Wanted: One Good Blogger For The 2008 MTV Movie Awards…Submit Now!

Who says we don’t share the love around here at the MTV Movies Blog? We’re but a few short weeks from one of the holiest days of my year, June 1st — the MTV Movie Awards, and I’m looking for a like-minded film fanatic to join us as we descend upon Los Angeles and do it up as only MTV can. Are you a movie blogger, a fellow worshipper at the altar of film? Do you enjoy blogging about movie award shows? Have you blogged about the MTV Movie Awards in the past? I might have just the thing for you.

Here’s the deal. MTV has seen fit to allow me to choose one of you, our passionate and brilliant readers (always suck up to your audience, let that be a lesson to all bloggers), to accompany me and the MTV News gang to Los Angeles the week leading up to the MTV Movie Awards. You’ll be a part of all the anarchy and tenuously controlled chaos that goes into putting on the best movie awards show this side of the Oscars. Read more…

Ramsey The Intern Videoblogs His ‘Dark Knight’ Viral Event

Article by Ramsey Boeckholt

Hi everybody, my name is Ramsey and I’m an intern here at MTV News Los Angeles. Yesterday, we got a FedEx from The Joker himself, with a plastic mask and note inside! Naturally, I grabbed a Flip camera (as seen on Oprah!) and headed over to the Hollywood & Highland mall to see what kind of anarchy the Batman villain had planned.

When I got there, I found hundreds of Batman fans dying to learn what would happen when the timer on the website hit zero at exactly 5:30 pm. Many came with their faces painted, or even dressed up in full costume. The note said to show up early “if you want to act like a clown,” but after I put on my mask a security guard told us we had to take them off because of security concerns. Damn mall cops, always keeping the man down! Read more…

Uma Thurman Confesses to Kubrick’s ‘Wartime Lies’

Uma ThurmanThe other day we brought you news that Uma Thurman declined a role in “Lord of the Rings,” a choice she now says was a huge mistake.

But in her storied career of more than two decades, there is one project that trumps even J.R.R. Tolkien’s fabled legendarium in Thurman’s own personal game of career What if … what if she had gotten to work with Stanley Kubrick?

“I was going to make a film with him — for a long time I was scheduled to make a film with him,” she said of “Wartime Lies,” a movie she was signed on to make with Kubrick in the early 90s. “I was contracted to do it and things happened and he shelved the film. He never made the film.” Read more…

Hugh Jackman Looks Towards ‘Batman Begins’ For ‘Wolverine’ Inspiration, Talks Sequels

Hugh Jackman as WolverineAt the moment, you’re likely drooling with anticipation to watch “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk” and “The Dark Knight” over the next few months. Heck, maybe you’ll even go see “Punisher: War Zone.”

But once these thrills have come and gone, what comic book movies will come next? It’s a question we’re all dying to know, and vague promises of “Captain America” and “Thor” movies aren’t cutting it. So instead, we hold out hope for a new take on a familiar hero.

“It feels different,” Hugh Jackman told us recently about “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” which he’s currently shooting with eyes towards a May 2009 release. “But I don’t think its going be night and day.” Read more…

‘Twilight’ Fans Help Another MTV Staffer Get Hooked

'Twilight'The following is a message to the fans of “Twilight” from our colleague, Sabrina.

Dear Twilighters,

Like many of us here at MTV News, I’ve been alternately amused and baffled by the amount of attention all things “Twilight” have received since we first started covering the making of the movie. I’ve never been a hard-core fanatic of anything, not since I was a teenager, anyway. I read only the first third of the first “Harry Potter,” loved “Lord of the Rings” but didn’t go crazy over the movies, could take or leave most other novel series.

But something about your enthusiasm over the “Twilight” books got me curious. Maybe it’s the way you are always so grateful for coverage (and adoring of our own Larry Carroll). Maybe it was the way the discussion is always more about how the characters relate to each other than about details of mythology or costumes (not that those haven’t happened too). Anyway, after editing many of these articles, and reading many of your comments, it got the better of me. Read more…
