Whatever else negative you can say about Uwe Boll, one thing you can’t criticize him on is his strong love for video games. I mean, there may be over 200,000 signatures on an online petition asking that he stop making movies, but he clearly loves the gamer market, and at least goes into each project hoping to make good films for that fanboy community.
Right? Right?!?
“You go for it, to please the game fans, but on the other hand if you have the hard core gamers, they live in their own world. And you cannot fulfill their ideas from a video game based movie, it’s impossible,” Boll recently told MTV News. “And to be honest, the real gamers are the typical download guys, right? They don’t pay anything for movies, because they illegally download the movies. So why I should please these guys? I need the normal audience.”
That’s the Uwe Boll I know and love – the Uwe Boll who’ll criticize even his most ardent followers. God bless you, sir.
But if you’re not going to make a faithful adaptation, why make an adaptation at all? Apparently, the folks over at Blizzard wonder the same thing, since they practically laughed Boll out of their offices when he approached them about making a World of Warcraft adaptation, the director confessed.
“I got in contact with Paul Sams of Blizzard, and he said, ‘We will not sell the movie rights, not to you…especially not to you,’” Boll revealed. “Because it’s such a big online game success, maybe a bad movie would destroy that ongoing income, what the company has with it.”
A bad movie! He called his hypothetical adaptation bad. Awesome.
What do you think? Could Uwe Boll have made a decent WOW flick? Come to think of it, what would a WOW flick even be about? Sound off below.

April 19th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
blizzard announced at blizzcon 2007 that they are making a WoW movie, based on history/lore that precedes the timeframe of World of Warcraft by some years.
April 20th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Ofc he would never make an good WoW movie look at his other movies all C R A P
Im so happy that hes >>NOT
April 21st, 2008 at 7:02 am
Germany apologize for Uwe !!!
April 21st, 2008 at 7:12 am
Nobody steals your movies Uwe. They just suck that hard.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:39 am
What I want to know is, which fool keeps giving this guy money to make films? Do they think if he keeps doing it often enough, eventually he’ll make one that doesn’t suck?
April 21st, 2008 at 9:17 am
LOOOOOOOOOOL
What a stupid man, he doesn’t even understand how Blizzard totally pwnd him and his crappy portefolio.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:17 am
@Iain:
A tax loophole allowed him to make money because of flops (see: The Producers, seriously). However, that hole has now been closed, so he will soon disappear into nothingness.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:36 am
Hmmm lets see now… Lets have a look back at some of Uwe Boll previous creations and what they have resulted to and what we can expect if he was to try to create WoW movie.
House of the Dead = SH$T
Alone in the Dark = SH$TTY
Blood Rayne = Stink Bomb
Blood Rayne 2 = Garbage
Ok judging by the outcome we can safely conclude that if Uwe Boll was to create WoW movie the result will turn out to be “TOTAL OBLIVION”.
Soooooooo, yeah - Message to Uwe Boll “Get The Fcuk Out of the video game / movie adaptation business cause you definitely suck at it.”
April 21st, 2008 at 10:09 am
Download his movies ? A true hardcore gamer would NEVER waste bandwith for that.
April 21st, 2008 at 11:52 am
Please, please Mr Uwe Boll, stop making movies…Even Alan Smithee will refuse to sign your movies.
April 21st, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Uwe Boll is the lousiest movie-maker the world has ever seen.. i even regret wasting my time on watching some of the trailer of his so-called movies.
” hjk Says:
April 21st, 2008 at 7:02 am
Germany apologize for Uwe !!!”
i cant apologize for a shithead like him…
hes just so dumb to not understand that totaly no one wants to see, what name he gave to his newest #$*$, fresh fished from his toilet…
JUST WHY!?!?!?!?
April 21st, 2008 at 1:11 pm
He doesn’t care about he gamer market. He cares about things he can license cheaply. People are desperate to get their games made in to movies, so they’ll low ball it.
He makes* money regardless of how well the movie does, so why put in any effort?
* - At least until Germany repealed the tax break. Maybe now he’ll become poor and homeless.
April 21st, 2008 at 1:55 pm
The phrase “Good movie” and the name “Uwe Boll” Should never be able to appear in the same piece of literature together.
The idea of him making a good game based movie is laughable at best.
He’s a joke.
April 21st, 2008 at 2:34 pm
“…gamers are the typical download guys, right? They don’t pay anything for movies, because they illegally download the movies.”
This is brilliant. No, seriously. He is talking about the people who cash out enough so that a billion dollar industry feeds off of them.
