Will ‘Twilight’ Make You Go, Go, Go To ‘Speed Racer’?

The cast of 'Twilight'Quick, when I say “Wing Commander” and “Meet Joe Black,” what’s the first thing that comes to mind?

If it’s “two crappy movies, starring Freddie Prinze and Brad Pitt,” you must have actually had a life back in the primitive Internet age of 1998-1999. The rest of us have fond memories of buying tickets to those movies, getting a glimpse at early “Star Wars: Episode I” trailers, and then sneaking out of the theater to go see something else.

Now, the phenomenon might repeat itself some ten years later, as news has broken that “Speed Racer” will hit theaters next Friday with the highly-anticipated “Twilight” teaser attached. That’s right, kids, fork over your $10 and you’ll get a two-minute glimpse of Edward and Bella on the big-screen.

You’ll also get the bonus of a 129-minute Emile Hirsch movie that some people really, really want to see; others might not.

And here’s the rub: If you keep your eyes peeled on these here Internets at the beginning of next week, let’s just say that there’s a good chance you’ll discover that very same teaser trailer. It ain’t 1998 anymore, folks, and a decade later we’ve all become more accustomed to watching a hot trailer unfold on our computer monitors.

So, Twilighters, here’s a 3-part question of the day: Are you more likely to pay for “Speed Racer” next Friday now that “Twilight” is attached? If so, will you actually stick around to watch “Speed,” or sneak into something like “Iron Man”? And finally, if you see the trailer on the Internet next week, how does that impact your decision?

  1. Larry....are you giving us the Twilight trailer next Tuesday?you are truly amazing!!i hope they gave you a raise
i don't live in America, but if i did i would go and see Speed Racer just for the teaser!!But...now that it will posted it online...it's a different story
please post the trailer online....we NEED to see it

p.s. Twilight has A LOT of fans in Europe, as well
  2. I am hoping our comments to that last question will not deter you from posting the trailer next twilight tuesday...i have a sneaking suspicion you are planning to do so....maybe its just me dreaming...p.s you rock my socks off and i will be entering the movie blog contest ;-) very exciting things going on here at mtv movie blog p.s people should go see speed racer regardless the visuals alone look breathtaking, like mixing pop rocks and soda.
  3. Emile Hirsch and Susan Sarandon are truly talented, but that movie just looks... yeah. That said, I will see Speed Racer. A HUGE screen and loud speakers add to the feel of the teaser. Not like the teaser will need any help blowing people away, but that's how AWESOMENESS was meant to be watched. :)
  4. I'm not looking forward to Speed Racer all that much (let's face the facts... I'm just going to stay in the theatre to spend more time with my boyfriend...), but something about seeing the trailer on the big screen makes it so much more magical than sitting at the computer and staring at the itty bitty screen with the volume that doesn't seem to work all that great.... Nah, I'm going to use every bit of my self-restraint and wait until Friday, even if it does come out before the movie does. ^^
  5. Well, I'm already going to see Iron Man with my dad, so I don't have to sneak into it if I do see Speed Racer. And I most likely won't see Speed Racer because the parental unit(a.k.a. Daddy)refuses to go. If I somehow managed to get a driver's license in a week and $10, then I would definitely go because it's one thing to see the trailer on a computer screen and another to see it on the BIG screen. But still, on the computer, I can replay it however many times I want :)
  6. When I heard the Twilight trailer was going to be before Speed Racer (a movie which I'm not very interested in seeing, despite Emile Hirsch being in it [great actor!]) I decided I would use a free movie pass I have from Christmas, go see the trailer, and then probably leave. But if it is going to be online, I would much rather save my free movie ticket. Movies are expensive now, and with gas prices being so nail-bitingly high, I would rather save that free ticket for something I really want to see. Besides, I have to set some money aside since I will probably go see Twilight fifteen times =)
  7. larry larry larry.

