Five years ago this June, stay-at-home mother Stephenie Meyer had a dream about a teenage girl and a vampire sitting in a meadow; this week, the bestselling author walked among those very fantastical beings.
MTV News has learned that Meyer shot a cameo this week for the upcoming “Twilight” movie, due in theaters December 12th. The American writer, whose subject matter and own personal triumphs are often compared to “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling, shot the scene alongside several of the film’s young stars, including Kellan Lutz as Emmett Cullen.
Several stars and crew members raved about Meyer’s afternoon on the set, and described her cameo as Hitchcock-esque. The legendary “Psycho” director made a habit of dropping into many of his films for blink-and-you’ll-miss-him cameos, often as an extra in crowd scenes.
Meyer’s cameo takes place at a diner, during a quiet moment. While the filmmakers wouldn’t confirm whether she has a line or not, the Alfred Hitchcock comparisons would seem to imply a silent “wink” to her sizeable fanbase.
“Twilight” continues to shoot in Portland, Orgeon, building towards a highly-anticipated release at the end of the year.

Steph rocks can't wait to see her in the movie!
This was meant to be a surprise for all the diehard fans out there!!
In fact, websites like the lex have known about it for weeks now! They just want to keep it as a surprise!
sure it's good stuff... but it really isn't your job to tell everyone.
Us twilight fans have made a reputation with Summit as diehard fans who want all the goss, yet we respect Summit's wishes...
leaking things like this isn't respect...
do i feel some jealousy brewing? i mean mtv did lose the movie before summit acquired it.....
Its still cool to know but I think that if Stephenie wanted everyone to know that she was doing a cameo, then she would have told everyone on her website. It would have been better if we were all sitting in our seats in the movie theater and happen to see Stephenie Meyers in the dinner, it would have been a major surprise and would make more people see it.
But I also feel content knowing that she does have a cameo, because now I will be able to look for her, whereas if I didn't know she had a cameo I may have missed her as I sometimes overlook things like that. Unless of course it's blatantly obvious and you can see her clear as day.
While I understand your initial comments, you should know a few things:
1) I'm currently on the "Twilight" set yesterday and today, on an official set visit approved by Summit, etc. They've given us awesome access.
2) During our interviews with Kellan and several others including a producer on the film, they openly volunteered the info on the cameo, knowing full well they were on camera. There was no intention on their part to hide this exciting cameo.
3) Much like Hitchcock used to do, they want people to keep their eyes peeled for Stephenie. While you guys might know what she looks like, news like this gives others one more reason to go see the movie in December.
4) This is MTV News. We report news, that's why it's in our name. And obviously, for "Twilight" fans, this is big news.
We'll be publishing tons more cool, exclusive stuff in the weeks and months to come. So please enjoy, and know that we're just as excited about "Twilight" as the rest of you. Now please, don't go kidnapping my dog or keying my car or anything.
either way, i agree that it was DEFINITELY not up to MTV to report this...but good for Stephenie! should be awesome!
While I UNDERSTAND your statement, it showed little love for the AUTHOR herself! SHE wanted to share this news, SHE wanted to be the ones to tell HER fans what she did. It was HER story to tell. While you spoke to the producer...did you speak to Stephenie and ask her? Sure there is going to be a big movie audience that will join the bandwagon. But this was a suprise for US. Her fans that have been with her from the begining. The fans who love her BOOK first and her movie second. You over stepped your bounds.
"MTV leaked what the Lexicon has known for weeks, was specifically asked NOT not mention, and was supposed to be a surprise for the fans when the movie came out."
Sounds like we weren't supposed to know.
No, last I looked this is MTV BLOG.
So my point is just how we don't like being stupidly categorized and get fristrated when people misunderstand or don't see our vision of the book, I'm sure the same goes for MTV; let's not by HYPOCRITES folks.
If that's the case, then I'll have fun looking out for her then. Some people may be so absorbed with the main characters that they probably wouldn't have noticed. Since the Lex knew for weeks, Summit probably didn't want it to be known THAT EARLY on, but I guess now they see how it would be advantageous, since the response to the movie is and has become so positive.
Anyways, guys don't hate me, but that's how I feel about it, let's all enjoy Twilight together and share the lovin and positivity (I don't think anyone's unworthy)
The Lexicon is not all knowing ladies and gentelmen..... think for yourself please!
GO MTV! Thanks for the info and keep up the good work!
i care dont care if you report news some news are not meant to be report it aka this one
This was meant to be a surprise for the fans and you ruined it at the end of the day and i really hope that you apologize to ms meyers!!!!
While I understand you are doing your job it doesn't make it right. It is odd that you were on set for two days and spoke to lots of people but NOT Stephenie, who from my understanding, was also on set. Also stating that Stephenie has a cameo in the film isn't going to make more people see this film. It is an exciting tidbit for those who know the literary works and love the author. It is like Stan Lee making an appearance in Spiderman. Anyone who isn't a fan of the comics probably isn't going to see the film because he has a cameo.
Not a lot of things have been a surprise for us, and you've actually just ruined one of the few surprises that we can look forward to. Also, it would have been nice to let Stephenie tell Twilight fans herself. I can't imagine how she feels about this, because I wouldn't be all too happy if I were her.
Thanks a lot.
Also, if you think I'm being dramatic about it... go check out the fan sites, my comment echoes a lot of sentiments from other fans about this news.
They stated themselves that they knew this for weeks. So what gives them the righ to know and no one else. I think that the sentence "MTV leaked what the Lexicon has known for weeks" was a low blow of their own. They made it sound like they are so priveleged to have known this fact for weeks while MTV has only just found out. Obviously if Summit hadn't wanted anyone to know then they wouldn't have told MTV. This will keep everyone very anxious and their toes watching for Steph when the movie finally releases.
And Meg...the diner scene in the book is the Port Angles scene when Edward takes Bella to eat something after he saves her from god knows what would have happened to her if the men in the alley had gotten to her.
that's kind of rude and inconsiderate.
lame freaking mtv.
go figures.
:/
Apparently Summit didn't intend for it to be a surprise! Sorry we were all upset at you for posting it! Can't wait to see Stephenie in the movie! Thanks!
