Robert Pattinson Composing ‘Bella’s Lullaby’ For ‘Twilight’ Movie

Robert PattinsonIn the Stephenie Meyer novel “Twilight,” many scenes compete for the most romantic moment, but many agree that the winner is when Edward Cullen sits down at a piano and plays a heartfelt song written for his love Bella.

With the film version on its way, an army of fans have been lobbying Meyer and director Catherine Hardwicke on the songs they think should be used as “Bella’s Lullaby.” Now, we finally have an answer – and as life imitates art, it should get Twilighters squealing in anticipation.

“Yes, it does exist in the movie,” Kristen Stewart told me while I was interviewing her and Robert for the article that just went live here, on the topic of “Bella’s Lullaby.” “And cutely enough, Rob is writing it on the piano as we speak.”

For those unaware, Robert Pattinson has a musical background; as such, Hardwicke has asked the 21-year-old to come up with an original composition. “I was doing music before I started acting, so I still have bits and pieces, and I’ve been playing in Portland [during the shoot],” he revealed. “I’ve been trying to write an album for years and years.”

“I told him he should write one, and let’s see if we can make it work, because that would be really cool if it was Rob’s song,” Hardwicke said of the lullaby. “He’s a beautiful musician, a very creative soul, very similar to Edward. He just totally reads the most interesting stuff, and sees the most interesting movies, and is very introspective and diving into his existential self.”

When I interviewed Meyer separately, she was delighted but surprised by the news. “That’s something I didn’t know,” she admitted. “I’ve never heard him play, so it’s kind of hard to say [whether his lullaby will be as I imagined it]. If it worked out right, it would be really cool.”

“He can play piano, so it’ll be great,” Stewart promised. “It’s going to be really good.”

In fairness, however, Hardwicke said she can’t commit to Pattinson’s song until he presents her with the finished product. “Maybe Rob’s song will win the contest,” she cautioned. “Or, maybe another song will.”

Meyer might welcome that scenario, as the author/music lover said she’d always hoped the gig could go to the lead singer for her beloved band, Muse. “Personally, I don’t think anybody could do a better job than Matthew Bellamy, because he is an amazing composer and his instrumental stuff is just the way Edward should play, because its so complicated,” Meyer observed. “It almost sounds like you’d have to have two people playing to get that level of sound. So, that would be my favorite.”

“But,” she added, keeping an open mind, “If Robert could write a lullaby, that would definitely add to some of the mystique of the movie, wouldn’t it?”

Would you like to see Robert sing his original song as the lullaby? Or would you rather have someone like Bellamy writing it? Cast your vote, Twilighters, and don’t forget that the people involved with the film read our boards!

Robert or Muse - oh wow. that’s easy. ROBERT!! haha, i LOVE LOVE LOVE muse, buuuuuuut i think it would be really cool if robert did it. considering that he has plays piano and whatnot. that would be awesome.

  2. M.Heart Says:

ROBERT SHOULD WRITE/SING HIS OWN LULLABY! The movie is already flawless enough, why not keep that going? I think it would add to the magic and beauty of Edward Cullen if the actor himself was part of that specific process. It’s become literall. I’d rather swoon over something beautiful that came from his heart, than from someone else’s. He read the books, and has perfected Edward. Let’s let him write from what he felt in that chapter!

  3. Nimriel Says:

I would love to have Robert writing the lullaby that’s so dear to Bella. I think it would make the movie even more great and original.

  4. Twilight Siren Says:

  8. Stephanie Says:

I think having Rob write the lullaby would bring something absolutely magical to the film. Stephenie Meyer herself has said that he and Kristen are channeling Edward and Bella. I absolutely would love to hear the lullaby as composed by Rob.

And yes, MTV, Larry needs a raise! Twilightmoms love you!