    umm..
i'll probably watch it on the internet.
if i dont watch it on the internet next week (which is unlikely) then i'll probably go see speed racer.
and if i go see speed racer for the twilight teaser i'm not wasting my 10 bucks. lol. i'll stay and watch it. :D
i just feel bad for anyone sitting next to me when the trailer comes on.. cause i will freak out. lol. : ]
    i love you larry!
  8. I haven't watched a movie at the theatres in awhile, so maybe I'll see Speed Racer. But it'll mainly be for the Twilight trailer... seeing ANYTHING Twilight on the big screen makes me scream with joy. I think I'll probably see it. But I'm getting my ten bucks worth and staying to watch the actual movie, not just walking out after the trailer! Haha!
  9. HELLS yes I'm going to spend $12 to see Robert on a big screen in all his fantasticness..hell, I might just faint the second I hear his voice. and yeah, I actually will watch Speed. It doesnt look like the best movie ever (that title belongs to twilight) but it looks pretty good, and Emile is pretty hot, so it'll give me something to look at if the movie does start to suck ;]
lol but over all yes, I will be spending the money mainly to just watch the trailer.
  10. hmmm...I do like the trailer in the big screen and loud speakers, but I won't pay for speed racer. I'll probably pay for something that I haven't and want to see -Harold and Kumar, etc - then sneak before or after to watch the trailer.
  11. I am so extremely excited to see this teaser. However, with gas prices so nail-bitingly high, I would much rather save movie money and watch it online. As a poor college student (yep, seriously poor), I have to set aside money to see movies, and seeing as I will probably go see Twilight fifteen times, it's important to save that money for a movie I actually really want to see.
If I had the money though, I would definitely go see Speed Racer just for the teaser trailer... and then leave the movie theatre once I regained consciousness after the brilliant trailer!
  12. TWO-MINUTES ?! that was a whole lot more than I was expecting .

I was definitely not planning on going to see Speed Racer, but now I might .
BUT, if you were planning on giving us teaser next Tuesday then.... that's a different story .
they really should give you a raise .
    :)
  13. 1) yes, i wasnt planning on seeing it, now i am
    2) Yes, ill stick around to watch, itll be fun, Emile Hirsch is hot, and um, i can have fun making fun of the movie if ts bad
    3) it will make me happy if its on the internet, but its not the same as seeing it on the big screen!

    :D
  14. .......I was just going to wait until someone put it on Youtube.......
    .....
    ....
    ...Lol.

Then again, it'd still be cool to see it on the big screen, but I'll be saving my 10 bucks for when it actually comes out...Plus the bi office hit should be for the hot vampires, not racer boy.

Btw Larry, congratulations! You're going to be a daddy and I'm going to be an aunt! (...Well, not the aunt of your kid, my sister's)
  15. Well to answer your lovely question Larry

    1. I will most likely pay or *coughsneekincough*

    2. i'll go see Speed racer just for the Trailer and then go see something else.

    3. I'll see it on the internet as well. Its just small computer screen and BIG Theater screen is just not the same.

    4. Most likey Speed Racer will make it big in the box office due to us Twlight Fans.
  16. I'll watch it online AND go see it before Speed Racer. And I'll watch Speed Racer too. Matthew Fox has a very sexy chin.
  17. Umm yeah I would pay $10 to see it in a live theater...
  18. I'll answer these out of syntax:

Even if I see the movie on the internet before I see it in theatres i'll still want to see it. The whole feeling of seeing it on the "big screen" is much more exciting. I frequently attend the cinemas so i'd probably watch the trailer and Speed Racer and also watch the trailer another time and sneak into a different movie.
  19. Wow. I just went to the movies two days ago, so my parents won't let me go for a while. But, like I said, wow. I know that the teaser will end up on the Internet pretty soon, but I'd love to see it on the big screen! Thx so much Larry!
  20. I have no interest in going to see Speed Racer just to view the trailer that's available to me for free online. I can play it over and over again on my computer. I can spend the $11 (here in NYC) I would have spent on Speed Racer on something more practical, like Stephenie Meyer's THE HOST.

