, it's still great, but I hardly saw anything of Edwards face, and I saw no chemistry. I would have thought there might have been more of that. Bella's face looked too childish, and Edwards, too mature. It was still pretty good, though!
  48. This poster is absolutely probably one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. My jaw almost dropped off when I saw it like, six minutes ago [was staring at it for around four and a half].
I really think that Joey did a great job with this; and Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are just so...Twilightesque in this picture. It makes me want the movie to come out even more than before. The poster was really well done, in my opinion. ^-^
  49. this is a really good shot and i like the position of edward its not too much and not too little . bellas position is great but it could be more in sync with edward ya know like more of a a love connection. but overall i love it because i love all the books. amazing
    great job ^.^ !!!
  50. i never really thought of the poster being like this. i just thought it would be like the book cover with the apple. but, might i say this is pretty amazing. i like it a lot.
