Common Says Future Of ‘JLA’ Up To The Fans

CommonAfter getting postponed for several months due to the Writer’s Strike, “Justice League of America” got more bad news last week when the film was denied necessary subsidies to shoot in Australia, calling into question whether or not the movie would ever get made at all.

It’s “blackest night” for the high-powered supers. Luckily for them, that’s just about the time when the Green Lantern usually steps in. Only now he’s asking for a little help…yours.

“I would love to say it will go through,” Common, who was cast as John Stewart, the Green Lantern, told MTV News of where he stood with “JLA.” “I pray and hope that it will. Keep speaking it for real and it’s gonna happen.”

A power greater than Superman? Than the Green Lantern’s ring? It belongs to us, Common insisted.

“All of us have the superhero in us,” he enthused as a rally cry.

When Common spoke to us in February, he called being associated with “Justice League” a blessing, particularly because John Stewart was one of the only black superheroes. Now he’s got another reason he hopes it goes forward, a reason a little closer to home.

“For me, my daughter on Halloween she played Wonder Woman. She was Wonder Woman,” Common smiled. “For her to see her dad up there [next to Wonder Woman] - it would be beautiful.”

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but according to Common, the ball’s in our court. Do you want “JLA” to continue? Sound off below.

  1. Hm...lets see....They have a model with zero acting talent or experience playing Wonder Woman, they have a 21 year old kid playing batman, they have Seth from the OC as The Flash, Whoever is playing Superman they aren't Brandon Routh or Tom Welling. Common is a great choice for John Stewart. He really is. But with the majority of the cast being THAT awful, do I REALLY want to see this justice league movie go forward? No. Not really. Sorry common, maybe they'll use you for a Green Lantern flick somewhere down the road.
  2. Sorry Common. But with the current casting, plot and director I don't want this movie to happen any time soon. Warner is making a huge mistake with this project. It has "train wreck" written all over it.
  3. I hope they delay this even longer and use Hal Jordon as the green latern he was the best 1.
i love the JLA but this film is gonna suck with this cast ! where are Brandon and Bail it needs continuity . i hope Mr Miller reads these .
I reckon the Ozzies are JLA fans and there thinking the same thing. thats the real reason it got canned
  4. Everyone said Tim Burton's Batman would suck. It was a hit. Everyone said Spiderman would suck. It was a hit. Everyone said the X-Men would suck. It was a hit. Even the Fantastic Four was a hit--look how much money it made.

You can't judge a book by its cover. Just because the JLA cast may have some weak past rolls, does that mean every single movie they ever do will suck? No. Is every movie that a director makes exactly the same quality? Not at all. Give 'em a chance.

Go Justice League! I hope the movie gets made. I'm sick of all this negative energy. It's just people being grumpy because JLA won't be a LOTR epic. You can't alway get your wish, people. Be thankful for what you can get, and don't be so judgemental!
  5. Sorry Common but Arnie Hammer as Batman= no ticket to see JLA. If it was Bale and Routh I'd be first in line, but it's not so I say no way jose! Besides wait for the inevitable sequel to the dark knight to come out before you plan a justice league movie, and how but the man of steel? it's just a little rushed!
  6. I may be in the minority here, but I actually do want a Justice League movie. I agree with every point Fedge made. You can't judge a movie when you haven't seen a single shot or even a single still from it.
  7. If they wanted a different continuity from the solo film and JLA, then they should have cast Tom Welling. Period.

If they had any balls, they'd even toss in Keaton also. Why try and force the general audience to accept new continuities when you already have other, well loved continuities laying around? It's Money, Money, Money in the bank! The HYPE! The fan FRENZY! A Welling/Keaton mashup of two existing continuities would be the the biggest thing to ever happen in superhero movies. My God, pure greed alone should drive the studio to do it!
  8. It's not ''JLA's'' fault that Bale is winy with Batman, and don't want to get ''marked'' in the role!
  9. Baby Batman?
    Tiny Latino Superman?
    Squint-eyed Wonder Woman?
    Fat Martian Manhunter?
    Mexican Aquaman?
    Beach Girl Talia?
    and finally ...
Jay "Pink Eye" Baruchel as the Mastermind villain?

    "Holy fermenting crap cast, Batman!"

The only good thing about this trainwreck is Common and the only borderline tolerable thing is Brody (and that's very iffy!)

Yeah, sorry Common. No f*n way does this crap get fan support.
  10. I SUPPORT THE JLA MOVIE! I WANNA SEE IT! I'M A FAN!
  11. No way. I will not support this JLA movie. We already have a Batman and Superman in solo movies and now we are going to have a separate Batman and Superman for this Justice League movie? And the cast for this movie is awful.