If I had wanted to see Speed Racer to begin with, I'd be there, but since I don't, my computer screen will serve nicely.
  21. Oh, yes! I will be there! two hours early with a bucket of water, just in case I faint! Thank you sincerely for this information. I am going to stay for the movie, but, if it turns out bad, I can always read my favorite book Twilight, right? ^^
  22. If I had extra money to waste, I'd go see the movie just for the trailer. But I don't. So I'm not.
  23. Speed Racer? What's that? Lol jk. IM ALL FOR SEEING THE TRAILER EARLY IN THE WEEK! I'll go see Made of Honor next weekend and sneak in for the trailer on the big screen and scream really loud EDWARD CULLEN - AHHHHHH - BE THERE!!!!! and run out, sounds like a plan!
  24. If I lived in the US.. I'd definitely go and see Speed Racer, just so I could see the Twilight trailer. Actually, I'd go a few times.

Then I'd leave after the trailer ended, and go home. lol.
  25. heh I'll definitely spend $11 to see the trailer :'D The movie theater's only a block away from my house (along with a huge shopping mall) so I can watch that, buy The Host and bum around 8D No one better SQUEAL though...cuz I'll go insane...
  26. Hell ya! I'd pay 20$ just to get in the movie theater to see the Twilight teaser trailer, poor Speed Racer, I'd fall asleep after the teaser LMFAO
  27. We're going to Speed Racer either way. Already have plans for a Saturday showing.

While I would be thrilled to see a Twilight Teaser before SR (And I'm not counting on it. My market has a habit of not having the advertised trailers.) I would LOVE to have the chance to watch it over and over on my computer.
  28. If I knew someone that actually wanted to go see Speed Racer, I'd tag along just to watch the trailer. Since I don't know anyone like that NO WAY! I'll just see it on the internet. Now, if there wasn't internet access to it....I might be tempted.
  29. Are you more likely to pay for “Speed Racer” next Friday now that “Twilight” is attached? I'm not from the US, but if I were then HELL YES. I was going to watch Speed Racer anyway though (a Korean dude that I am a fan of is in it)... so it's not a big deal for me.

If so, will you actually stick around to watch “Speed,” or sneak into something like “Iron Man”?
Yes, I will stick around for Speed Racer. I already mentioned I would be seeing the movie anyway, Twilight trailer included or not.

And finally, if you see the trailer on the Internet next week, how does that impact your decision?
Absolutely not. Seeing the trailer on a computer screen will not do it justice. I mean, you just can't compare a crappy LQ clip to the big screen. You HAVE TO see it on the big screen to be adequately ~dazzled~.
  30. I will go to speed racer just for the trailer!! Completely worth it in my book! If you post it before speed racer comes out, then only if the trailer is good will I still go to the theatre, just to see it all big like! Plus I'm dragging my bff! And yeah I'm going to try to sneak into another movie after the trailer. xD Or plain just leave cause I'll be to excited to stay and watch anything after a Twilight Trailer. xD
  31. If the trailer isn't online by the time Speed Racer is out, then I'm definetly going to buy tickets to see that movie. And then walk out. LOL.
  32. I don't really want to see speed racer but i sure will pay $10 to see a twilight trailer on the big screen!!
  33. I haven't decided if I will go see speed racer yet but if I do it won't be just to see the twilight trailer. For one thing is it definite that it will play on every speed racer, everywhere? I have definitely been disappointed in the past where I was expecting to see a certain trailer with a movie and then didn't. Besides it will break on the internet first anyway and then I can watch it over and over again and it sounds like I will be watching it over and over again on this site, isn't that so Larry? ;)
  34. Should I be honest ?
    I think I would go. Just for the trailer. But I'm living in germany so that's not possible. ^^;
(But that's VERY GOOD because of that 2 minute teaser trailer I wouldn't be able to concentrate ANY SECOND on speed racer. lol even though I'm not really interested in it.. XD so that doesn't matter anyway. :P )
Buuuuuut... since it will be posted online.. that's so much better then! I can squee, cry and dance around in the room without beind scolded or anything else.

