EXCLUSIVE: ‘Twilight’ Author Stephenie Meyer Shoots Movie Cameo

Stephenie MeyerFive years ago this June, stay-at-home mother Stephenie Meyer had a dream about a teenage girl and a vampire sitting in a meadow; this week, the bestselling author walked among those very fantastical beings.

MTV News has learned that Meyer shot a cameo this week for the upcoming “Twilight” movie, due in theaters December 12th. The American writer, whose subject matter and own personal triumphs are often compared to “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling, shot the scene alongside several of the film’s young stars, including Kellan Lutz as Emmett Cullen.

Several stars and crew members raved about Meyer’s afternoon on the set, and described her cameo as Hitchcock-esque. The legendary “Psycho” director made a habit of dropping into many of his films for blink-and-you’ll-miss-him cameos, often as an extra in crowd scenes.

Meyer’s cameo takes place at a diner, during a quiet moment. While the filmmakers wouldn’t confirm whether she has a line or not, the Alfred Hitchcock comparisons would seem to imply a silent “wink” to her sizeable fanbase.

“Twilight” continues to shoot in Portland, Orgeon, building towards a highly-anticipated release at the end of the year.

  1. That should be awesome! as long as they don't overdo it...
  2. IDIOTS!!! Steph should have gotten to announce this!!! NOT YOU!
  3. She probably wouldn't have announced and just let us see it for ourselves in the movie.
  4. THIS IS AWESOME!!! STEPHENIE MEYER IS INCREDIBLE. She has to be a part of the movie! I wonder what she'd be...
  5. Thanks for spoiling the surprise. But it's still pretty exciting.
  6. Way to report the news MTV!! Unlike SOME websites... we can always count on you :)
Steph rocks can't wait to see her in the movie!
  7. I agree with Sarah. This is Stephenie's news to tell. It was supposed to be a surprise for the fans. However, I am happy for Stephenie. Good luck on your film debut, SM!
  8. You guys are jerks. I can't believe you spoiled Stephenie's surprise. You seriously owe her an appology!
  9. Brilliant! I can't wait to see her in it!
  10. That's awesome! I can't wait to see it.
  11. DARN YOU PEOPLE!!! DON'T U KNOW WHEN TO KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUTS!!! U weren't suppose to leak that!!! People were suppose to be surprised when they go to see her on the screen! GAGH!!! IDIOTS!!!!!!!!
  12. Well Said Hannah! They do owe her an apology! There was a reason why the set was CLOSED. I hope your leak is proud of themselves. HOW UTTERLY PATHETIC!
  13. I'm waiting for an apology here!
This was meant to be a surprise for all the diehard fans out there!!
In fact, websites like the lex have known about it for weeks now! They just want to keep it as a surprise!
sure it's good stuff... but it really isn't your job to tell everyone.
Us twilight fans have made a reputation with Summit as diehard fans who want all the goss, yet we respect Summit's wishes...
leaking things like this isn't respect...

do i feel some jealousy brewing? i mean mtv did lose the movie before summit acquired it.....
  14. GAGH! U GUYS DON'T KNOW WHEN TOO KEEP YOUR BIG MOUTHS SHUT!!! That wasn't suppose to be leaked!!! People were suppose to go to the movies and be surprised to see their fav author on the screen!!! IDIOTS!!! No Thanks for ruining!!
  15. Totally ripped off the surprise. Way to go. That would have been one of the cool things to spot when people actually go see the movie.
  16. y'all are jerks. you weren't supposed to tell anyone!!! i can't believe you couldn't keep your mouths shut!!! it's not your news to tell us that, it's Stephenies big news not mtvs.
  17. MTV you shouldn't have announced this. I understand you want to jump on the Twilight bandwagon but your time has come and gone get over it. Ths was a surprise for the fans and you ruined it.
  18. How disappointing that you are that desperate for attention and have such little respect for Stephenie, Summit Ent, and the Twilight Die Hard to leak something like this. I'm not impressed with your decision and won't be checking out your websites anymore!
  19. I hate you, as much as we love to learn this, this was meant to be a nice surprise. Stop acting like reporting everything would mean we would be eternally grateful to you.
  20. Love all the news but it would have been nice if this announcement had been made by Stephenie herself or left as a surprise.
  21. You guys should not have announced this.
Its still cool to know but I think that if Stephenie wanted everyone to know that she was doing a cameo, then she would have told everyone on her website. It would have been better if we were all sitting in our seats in the movie theater and happen to see Stephenie Meyers in the dinner, it would have been a major surprise and would make more people see it.
  22. That's pretty awesome. I'm going to squeel. God this is getting so big...
  23. I do feel that it was unprofessional to spill the beans on Stephenie shooting a cameo, because as Lexicon states on their website...they were asked not to tell all of the fans.
But I also feel content knowing that she does have a cameo, because now I will be able to look for her, whereas if I didn't know she had a cameo I may have missed her as I sometimes overlook things like that. Unless of course it's blatantly obvious and you can see her clear as day.
  24. Hey folks,

While I understand your initial comments, you should know a few things:

    1) I'm currently on the "Twilight" set yesterday and today, on an official set visit approved by Summit, etc. They've given us awesome access.

