In the Stephenie Meyer novel “Twilight,” many scenes compete for the most romantic moment, but many agree that the winner is when Edward Cullen sits down at a piano and plays a heartfelt song written for his love Bella.
With the film version on its way, an army of fans have been lobbying Meyer and director Catherine Hardwicke on the songs they think should be used as “Bella’s Lullaby.” Now, we finally have an answer – and as life imitates art, it should get Twilighters squealing in anticipation.
“Yes, it does exist in the movie,” Kristen Stewart told me while I was interviewing her and Robert for the article that just went live here, on the topic of “Bella’s Lullaby.” “And cutely enough, Rob is writing it on the piano as we speak.”
For those unaware, Robert Pattinson has a musical background; as such, Hardwicke has asked the 21-year-old to come up with an original composition. “I was doing music before I started acting, so I still have bits and pieces, and I’ve been playing in Portland [during the shoot],” he revealed. “I’ve been trying to write an album for years and years.”
“I told him he should write one, and let’s see if we can make it work, because that would be really cool if it was Rob’s song,” Hardwicke said of the lullaby. “He’s a beautiful musician, a very creative soul, very similar to Edward. He just totally reads the most interesting stuff, and sees the most interesting movies, and is very introspective and diving into his existential self.”
When I interviewed Meyer separately, she was delighted but surprised by the news. “That’s something I didn’t know,” she admitted. “I’ve never heard him play, so it’s kind of hard to say [whether his lullaby will be as I imagined it]. If it worked out right, it would be really cool.”
“He can play piano, so it’ll be great,” Stewart promised. “It’s going to be really good.”
In fairness, however, Hardwicke said she can’t commit to Pattinson’s song until he presents her with the finished product. “Maybe Rob’s song will win the contest,” she cautioned. “Or, maybe another song will.”
Meyer might welcome that scenario, as the author/music lover said she’d always hoped the gig could go to the lead singer for her beloved band, Muse. “Personally, I don’t think anybody could do a better job than Matthew Bellamy, because he is an amazing composer and his instrumental stuff is just the way Edward should play, because its so complicated,” Meyer observed. “It almost sounds like you’d have to have two people playing to get that level of sound. So, that would be my favorite.”
“But,” she added, keeping an open mind, “If Robert could write a lullaby, that would definitely add to some of the mystique of the movie, wouldn’t it?”

I’m not sure…being a musician and song writer myself I know that it takes a lot of music knowledge to write a song; espically for one as complex and difficult as Stephenie wants. It would be mega cute if Robert wrote it, but I don’t think the product would be exactly what Stehenie is looking for. And plus, Robert probably doesn’t need the extra stress!

Woah-ho-ho!! That just made my heart flutter!! Now my stomach is all squishy! How romantic is it that our own Robert Pattinson is composing the lullaby (maybe)!!?? Just another reason to worship, erm, I mean love him!! That will be SO cool! Portland’s music scene is definitely rubbing off on Rob, and I think that is super sweet!

I am so happy that the lullaby will be part of the movie! That is amazing.
It it would be really great if Rob wrote the song i believe it would make the moment more personal. Rob really seems to understand Edward so i believe he would do an amazing job composing it. So Rob i hope it works out good luck.

I think this is a great idea. Why not let Robert have a go at the lullaby. Since he has been playing Edward he may be able to express the feelings Edward has for Bella better than anyone. After all he is our Edward.

He definitely should, it would be a hundred times more meaningful if Robert wrote the composition. After all he is playing Edward in the movie, therefore its only logical if he writes it. I would really love to see Robert write the piece. I thik that if its his song hes going to be emotionally connected to it, and people who are watching the movie can tell that he has a passion for music(as Edward and Robert).It would be great.
The lullaby is a very special scene for me and for other girls and i think that if his song he can portrait Edward more.A little touch of Robert in the movie.

Having listened to all of Muse’s music, and considering that I’m a huge fan of Matthew Bellamy’s work, I vote for Matt to write the lullaby. He’s got a mastery of the piano that you don’t find these days in rock stars, and since he pulls a lot of his inspiration from greats like Rachmaninov and Chopin, it’s bound to be something fantastic if it’s his piece.
So that’s my two-cents. I’d be open to it being Robert’s piece, but I don’t know him as a composer at all.

O M G!!!!!!!! I would totally LOVE if Rob sang his original song for the lullaby!!! That would be just as if Edward had really written the lullaby (HE IS EDWARD!) and add something really special to the movie!!! If however the song he writes isn’t chosen i would love to see him playing “River flows in you” or “kiss the Rain” by Yiruma. Rob’s hands are SO PERFECT!! i’m going to hyperventilate when i watch that scene.. i’ve been dreaming with it for months!!!

My first reaction to the choice of Robert Pattinson as Edward was : ” OMG!!! Are they crazy!!!They can’t make the movie a flop… but after seeing some trailers and pictures of him I started liking him more and more. Now I can say I would be glad if he do the job and write a song that conveyes part in the movie, the romantic and mysterious one.

Not all that crazy about MUSE to be honest, but something tells me that Robert would knock it out of the ballmark and not only that, to have your star sing the hottest/biggest song (or one of them) in the film-well, I can see massive amounts of advertising tie-ins to make this movie an even BIGGER event than it will already be! Plus, he is just plain HOT and very sweet, no question and no surprise that he has a musical creative soul, just adds more to the movie!(By the way, I’m 40 so this movie is NOT just being anticipated by the tweenies out there! All ages crave a good love story

I love the idea of Rob writing the Lullaby for the movie. That would totally add a special something to the movie I was hoping would be there. Lets hope his song wins!!!!
