‘Twilight’ Poster Photographer To Continue Working On Franchise

Like Edward Cullen eyeballing a deer in the middle of the woods, you can be forgiven if you drool a bit while looking at the first official “Twilight” poster. It’s an MTV exclusive, it’s a thing of beauty, and it was photographed by 18-year-old wunderkind Joey Lawrence.

You can read our interview with Joey over on the MTV Movies page, but here’s an extra-juicy bit of news: Lawrence has signed on to shoot all the posters for “Twilight.” When I was on the set recently, virtually everyone I spoke with brought up plans for sequels, and if those dreams come true Joey would likely return as well. (Click the poster for the high-rez version!)

“Yeah,” he told us recently, swinging by our Santa Monica offices. “I’ll be doing all the next movies.”

Lawrence knew that the first poster had to focus on the key relationship of Edward and Bella, and said he’d like to keep the subsequent images focused on the characters and their couplings.

“I think they’ll probably be keeping the mood pretty dark and edgy still,” he said of his plan. “I’ve read the first script, and I know what happens in the next books just from talking to the actors, so the mood might change a little bit, but the style will stay the same.”

Lawrence also revealed that he’s been meeting with “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke, so that they can synchronize their overall plan.

“I think it’s going to be interesting with her,” insisted Lawrence, who hopes to become a director himself someday. “When I read the script, I realized this is not her kind of movie. Because she’s done like ‘Lords of Dogtown’ and ‘Thirteen,’ so when I read the script I was kind of like, ‘That’s a vampire movie,’ but then to find out that she was doing something with it, I think it’s going to be different than just a normal kind of teenage love story. I think it might be interesting to see.”

We’d expect nothing less, right Twilighters? I want to read the thoughts of each and every one of you (and believe me, we all do!), so here’s your TT question of the week: Is the poster, better, worse, or exactly as you imagined? What, if anything, would you have done differently than Joey?

  1. Woah. This poster is AMAZING. I have been waiting for monts for this movie. I dont know if i can wait another 7 months XD. Where can get one and are there going to be any other posters? thanks.
    -Meg
  2. I think that Edwards eyes are too red... kind of creepy..otherwise they are perfect!GREAT JOB!!!!
  3. I love how everything in the picture looks so perfect and painted, and then you see Bella's hand and it looks normal. I wonder if the photographer did it on purpose, to symbolize something or whatever.

I love this picture, and the movie looks amazing.
  4. In all honesty-I don't like it; It looks like something you would see as a cover for those cheesy 5 dollar romance books at the front of the supermarket- only a bit higher end. The reason why Bella is so great to the readers is because of her everyday IMperfections. Here she looks too...goddess like?

Also, edward doesn't look a thing like he does in the actually preview. He looks just like a vampire- not the beautiful creature he's written (and in the trailer) to be.
  5. I would have had bella kind of looking at edward!!Because she loves him and stares at him a loooooooott!
  6. omggg i LOVE the twilight series!! Its my most favorite chapter book series ever! and i LOVE edward lol
  7. I loved this poster! To tell you the truth, I never imagined a poster. But I do like this one, it's very fitting to me. Though Edward's eyes are kind of bright. I always imagined them a duller color. But this poster rocked!!! This will be good for all the Twilighters out there that are as obsessed as I am, it will tide them over. At least until something else comes out, hopefully soon!
  8. aah chico I loved the books can't wait till the movie comes and the new book breaking dawn :)!!!!!!!!!!!
:)I'm so fell in love with the books(:

Yell that your proud to be a Mexican
  9. This poster is awsome and perfect!!!! I love it!!! I also love the little phrase it fits perfectly!!! I could not have thought of a better picture or phrase. I love the twilight serise and I cannot wait for the movie and the next book to come out!!!! I will say I was alittle worried at fisrt about Rob playing Edward but this poster and some pictures and videos with Bella have and are changing my mind about that. Most of the girls in my school have, are or are going to read twilight and i have not heard a one of them say they didnt like it.
  10. Huh. Edward is absolutley adorable but he looks sweeny todd-ish. I think its his complexion. Anyone agree?
  11. omg this is perfect!! He's captured the essence of edward and BElla perfectly. She's so human and he's so super-natural and yet they both need eachother completely. Especially love how he captured Edwards protective aura, makes me drool in anticipation for the movie!!
  12. I think the poster is to DIE for!! I think it captures the fear and the romance behind it. It makes you want to see more of whats coming, good job Joey!!
  13. Its amazing! =]
  14. edward is ok and bella she will have to do
im praying and hoping that the movie will be
    fantastic.
love the poster they look -hott
  15. I think it looks absolutely beautiful. The way he is over her, very protective like, is really cool.
Can't way to see them together on screen.
  16. I luv twilight and i cant waity for the movie top come out,i am so ready to see it and i cant wait to see wut Stephenie Meyer has in store for the rest of the books and the poster is amszing
  17. Absolutely gorgeous. That's the only way I can describe it.. although I agree with person above me.. they are very.. focused on each other in the book. Although I must say, Rob look every bit like Edward should look.
  18. just like i imagined :)
  19. wow..
    simply that..
at the beginning i didn´t like robbert much,
but now, with all the photoshop and that sort of things,i can see he´s a really good choice!!
can´t wait to see it!! :P

    xoxo
  20. Hey,
Its an awesome poster-the dark theme is really cool. Robert looks good but it reminds me of another movie poster i saw a few months ago...Anyway the eyes are perfect but Kristen looks a bit too soft and "babyish," other then that it's faultless. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see the next ones.

    -Zac
  21. well...they don't seem to be in love with each other..they r lost...thinkin smethin totally different...n besides e1 robert isn't lukin as handsome as he could have..he isn't lukin lyk a god...no not at all....
  22. i'm in love with vampires
  23. this is a great poster!!! since i've started to design ads i've been taking more notice in movie ad etc!!! i love what you did with the eyes. the only thing i would have done different was have her look at him!!!
  24. Rob looks like Edward so much. This winter is going to rock. Can't wait for this movie.
  25. I like it, but I think that Kristen and Robert look a bit more plastic/CGI than people - still quite good though!
  26. The poster is AMAZING! I never really thought about what the poster would loook like, but I really like it. To me, it shows just how Edward and Bella feel about each other, it has all the feelings between them throught the book right there.Intense and amazing! Thank You! I can't wait till the movie comes out-and the other book.
  27. I love the poster. I think it really captured the mood of the books. They really embodied the lion and the lamb in this shot. It's truly amazing, and it makes me even more excited for the movie.
  28. I like her hand on his chest, it's like he really belongs to her. ^^
I wish it didn't look so photoshopped though...
and he should be looking at her or have his arms around her or something.
    I still think it's great though =)
  29. HOW COULD YOU LIKE THE DA EYE THEME. OMG I totally didn't like the set out of the poster. i imagined if more different. and i dont like the chacaters they chose espescially EDWARD HE IS TOTALLY UGLY WHAT FREAK PUT HIM IN THERE FAR OUT!!!!! I WANTED A HOT GUY. ROB PATTERSON IS NOT HOT!!!!! oh and the choise for lead female was a good but i excepted a bit more. kristen does look nice but only ocasionally. the same goes for edard!!!THE ONLY PERSON I THOUGHT WAS HOT WAS PROBABLY JACOB HES HOT!!! AND I THOUGH ALICE WAS SORT OF WEIRD BUT I LIKE HER!!!
ILL STILL WATCH THE MOIVE THOUGH! even if edward is not hot!!!
  30. I like her hand on his chest, it's like he really belongs to her. =O
I wish it didn't look so photoshopped though...
and he should be looking at her or have his arms around her or something.
    I still think it's great though =)
  31. ...sorry for posting twice!
    >
  32. better than id hoped for.
Its edgy, love edwards eyes and bella looks just gorgeous.
i also like it how edward is above her almost like he's protecting her, which we all know he does very well. =)
    looks awesome
  33. I really love this book. and i think the movie will be great!! :D
  34. I'm really love this book!
The best book ever. And the poster is.. .WOW
(sorry my english, i'm from sweden :P )
  35. The poster looks really cool... but i think that Robert's eyes seem a bit over done, while Kristen's face dosent look that real.
other than that, the poster looks great!
I cant wait for December! It seems like a long tome though. :)
  36. oh, I have waited so long for a official poster. I like it, but I think it would be better if "Edwards" eyes wouldn´t be red (looks scary). But the dark mystic mood is perfect, and Bellas position is also great. The whole poster is half in the dark and half in light, really great. Oh I am a miserable reviewer, but this theme just makes me say something. ^^
  37. Its perfect!!!!!!!!!
    cant wait!!!=]]
  38. It's a good poster. I love the lighting. As a teenage girl and avid reader, it's kinda strange that I love taking photos - but I do.
The only thing I would change would be Edmund's eyes. That's all - the redness doesn't look good.
Apart from that, it's brilliant - just like I imagined and more
  39. well its very gorgeous..
    her lips and his look..
it is in this style perfect, but ich had maybe let bella (kristen) look or better stare at edward and edward(robert) look like it seems he looks anywhere if there could be danger..
but in its way it is completely perfect.. dark romantic and secretly...
(another german right here.. sorry, too.. i hope you can understand it, though)
  40. A little disappointing to be honest. I really expected it to be more professional-looking, I don't know if this is only a first draft or what but it's definitly not "polished" enough to be released as a serious movie poster.
It also looks like Edward is really far away from Bella and way too creepy-looking, and it looks like he's wearing lipstick. The poster's only redeeming feature is that it's Twilight
  41. omg. its beautifull =]] edward looks soo vampirely beautifull...sigh bella looks gorgeous. i do think that they shud be looking at each other a bit more though, they dont really seem aware of each others presence. But i luv the way edward seems so protective. I WILL DIE WAITING FOR TWILIGHT TO COME OUTT
  42. Wow!..
    i really like it..
i mean it really shows their relationship really well,