    2) During our interviews with Kellan and several others including a producer on the film, they openly volunteered the info on the cameo, knowing full well they were on camera. There was no intention on their part to hide this exciting cameo.

    3) Much like Hitchcock used to do, they want people to keep their eyes peeled for Stephenie. While you guys might know what she looks like, news like this gives others one more reason to go see the movie in December.

    4) This is MTV News. We report news, that's why it's in our name. And obviously, for "Twilight" fans, this is big news.

We'll be publishing tons more cool, exclusive stuff in the weeks and months to come. So please enjoy, and know that we're just as excited about "Twilight" as the rest of you. Now please, don't go kidnapping my dog or keying my car or anything.
  25. I wonder if she's going to play the waitress when they do the restaurant scene at Port Angeles.
  26. ....where is there a diner in the book?

either way, i agree that it was DEFINITELY not up to MTV to report this...but good for Stephenie! should be awesome!
  27. Larry,

While I UNDERSTAND your statement, it showed little love for the AUTHOR herself! SHE wanted to share this news, SHE wanted to be the ones to tell HER fans what she did. It was HER story to tell. While you spoke to the producer...did you speak to Stephenie and ask her? Sure there is going to be a big movie audience that will join the bandwagon. But this was a suprise for US. Her fans that have been with her from the begining. The fans who love her BOOK first and her movie second. You over stepped your bounds.
  28. Yeah, this is really cool...but I agree with everyone else in that Stephanie, if she wanted to, should have announced it. IT says on the http://www.twilightlexiconblog.com/:

"MTV leaked what the Lexicon has known for weeks, was specifically asked NOT not mention, and was supposed to be a surprise for the fans when the movie came out."

Sounds like we weren't supposed to know.
  29. "This is MTV News. We report news, that’s why it’s in our name. And obviously, for “Twilight” fans, this is big news."

No, last I looked this is MTV BLOG.
  30. Sorry to comment again, but maybe it would have been nice if they had just posted a spoiler warning? On some sites, before showing links to movie pics and stuff they warn that it might spoil you. That way, the people who don't want to know things early don't have to, and the ones that do...can.
  31. Yeah Larry, I understand (a little harsh their guys, lol). Must suck getting flamed comment after comment (I know your intentions were good. People forget that MTV is made up of INDIVIDUALS; who says they can't enjoy the books too? As if they're soley in it for the glory and profit).

So my point is just how we don't like being stupidly categorized and get fristrated when people misunderstand or don't see our vision of the book, I'm sure the same goes for MTV; let's not by HYPOCRITES folks.

If that's the case, then I'll have fun looking out for her then. Some people may be so absorbed with the main characters that they probably wouldn't have noticed. Since the Lex knew for weeks, Summit probably didn't want it to be known THAT EARLY on, but I guess now they see how it would be advantageous, since the response to the movie is and has become so positive.

Anyways, guys don't hate me, but that's how I feel about it, let's all enjoy Twilight together and share the lovin and positivity (I don't think anyone's unworthy)
  32. OMG! This is so exciting!!!! I am SO HAPPY! But people, stop hating on MTV. She may not even have a line in the movie, and if she did it is probably just one or two. It's not the biggest thing ever....
  33. I think this will be a great movie. Zach think it will be fukk up. i dnt think so.
  34. I'm not sure if I should be mad at you guys for spoiling the suprise or if I should be happy.... But in away I new this was coming...xD
  35. People would have been excited about the announcement except for the fact that the 'high and mighties' over at the Lexicon got mad you leaked it and they didn't get to... they put up a nasty note about MTV leaking it and saying how wrong it was. If they didn't do that people would have been thrilled with this tidbit of information instead of beign nasty..
The Lexicon is not all knowing ladies and gentelmen..... think for yourself please!