Oh Larry. Did I mention that I love you for what you already did for us? XD
    You're one amazing person. unbeliebable
  35. I think MTV ate my comment :(

    1. I'm not from the US, but if I were then HELL YES. I was going to watch Speed Racer anyway though (a Korean dude that I am a fan of is in it)... so it's not a big deal for me.
    2. Yes, I will stick around for Speed Racer. I already mentioned I would be seeing the movie anyway, Twilight trailer included or not.
    3. It wouldn't impact my decision at all. Seeing the trailer on a computer screen will not do it justice. I mean, you just can't compare a crappy LQ clip to the big screen. You HAVE TO see it on the big screen to be adequately ~dazzled~.
  36. guys.. i think we're spilling the beans on sneaking out to see another movie after the teaser has passed. haha they'll be waiting for dozens of girls to sneak out of speed racer now. not saying i'm not going to try anyway. :)
  37. I was considering the idea of watching Speed Racer because of Emile and Rain... but when I heard that the trailer might be attached to it my mind was set...HELL FREAKIN YES!!!!...so if the trailer is on there then bloody awesome, if not then thats cool too I will just stick around for the movie....
Oh and if the trailer comes out earlier in the week....oh I dunno say Twilight Tuesday...perhaps????....well anyways if the trailer does come out before friday then I will watch it online then go see speed racer to watch the trailer on the big screen with awesome sound...

OMG!!! I get all excited just thinking about it..

Larry I just wanted to tell you ...you completely and totally rock!!! \m/(^_^)\m/
  38. I will see it on the big screen....

And the internet if you bring it to me.

    :)
  39. 1. Sure, it looks like a fun movie. 2. Ditto. 3. I'd probably still go see Speed Racer!
  40. While I love Emile Hirsch a 129 mins sounds a bit long. Its awfully tempting to go just and see it for a minute on the big screen even if I already have watched it on the internet. And where I live it only costs me $7 to see a movie! HA
  41. I am being dragged to Speed Racer, so this will be well worth it! I can not wait! Nothing compares to the big screen, but at least I can watch it over and over again at home.
  42. I was considering the idea of going to see Speed Racer because of Emile and Rain... but then I heard about the twilight teaser attached to it and my mind was set....HELL FREAKIN YES!!!....I am so there.... so if they show it on friday with the movie....it will be bloody awesome... if not then that will be ok and I will just stick around for the movie. Oh and if the trailer comes out before friday then I will watch it online then go watch it in the theaters just to see it on the big screen with great sound and the whole dealio....
so yeah prettty excited for next week....

    oh and Larry
dude you totally, completely rock!!!!.. did you know that???...seriously dude...\m/(^-^)\m/
  43. Larry!

As i'm in England i will have to wait for the internet version. But i would have gone to see it at the cinema.

Larry do you know if Twilight is coming to English cinema's???
  44. If you... omg. Larry, if Twilight Tuesday is actually Twilight Trailer Tuesday, you will be my absolute favorite person in the world.

Of course I'm not going to see Speed Racer. It'll be on other movies soon, and even though I'll watch it a ton online, I'll still get excited when it just randomly shows up before some other movie I see. *Prince Caspian?*
  45. Larry, You are an evil man. I love the way the tease the fans! THANKS!
  46. Theres such a big difference between seeing the Trailer online and on the big screen.. -ponders-

Personally, I /might/ go see Speed Racer, and actually sit through it after I get to see the trailer. My parents would kill me if I got up and walked out of a movie that I "wanted to see" XDD

Still undecided. Depends on when it shows up online, I suppose.
  47. I wanted to see Speed Racer before I knew about the trailer, cause... well SR just looked intense and amazing x) But now it have even more of an incentive for me to fork over $10, cause I'll see the amazing movie, as well as the short, but great trailer.

If I wasn't up to see SR, I would still pay the money to go see the movie just for the trailer, though it's released on the internet, it's just not the same as seeing it on the big screen.

  48. To tell you the truth I personally WONT spend 10 bucks to see the teaser. PLUS Speed Racer is a movie That I am not interested in...
IF the teaser does come out... then... won't it be on the internet?
I'll just watch it there... + its FREE~

and LARRY YOU ARE TEASING US WAY TOO MUCH!
  49. Here is a thought. Theater owners would make a billion dollars just showing the trailer of Twilight and charging 10 bucks. Who needs a movie along with it????
  50. Larry, you truely are the coolest man ever. I want to go see it on the big screen (I won't be sticking around to watch Speed..I don't think..) but I don't know if I can make myself dish out 10 bucks. I WANT too, but I don't know...

And you tease us alot. It is only going to make the final product so much sweeter. Thank You!!!