  9. Stacey Says:

  13. Deanna Says:

As a musician myself, I know the depth of what it takes to write a song. The song is a part of the composer and an expression of oneself, ideas and beliefs. To compose a song is to lay bare and make vulnernable a very personal part of who you are. With that said, I believe it is a wonderful idea to have Rob be the one to write “Bella’s Lullaby.” It seems everyone involved in the movie, the director, the author, Stephanie Meyer, and all the co-actors agree that Rob essentially is Edward. If this is the case, he seems to be in tune with the depth of the character he is portraying and probably the best person to understand the sincerity and personal expression of “Bella’s Lullaby.” Rob will be the one performing the song so it’s always better to do something that is honest, which would be something he wrote. I understand Stephanie Meyer had an idea of how this would sound when she wrote the story. When she wrote, she had no idea the movie would be made. I’m sure Matthew Bellamy could do a good job but he doesn’t have the insight into Edward’s character that Rob does, therefore, he can’t write from the perspective of the character that Rob is portraying. Please, if Rob truly is a gifted musician as it seems others seem to say he is, go with his interpretation of “Bella’s Lullaby.”

  14. Sophy Says:

I can’t believe it.. this is like all my dreams have come true.. omg
    ROBERT SHOULD ABSOLUTELY WRITE IT!!!!!
Please, please, let Robert’s lullaby be in the movie!!! PLEASE!!!
    That would make it perfect.

    Robert HAS to do it!!
    How amazing would that be?
Gah, he is just the perfect Edward.

  17. Alannah Says:

OMG. I almost died when I heard this. I’m a Muse fan, but it would be Awesome if Rob wrote it. He’d really truly be Edward.

  18. Mys. Duende Says:

My vote is for rPattz - I mean, Robward to show his stuff! :) What better way to incorporate the musical stuff that he wants to do? Golden opportunity.

Let’s save Muse/Bellamy music for the prom sequence. I can totally see Bellward slow dancing to ‘Sing for Absolution’ and ‘Endlessly.

  19. Laura Says:

It would make the scene of Bellas’lullaby even more romantic in the film! As if the whole story might be true!

  20. Georgia Says:

I would love it if Rob was to write the lullaby himself, it would be so cute =)

    Go Robert, Go!

  21. Eternal Pasion Says:

Wow, this is great news! If it’s going to be like this every Tuesday this is going to drive me crazy! (in a good way) Thanks a million Larry for this fantastic news!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We’ve been talking about it in Our site and I think it could be a beautiful experience. GOD! This boy is amazing!!!! I can’t hardly wait to see the movie!!!

  23. lolicon Says:

Stephenie Meyer’s obsession with Muse is bordering on disturbing.

  24. Michelle Says:

I think it is AWESOME that Rob has been asked to compose the so very important lullaby. He truly is Edward and it would be so cool if his composition is used.

  25. Celina Says:

I think the movie and the song would mean a whole lot more if Robert was the one who made the song, after all, Robert is Edward…who knows he might not just be creating it for Bella the character, but for Kristen herself lol. (just kidding) but it would just be a whole different thing if Robert makes the lullaby,it would make the scene more meaningful.

  26. Sara Says:

    Oh yeah!!
I’m all for it. It’d be great if he did compose the lullaby. It’s quite exciting.
    GO ROB!!!!!

  27. Tessa Carpitella Says:

Rob should definitely do it. That would be absolutely amazing!

  28. Eve Says:

Rob Rob Rob Rob Rob Rob Rob Rob Rob Rob Rob!!!

  29. Lynn Says:

I would love for Robert to put his music out there and especially for Bella, but the lullaby is special and if someone else can write it better, I’m all for that. :)

  30. Ana Says:

OOOOOOOOH! I saw an interview of Robert yesterday and i was excited when he say he play the piano!

  31. lisa Says:

    OH MY GOD!!!
It would be AWESOME (!!!!) if Robert would write the Lullaby himself!!!

    greetings from germany
    Lisa

  32. Roshani Says:

OMG! ROB SHOULD SO WRITE IT! though making it up on the spot isn’t such an amazing idea….
HE SHOULD SOOOOOOOO WRITE IT! that’d be the best!

  33. Jessica Says:

Yes!!! Robert definately should write the lullably, if Stephenie and Catherine okays it. I think if he knows Edwards POV then give it a try! YEEHAWww!!! That would be freakin’ awesome if he came to Nashville!! I only live like an hour away! WoooHooo!!!! Im so excited for the movie and his possible music career!!

  34. sam Says:

Oh My Gosh!! If Robert could write the lullaby that would be amazing. I knew that he played the piano, so I was hoping that he would do that in the movie, but if there was a chance that it was one of his compositions, I say GO FOR IT!!! Too cool!

  35. Paola Says:

I agree with everyone, it would be so cool if Rob wrote the lullaby. Thanks Larry for such awesome articles keep them coming.