GO MTV! Thanks for the info and keep up the good work!
  36. You had no right to do this!!! you should at least let ms meyers tell us first then you could have report it as you soo call it
i care dont care if you report news some news are not meant to be report it aka this one
This was meant to be a surprise for the fans and you ruined it at the end of the day and i really hope that you apologize to ms meyers!!!!
  37. Poor Larry...you walk such a fine line with fans. It seems like if Summit really didn't want us to know then maybe you shouldn't have said anything but then again if they didn't want us to know they probably would have taken more precautions with the media being on the set and making sure actors knew what they could and could not reveal. I hope Stephenie or Summit says something so that we can know their response and then we can better handle ours. Also, I hope the negative comments don't have any effect on future Twilight postings. Speaking of which can't you give us something more now that we know you've been on set a lot. Please. It might make some of us forgive and forget. :)
  38. I am very excited to hear that Stephenie will be in the movie and i am grateful for all the news you guys bring but however i don't feel that it was your place to be telling Stephenie's news especially since all of the other people that were told this info kept it a secret. Just because you learn something new does not mean that you should go around sharing it all. You should have went to Stephenie herself and see if she wanted you guys to share this news. But oh well. whats done is done. But please. No more spoilers like this.
  39. I feel it was inappropriate for you to have posted this information, which was clearly intended as a surprise for the fans. At the very least, you should have included a spoiler warning (like Meroko said). This isn't just information about the plot or how a character is going to be portrayed, it's something unexpected that would have made the very first viewing of the movie even more special. MTV, you took some of the delight out of it. I'll still enjoy Stephenie's cameo, but it won't be nearly as pleasantly surprising. Besides, since her role will probably be very minor, some people probably would have missed her, would later hear about her cameo, and then would want to see the movie again in order to see her....just saying.
  40. Man, I really wish I hadn't a found out about this. Why'd you leak MTV? :( It would have been such a great surprise, I would have screamed for sure. . . but now I'll know.
  41. Larry,
While I understand you are doing your job it doesn't make it right. It is odd that you were on set for two days and spoke to lots of people but NOT Stephenie, who from my understanding, was also on set. Also stating that Stephenie has a cameo in the film isn't going to make more people see this film. It is an exciting tidbit for those who know the literary works and love the author. It is like Stan Lee making an appearance in Spiderman. Anyone who isn't a fan of the comics probably isn't going to see the film because he has a cameo.
  42. way to ruin the surprise for everyone.
  43. If Summitt gave the ok to MTV and not the Lexicon, so be it. MTV is a bigger outlet than the lex and maybe Summitt was hoping by having MTV announce it, it would reach more people and cause more excitement. I'm a Lexiconer and I know I'm obsessively protective of the site, but we should be happy that we're getting so much info at all! Let's all just be happy that the story that we love so much is being made into a movie and the woman who's affected all our lives is a part of it! Lets be nice, gracious fans, and thank MTV for being so enthusiastic about this project, whether you agree with their intentions or not.
  44. I know you think you're doing people a favour by telling us about the cameo, but moreover a lot of Twilight fans think that you've done us a disservice.

Not a lot of things have been a surprise for us, and you've actually just ruined one of the few surprises that we can look forward to. Also, it would have been nice to let Stephenie tell Twilight fans herself. I can't imagine how she feels about this, because I wouldn't be all too happy if I were her.

    Thanks a lot.

Also, if you think I'm being dramatic about it... go check out the fan sites, my comment echoes a lot of sentiments from other fans about this news.
  45. I agree with Kim. I feel that if the Lexicon hadn't put the hater bug in the ears of most of the fans before they read this on their own, there would be a lot less animosity towards MTV.
They stated themselves that they knew this for weeks. So what gives them the righ to know and no one else. I think that the sentence "MTV leaked what the Lexicon has known for weeks" was a low blow of their own. They made it sound like they are so priveleged to have known this fact for weeks while MTV has only just found out. Obviously if Summit hadn't wanted anyone to know then they wouldn't have told MTV. This will keep everyone very anxious and their toes watching for Steph when the movie finally releases.
And Meg...the diner scene in the book is the Port Angles scene when Edward takes Bella to eat something after he saves her from god knows what would have happened to her if the men in the alley had gotten to her.
  46. if you were asked not to post this, why did you?
that's kind of rude and inconsiderate.
    lame freaking mtv.
    go figures.
  47. Very cool! I am even more psyched for the movie, I think Stephenie should have been the one to announce her cameo, not MTV! though im grateful for the inside scoop, you should have kept your mouths shut a while longer MTV!!
  48. This information is interesting, but you didn't have the right to give it out.
    :/
  49. "2) During our interviews with Kellan and several others including a producer on the film, they openly volunteered the info on the cameo, knowing full well they were on camera. There was no intention on their part to hide this exciting cameo."

Apparently Summit didn't intend for it to be a surprise! Sorry we were all upset at you for posting it! Can't wait to see Stephenie in the movie! Thanks!
  50. does the media or whatever have to publish EVERYTHING they hear?
