Remember the last property you worshipped that was bastardized by Hollywood? Alright all of you irate “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” fans, sit down. Now to be fair, thus far most of what we’ve seen of “Iron Man” has gotten we, the die-hards, pretty pumped. Like how they’re using the armor from that first “Tales of Suspense” appearance?!? And the fact that they’re apparently setting up James Rhodes to don his own armor in a sequel? And what about those glimpses of Iron Monger?!?
Okay, sorry. Lost it for a second. But seriously, what do you think? We want to hear from you. It’s T-minus three weeks until “Iron Man” opens. What NEEDS to be in the flick? Hints of Tony Stark’s alcoholism? A cameo by Stan Lee? Some memorable quote or allusion that makes Iron Man the character and franchise you love? We’ll be taking the best comments to the cast, and it might even end up on MTV.
It’s now or never! Sound off. What damn well better be in “Iron Man” to make you, the loyal fan, happy?

The cast and crew is already spot on and, as a big fan of movie scores, Ramin Djawadi is a perfect choice. To have someone from Hans Zimmer's own studio Remote Control Productions score this movie is awesome. Djawadi, who works as TVs Prison Break composer, was also was an assistant to Han Zimmer (with James Newton Howard) in Batman Begins and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
The great Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect casting choice for Tony Stark because of exactly what Jon Favreau the director said, "The best and worst moments of Robert's life have been in the public eye," the director explained. "He had to find an inner balance to overcome obstacles that went far beyond his career. That's Tony Stark. Robert brings a depth that goes beyond a comic-book character who is having trouble in high school, or can't get the girl." (from the Iron Man film page in Wikipedia)
So that was what we needed and Jon Favreau chose the perfect choice for Tony Stark.
Since everything with this movie really looks incredible and too good to be true, all we need to do now is pray that it is exactly what we are all expecting and hoping for: a pretty damn kick ass movie. I think it needs to be as fun and exciting like the Spiderman movies (more like the first two) but have a bit of a serious and dark tone in Batman Begins.
Oh yeah, we also need to see Tony Stark as we see him in the comics - not only a genius, but someone that is truly not comparable to Iron Man in any way, like Bruce Wayne to Batman.
That's all and I know that what I said is probably already checked on their "What To Do" list by what I have seen so I think all we NEED is to see it to believe it.
So, unlike your article, I offer moviesblog.mtv.com and its readers a novel proposition: respond to my comment or in some manner offer an explanation (an apology is OK) for the content and purpose of this piece -- and in a manner that will be satisfactory to any reader here of reasonable intelligence -- or else I will simply never provide this site another "hit" again. I will check this site later for said response; in it's absence, I will avoid moviesblog.mtv.com for as long as I live. You can take my word to the bank (a note to the sponsors of this site: I mean that literally).
Sorry my post got you all out of sorts. We're just trying to have one last healthy geek-out about "Iron Man" before it's released. No one said anything about changing the film. As I wrote we just want to talk about what we we're hoping to see in the film and offering the chance to bring some of this to the cast/filmmakers when we chat them up (let them defend their decisions, that sort of thing). This isn't about corporate shilling or a pie in the sky belief that we can change a film that's been locked for some time. Just some good old conversation about a film many of us are quite curious about. Again, sorry that it got you so bent out of shape. Hope you'll keep coming back. Just leave the profanity behind next time.
Best,
Josh
I agree with everything you said EXCEPT for that little praise of the film's composer, Ramin Djawadi. The music heard in the clips so far is nothing more than generic rock music with synth orchestra, and IT SOUNDS LIKE CRAP! Did you know that most of the "composers" over at Hans Zimmer's studio are nothing more than music programmers (electronic synth music, btw) who don't know crap about writing music, let alone film scoring? Zimmer uses these underlings to write scores for him while he gets his name put in front as the main credit (although I will give Zimmer this, he does give his guys an "additional music" credit). The guys that work for him are basically slaves for hire, or ghostwriters. Zimmer, although a decent composer on his own, hasn't written a complete score on his own in a looong time, and it's sad. He's simply trying to monopolize the entire film scoring industry with his Remote Control "factory." It's an assembly line, and it's sad because composers now-a-days are starting to do as Zimmer does because it's easier, and you make can do more scores at one time, making you more money. That's why all of his, and his guys' music sounds exactly the same. And that's why (it appears) as though the Iron Man score sounds like generic Remote Control/Zimmer music but with rock guitars, drums, etc. Because of this, there will never be another composer like John Williams, so enjoy him while he lasts. The next generation of composers are almost all going to be molds of Zimmer. It's sad but true. Film scoring is no longer an art-form, but a way to simply make money for composers like Zimmer who produce scores off of an assembly line istead of writing it themselves.
Okay, Rant over!
Anyways, IRON MAN WILL KICK ASS!
I guess you're right about that but I still believe that Ramin Djawadi would, like John Powell, alumni of Remote Control Productions, branch out from the studio and make his own name in the composing business. I love his score on Prison Break and I think he has his own unique sound to his themes.
And I think with his studio, he gives the guys there a start in composing by learning what he did, so they could do their own stuff like what James Newton Howard, Steve Jablonsky and John Powell have done with their movie.
But you are right, there won't be another John Williams. I loved his legendary Star Wars score (ROTS, in my opinion is his best of the saga) and I can't wait for Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull!
But Hans Zimmer, i think is second only to Williams. His scores in Lion King, The Power of One, Batman Begins is legendary, and i also can't wait for The Dark Knight.
But back to Iron Man, What you said IronManfan now gives me second thoughts so let's just now pray for Ramin Djawadi to step up to the plate and give this movie a KICK ASS soundtrack!
Iron Man, you better kick Spidey's ass off his throne as Marvels greatest comic book movie hero!