How edwards always so protective and Bella's always needing protecting from his world and everything.

it shows by their body language well,

i love the way he looking out aswell, it's like he's watching out for her.. (You, Know For james and all the other evil vamps!)

    LOVE IT! ^_^
  43. This poster is WAY better than i imagined! At first i didnt think Robert Pattinson could pull off being Edward but now, after seeing the trailer and the poster..DANG i cant wait!!!!
    GREAT JOB
  44. the poster is great. i love it. umm....at first i was worried about who had been pick but i guess every one has a different view of their bella and edward and after see the trailor and this pic its really great. so keep going with the movies. i'm looking forward the seeing all the charactors in all four.
    poster looks GREAT!!!
  45. OMG im so excited for this movie!!!! my friend and i r so goin to this movie!!!!! YAY i love edward none of u can have him! hes MINE!!!
  46. I imagined a bit diferently than that, but I love it all the same!
  47. Well, this is a good quality poster. I like the emphasis of Edwards eyes, and how Bella and him are touching. But it would have been better without all the airbrushing and lighting edits. Bella is a very simple girl, and she would not look like this in a photo. They are lighted... differently? They seem detatched from each other like they were paste together in the picture.
    Not bad.
  48. I actually really like the poster I have always tried to picture Edward and Bella in my head together and this really helps, it makes me so much more excited for the movie, and of course they both look stunning together. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  49. I love it! I wish Bella/Kristen didn't look so innocent, though. And I like him hovering over her; it's like he's protecting her. And I like the hand on the chest too. It's as if to say, "Back off, bish, he's mine!" I like. Has the Lawrence guy read the books? I don't think he'll know what'll satisfy the fans -or the book(s) for that matter- if he hasn't read them. He needs to get a feel for it, don't he? But then again, if the piccatures go more with the books and not the movie, it might mess people up. So I guess I'm fine with that?
    TEAM EDWARD!
  50. Well, I like Bella on this poster, but I don't like Edward 's eyes. They 're disturbing. :/ As I 've seen in the trailer, his eyes were normal, and gorgeous of course. Well that 's why it 's not like I 've imagined.
But I like their embrace and the way Kristen looks in the camera.
Btw, Rob has a perfect face!