Well, frankly I would expect him to say something like that. After his “boxing promotion” I list Boll among the most deplorable knaves to have ever walked the earth.
April 21st, 2008 at 2:53 pm
“Uwe Boll Won’t Ever Be Entering The World Of Warcraft” Thank God!! Way to go Blizzard for the early “HELL NO!!”
April 21st, 2008 at 2:58 pm
LOL, the whole thing is hilarious, specially considering WoW makes as much money each month as your average Hollywood blockbuster. (14.99 x 10 million subscribers, so around $150 million, not counting the sale of expansions and such)
Why, oh why, would they even sell the movie rights, they could easily hire Peter Moore and give him a higher budget than he had for LoTR ($270 mill) with just 2 or 3months worth of subscriptions, and retain full rights to their IP.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:03 pm
We illegally download the movies?
In your dreams, Uwe. In your dreams. Your movies aren’t worth watching, let alone stealing.
I’m a hardcore gamer (and yes, I signed the petition). I just had to buy another DVD cabinet because my collection outgrew the previous two. They’re full of hundreds of movies, all 100% totally legal. Notably lacking are any of his.
Hopefully his real-life run of The Producers is over now.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Nahlog, I think you mean Peter Jackson.
Uwe Boll is awesome. Anybody that physically beats the sh!t out of his critics has got my props. Plus the totally gratuitous sex scene in BloodRayne? Ben Oscar Winner Kingsly in the performance of a lifetime? Oh how I love your trashy flicks, Mr. Boll.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:52 pm
I apologize!
I’ve recently seen the craptastic Dungeon Siege movie on DVD, the best part is the directors commentary: pretty hilarious comedystuff from Uns Uwe!
April 21st, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Thats a pure damn shame of all shames shameful.
Uwe must have bumped his head long long ago and has been felt sorry for throughout the years of making such low grade movies.
Approaching Blizz’ about a WoW Movie!?
He must have lost his mind!!
Step down and direct porn…no..naw don’t even consider porn either!!
April 21st, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Where is the petition?

April 21st, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Personally I love this guy. Sure I don’t watch any of his movies, but just knowing that he’s out there doing what he does and flipping the biggest bird to anyone and everyone that calls him out….well that just makes me smile inside. Not a single other person in the Hollywood system has cajones like this guy.
Go Uwe!!
April 22nd, 2008 at 3:16 am
The amount of money this guy has wasted in his career, could have ended hunger for a 3rd world country.
He may have cajones, but going around insulting people will eventually end his career, because he’s going to piss off the people that allow him to make movies.
As I see it Uwe Boll is actually ending his own career, that petition is just a back-up that he can use as a scape-goat.
April 22nd, 2008 at 3:37 am
did any1 see his youtube vid dissing all the good directors and how he is the greatest in the world and that he is jst miss understood rofl i dont thinks o uwe maybe its jst that you suck…..ALOT.
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:37 am
I love this quote from uwe : “They don’t pay anything for movies, because they illegally download the movies. So why I should please these guys? I need the normal audience.”
This is not his favorit audiance, but they do pay blizzard, so naturaly blizzards wants to keep them happy (and right they are). And if Blizzard would want a movie, they will make it themselves.
April 22nd, 2008 at 5:45 am
His ego is outstanding, he must have like 10 “yes-you-are-the-man” followers aside him every day.
And he just wont take the massive screams of horror to make him stop. The movies are bad, RELY bad..
It´s not just possible to like them in anyway…
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:35 am
uwe what? this guy is crazy, he was the fool who made dungeon siege and alone in the dark which where both awfull movies, nobody wanted to see the movie gamers as well as movie fans … and now he wants the rights to do a wow movie, lol lol lol
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:58 am
lol Players who pay a monthly subscription for a game will “illegally download” bad movies?
perhaps ONLY if the films ain’t worth the price of admission, y’know?
I do wish he plays WoW, only so we can form raids to gank him, over and over, the moment he leaves the training zones.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:51 am
boll destroys everything what he get in his fingers. thats the right decision of blizzard
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:40 am
I think that Uwe Boll does no one any harm. Looking forward to a Warcraft movie about the First and Second Great Wars though.
April 22nd, 2008 at 2:05 pm
AHAHAHAHAA .. “cough” .. AAHAHAAAAHAHHAH
April 22nd, 2008 at 3:43 pm
All I have to say about this, is “Owned”.