  36. Marybeth Says:

It would be soo amazing to hear a composition of Rob’s as the lullabye ^-^
I’ve always wanted to hear him sing but I’ve never heard him yet..so it would be a wonderful present to us fans if he could present a song of his composition in the movie..
of course,I’d probably have a heart attack just hearing him lol..but like what i said,it would be sooo enthralling if that were to happen=]]

  37. Evie Says:

Ok it would be awesome if Robert’s song came out beautifully but they had to pit him against Matthew Bellamy… I can’t choose! I’d probably love either one. But I love, Love, LOVE Muse. I can’t decide.

  38. Jessica Hodges Says:

    …ROB SHOULD TOTALLY WRITE IT.

The muse is great, but… because it’s ROB, and if he can pull it off… HE SHOULD GET TO DO IT. It’ll add a more personal feeling… and when the soundtrack for the movie comes out, his song would be like the most listened track on the CD. SERIOUSLY. I just can’t see the muse doing something like that, but I do hope there are some MUSE tracks on the cd, along with Death Cab For Cutie, and MCR.

  39. Katie Says:

BOTH!!! It would be a total win/win situation!

  40. Beth Says:

I think Rob should go for it. I’m looking forward to this. I’m so excited for him to be Edward and I think he’s perfect for the part. I’m glad that he’s musicly linclined and that he wants to compose Edward’s lullaby. I am super excited now. Go Rob!

  41. Adult Twi-hard Says:

This is a very important song, I would love to have something by Robert, I am not a fan of Stephanie’s favorite group Muse, so I don’t know if they can pull off someting like this- I do know that this song MUST be the best thing ever composed, that will be hard to pull off for anyone! We will have to see.

  42. Annie J Says:

This is big news! I am a HUGE Muse fan. If Matt Bellamy wrote the lullaby I know it would be amazing, but who knows if he would have the time. The fact that rob might write the lullaby makes him even more irresistible! He is Edward! I think that would be cool addition to the movie! I am just glad that they are keeping the lullaby scene in the movie. It is one of my favorite parts in the book. :) Thanks Larry!

  43. Mingming Says:

Great article/interview! Thanks! Can’t wait to hear the lullaby and SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

  44. filipamd Says:

    two words…
    AWESOME
    CUTENESS
…and a couple of exclamation points xD

I love it when he says “it’ll be great!” xD

  45. Amber Says:

I think it would be great if Rob wrote the lullaby. Us fans would definately be thrilled.

  46. Ann Says:

oh wow! Robert IS Edward! This is so great!

  47. Nicole Says:

I would really love to hear what Rob would come up with as a lullaby for Bella from Edward. From interviews that I have seen I think that Rob has a very good handle on who Edward is. So I think that if he is comfortable with the idea of composing something, the fans would just eat it up.

  48. Jess Says:

OH!!! It would be absolutely incredibly amazingly excitingly great if Rob wrote it…Seriously. You really have no idea what it would do to us fans, knowing that he, himself, wrote it. That it came from the man standing as Edward, rather than some composer that isn’t his incarnation or anything close. Even if Rob’s compostition wasn’t as “good” as said composer’s, the fact that it was Rob’s would make it that much more truly valuable to us. Oh, I really hope he writes it. Please!!!

  49. Annie Says:

Sorry Stephenie, but ROBERT PWNS BELLAMY. Any day. Even though I love Muse to death, I want RPATTZ to write it. It’ll be the closest thing we will get a real Edward writing the song. LOL.

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I think they’ve already filmed a scene concerning Robert playing piano? Whose composition did they use?

But Robert composing the song is all kinds of awesome. I mean, the guy practically IS Edward. Wait, scratch that. HE IS EDWARD CULLEN, THEREFORE HE CAN DO NO WRONG IN FANDOM’S EYES. ANY LULLABY COMPOSED BY RPATTZ IS AUTOMATICALLY CANON. TRUFAX.

And someone needs to let Robert know that if he releases an album anytime soon, the entire Twilight fanbase would buy a copy of it.

PS: Summit, please know that all female Twilight fans are promptly sending their firstborns for the inclusion of the lullaby.

  50. Regilene Says:

OMG! Yes, Robert! It will be the best lullaby I never heard before! OMG! I loved this idea! Reeealllyyy loved it!
