Both were mothers who, around the time of their thirtieth birthday, first imagined a fantasy franchise that would bring them fame, fortune, and a loyal fanbase. This winter, both will provide Hollywood with an eagerly-anticipated blockbuster.
So, when I was interviewing “Twilight” novelist Stephenie Meyer this week for the story that just went live over on MTV.com, I had to ask: Has she ever met J.K. Rowling?
“No,” the affable author revealed. “But I would love to; I would love to sit down and talk with her.”
Once Meyer’s first non-”Twilight” book, entitled “The Host,” arrives in bookstores May 6th the comparisons might dwindle a bit. But while both continue to rule the world of teen-lit, she understands that they’ll always be compared to one another.
“I can see that,” she explained. “The interesting thing about the comparison is that I think you can compare my fans to her fans more easily [than me to her]. I do think that we both have people who are just really really enthusiastic, and will come miles to see you and be involved, and everybody really cares about our characters. But the ['Harry Potter' and 'Twilight'] stories are just so different.”
“J.K. Rowling’s audience is everybody, so that means we all have a piece of her audience,” Meyer laughed. “It’s terribly flattering to be compared to her, but there’s never going to be another J.K. Rowling; that’s a phenomenon that’s not gonna happen again.”
Still, Meyer insisted that if she ever did meet the “Potter” mastermind, they’d have plenty to talk about. “I’d like to hear her thoughts on her fans; I know she has this big group of people who say ‘Oh no, Harry should have ended up with another girl,’ and I wonder how she feels about that when they think they have a better ending than she does,” the writer said sympathetically. “I’d also like to hear her thoughts on the movies, and what things about them she enjoyed, and how she feels about privacy and e-mails and fan letters and that whole experience as a popular writer.”
“We have a few things in common,” she laughed. “It would be fun to share that common ground.”
Stephenie Meyer or J.K. Rowling: Whose writing style do you prefer?

MUGGLENET.COM is where I got the link from. Why do people put this in the comments?
The stories are too different so it's hard to compare, and obviously J.K. is bigger than Stephenie Meyer, but they're classics (:
'cuz I can relate to her stories more
And Stephenie gives me the endings I want XD She's changed my life with her stories
cant wait till Fall. XD
P.S. I love the way that the H.P. series ends. I couldn't have imagined it any better.
It didnt grab my attention like the Twilight series did. I was hooked straight away.
I'm not saying the Harry Potter books are rubbish, I'm just saying, in my opinion, the Twilight series is better =]
But Robert Pattinson was in Harry Potter, and now he's in Twilight so thats cool too haha
I got this link at the Twilight Lexicon.
they both have uniquely amazing stories,
that are magical in different ways,
while i absolutely adore Potter, i also really love Bella and Edward. Though, Stephenie does seem really nice, Jo probably wouldn't have said something like that.
So far, I like HP better than Twilight series.. Really eagerly waiting 4 Breaking Dawn and Midnight Sun though.. They might change my opinion!! :)
End of the series is soooo Important!!!
But I love 'em both.. SM and JKR... they r really adorable and phenomenal women!!
I mean she has developed sooo many charecters and the entire potter series has sooo much in it..
Whereas Twilight just has Bella and Edward and a few other people and basically B&E's Love life!!
I mean, No 1 can ever develope characters like Lord Voldemort and Albus P.W.B. Dumbledore!!! let alone bunch of other HP ppl and concept of Hallows and Horcruxes!!!
But still, Twilight isn't bad!! HP and Twilight r totally diff that's it.. they shdn't b compared!!
P.S. - CANT WAIT TILL DECEMBER 12!!!
só tem americano aqui
:P
When are you going to post the Kristen & Robert interviews?!
That said, I really like Meyers stories quite a lot. If I was going to compare Rowling to an American author, it would probably be Anne Rice in her Heyday.
It's just that difference between standing in line to get to buy a Potter book at Midnight, verses knowing that the vampire story has a new edition and I'll put it on my list to get soon.
While it is understandable that Rowling needs a break from the Potter world, it is nice to have Meyer's upcoming releases to keep readers satiated (pun intended).
honestly, j.k. rowling is a much better other because she has so many more suprises in the plot
and in the twilight series you can tell whats going to happen, you can easily guess the ending
i sitll love stephenie though :)
And thanks for the link Twilight Lexicon!
not that Stephenie isn't a fantastic writer and storyteller, cause she is! (God, what would i do without Twilight?!) but there's no denying...Rowling is in a league of her own.
But then again I'm not much on romance, so my opinion probably isn't worth much. :P
YAY FOR BOTH OF 'EM! :D
I am so eager to see the interview with Robert and Kristen!. Larry your doing a Great job Keep it up!
dee
Don't get me wrong i like harry potter too but not much the author, though she too like steph is a talented author.
Twilight!
I was linked through twilightlexicon!
They're very both talented and creative writers and they have both created wonderful worlds about Wizardry and Vampires. But, the "Twilight" series are more about Love, Betrayal, Trust and all those other stuff meanwhile, the "Harry Potter" series are obviously more about Magic, Witches, Wizards, and Evil Wizards whose name cannot be spoken around. But, since Harry Potter series are about to end, I guess it's time for the Twilight Series to have their turn on the fame chair, don't you think? :)
Great Great Wondrous Job on S.M. and J.K.R., by the way. :)
I just want to say that JK Rowling is just brilliant, and I am totally obsessed with Harry Potter, but I love Twilight too. I hope they are not going to mess up the Twilight movies like they did with the HP ones..(1-4 are okay but 5..). As much as I love Stephenie Meyer, I agree with Sim that JK Rowling is a legacy. She's created such a phenomenon that not even Twilight (as much as I LOVE it so much) can eve n beat. It's been a series that's got major impact on this generation, and it's just reached so much fame and success that would be hard to put down, and it would be incredibly hard to surpass the level that JK had attained.
Then again, it would be unfair to say that JK is the better writer, because Stephenie is definitely fantastic as well. As a Twi-hard and Potterphile as well, I say that it is impossible to compare such books that are in completely different leagues. Just because they're fantasy and have attained a large following. I find it absurd to just even think about who's better, or which series are the most addictive since clearly, both have managed to create that kind of obsession and addiction in different ways.
Like Lola said, Stephenie was right that there's never going to be another JK, but there is never going to be another Stephenie as well.
There is no competition.
Its like TW series ignited like fire on alcohol while the HP took longer than that... IDK maybe its my imagination but I feel it was this way =)
BTW Stephenie Meyer ATW!