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Haw, Uwe. There’s already a Warcraft movie in the works by Legendary Pictures, based on a few important events between WC3 and WoW, and told from the Alliance’s point of view (ick). If anyone can make a truly epic film, it’s these guys.
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:41 pm
“‘We will not sell the movie rights, not to you…especially not to you,’”
They should have that ?~?%@%* framed and put on the wall
April 22nd, 2008 at 5:36 pm
I am so utterly embarrassed that this guy is from Germany >.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
LOL His love for movies??? You got Ulti-pwned by Blizzard.
If he really loved them he’d stop making them! More like he loves defiling everything we like.
Why dont you try to get into porn, dude… no one watches your movies for the content. I’d rather be jacking off that watching your stuff. If you made porn, I’d still jack off, but I may watch your crap while doing it.
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:38 pm
All I have to say is this - Even I, a foaming mad monkey up in a tree that loves cheese and p***y could do a better job directing movies than Boll.
I don’t know what crack he smokes, but:
1) His comments prove he is compensating a shortfall with his ego.
2)The comment about downloading movies is bulls**t. Last I heard, if somebody tried to download his crap the computer will puke up its hard drive and try to kill you with it.
3)If Blizzard told you to go f**k off, maybe this is a sign for you to sit the f**k down and shut the f**k up Boll?
So thank [fill in your deity here or leave blank if you are an atheist] that Blizzard has some intelligence to avoid this closet basehead.
April 23rd, 2008 at 5:09 am
“To be honest, the real gamers are the typical download guys, right? They don’t pay anything for movies, because they illegally download the movies. So why I should please these guys?”
LOL, and now that Boll got owned so hard he’s bitching back at the gamers he was going to try and make a quick buck out of by trading off the popularity of WOW?
Haha Boll, you got owned! And stay the f!ck away from the Metal Gear movie, idiot!
April 23rd, 2008 at 11:20 am
“Germany apologize for Uwe !!!”
If they apologize for Uwe, then we’d have to apologize for Chuck Norris. LOL
I don’t think that’s a good idea.
April 23rd, 2008 at 3:59 pm
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1159482/
Wow, bloodrayne 3, courtesy of Uwe Boll. Really? How does this keep happening?
April 23rd, 2008 at 4:54 pm
I’ve seen a lot of crappy movies, but luckily managed to stay away from every piece of junk he has made. (well, had Alone in the Dark on DVD once, but managed to return it before actually putting it in my DVDplayer…)
Uwe Boll is the kind of director that can make a movie about pong featuring Golden Globe-winning actors, the writers of just about every blockbuster of the last 75 years, a budget that surpasses that of Terminator 3 and still makes you long for the original game because it had a better story.
April 24th, 2008 at 5:50 am
Get over yourself Uwe. I can’t think of anyone who’d download any of your movies, you talentless hack. I wouldn’t download them if iTunes PAID me for it. As for gamer geeks illegally downloading movies..ohyeah. Definately. That would explain the 14 collector editions of Lord of the Rings in the average fantasy geek’s room. Yeah.. they never buy anything, that’s why the collectible market is SO struggling, only making hundreds of millions a year..
I suggest you pull your head out of your rear end, and find another line of work. Directing isn’t one of your talents. I’m not sure what is, but it’s not directing. I can’t even beleive MTV game him Airtime. I know they’re desperate for any ratings lately, but please.. an interview with UWE?!? That’s like an interview with Joe Murphy, the guy at the Deli counter who served George Lucas a Roast Beef in 1984. Except Joe probably made a good sandwich.
April 24th, 2008 at 10:57 am
Postal is in fact a pretty cool movie, seems he can do over the top comedy okay. But WoW? nah….
April 25th, 2008 at 6:30 am
THANK GOD!
April 25th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
I like this post from a guy below,.
UWE BOLL I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY TO YOU!
“Get The Fcuk Out of the video game / movie adaptation business cause you definitely suck at it.”
Rofl!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:20 am
maybe i am one of the few, but i liked sword of the kings and a few other of his movies
April 26th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Nice to know I am a movie pirate. He must know he was going to make a bad movie no one wants to pay for.
April 27th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Haha. This is the exact opposite of what he has said in the past.
Quote from this article: “You go for it, to please the game fans, but on the other hand if you have the hard core gamers, they live in their own world. And you cannot fulfill their ideas from a video game based movie, it’s impossible,” Boll recently told MTV News.
Paraphrase of another quote of his: “We chose to do video game adaptions because video games are already a huge success, so the movies are easy to market. I have never played a video game. I’m doing adaptions for the business, not the love of games”