    Terrible idea!
  12. I think this movie would do great, considering the pressure they're having and the amount of actors with little experience. If it is to be made, then they know they have to double their efforts to satisfy the fans. So they have to pull something off to make sure this is the not the "train wreck" that fans are expecting.
  13. I want a JLA movie but not as has been reported. Common is the ONLY acceptable cast member I've seen. Everyone else is better suited for a Teen Titans movie. Warner Bros. needs to back the money truck up to Tom Welling's house to get him to play Superman -- whatever it takes! George Miller, if the rumors are to be believed, should not be allowed near this project. Supposedly his frame of reference for the JLA is the "Superfriends" cartoon from the 70s. Spare us, please!!!
  14. I've wanted to see this movie since I was 5 years old. Anyone who thinks it will "suck" because they aren't familiar with an unknown cast has no imagination. Unless you've watched the audition tapes or have seen the actors after months of beefed-up training, suited up in costume, then you don't know if they're right for the part. George Miller is a master filmmaker who discovered a young actor you may have heard of named Mel Gibson. This movie could do Spider-Man numbers. (I love the "supposedly" people, who base their predictions of quality on "rumors". Talk to me when you've actually read the script or seen the designs, sets or costumes. Better yet, wait until at least one actual frame of footage has been shot until you proclaim a movie will "suck".) I'm rooting for the Justice League.
  15. I'm not saying it will suck because of an unknown cast I'm saying it will suck because it has a cast filled with BAD ACTORS. I saw the baking soda boy (Armie Hammer) on his episode of desperate housewives and he SUCKED, I've seen the few acting projects that Megan Gale has tried to do in the past (sadly, I saw her bit part in "Stealth) and she SUCKED, Adam Brody is a decent actor, but he's EXACTLY the same in EVERY movie he's been in (and I've seen quite a few of his movies). There isn't anything wrong with that, but I REALLY don't want to see Wally West turn into Seth from the OC with super powers. Sorry. Common would make an awesome John Stewart, but he's the ONLY good actor out of the ENTIRE bunch. And don't go preaching to me about George Miller and how awesome the Mad Max movies are. I know, those movies are great, but Miller is WAY past his prime.

I'd like to see a JLA movie just as badly as the rest of you, but what I DON'T want to see is a HORRIBLE JLA movie that will ruin the chances of any of these characters getting individual films.
  16. No. Absolutly not!
  17. I agree with Aaron. Everyone is going to go see JLA bc they want to see Wonder Woman kick butt. And George Miller picks a model who has had NO acting training never performed except on a runway. PLEASE yes she is pretty but I want to see a real chic kick butt. Common I cant see you acting as Green Latern. Sorry George Miller chose the wrong actors to play these roles. Now you need Actress Sophia Martinez who knows how to act she coming up in the indie film world but its the George Millers who are stuck on stupid. Actress Sophia Martinez was the last one pick for Wonder Woman role.
  18. I want to see a move like this myself. However, this one feels SO rushed that I fear that it will crash at the box office. If that happens there might not be any more. The studio might not want to take the chance. They should have done it the way 'Marvel' is doing their's. Do the individuals first, and then bring them together. But a film like this should NOT be rushed. There's TOO much at stake.
  19. Sorry Common but you cannot act. This is just a career move for you. George get some real actors to perform JLA superheros. I agree with Aaron bad choice of cast. I dont want to see a model play Wonder Woman. Lets see Actress Sophia Martinez

perform Wonder Woman now she has all the qualifications and look to perform this role and Sophia has performed with numerous ensembles. Gee Wizz George please recast JLA.
  20. I Would like the CONFIRMATION of this cast.

Only Common and Megan Gale REALLY SAID ''Yeah, I'm on de JLA movie as...''

It can end up with this actos being completelly different characters. The script is awesome. The director is awesome. Isn't that enough?
  21. I think that we do need to give the lesser known actors here a chance to prove themselves. Remember, practically nobody had ever heard of Christopher Reeve prior to his acceptance of the role of Superman.
  22. And Christopher Reeve was of course a squint-eyed, fat, tiny, Mexican Latino, beach girl, but still managed to be a great Superman!
So, what are you people complaining about? Some of you Neanderthals act like you want actors to look like their roles or something.
    .
Stop your harsh judgemental crazy talk, because casting actors completely wrong for their roles is where it's at baby! It's hip! It's what's down with all the kids these days. Nobody does that square "casting appropriately for the role" thing anymore dude!
    .
All the cool kids these days are clamoring for hideous casting and you're just too lame to know it!
  23. "the company line", Sarcasm isn't gonna get you that job in the movie biz you always wanted. "squint-eyed, fat, tiny, Mexican Latino, beach girl" are just descriptors for actors(but it also sounds like something I would date). If I say, Tall, handsome, blue eyed, square jawed, Cristopher Reeve impersonator, that still doesn't make Brandon Routh a good Superman, or Superman Returns a good movie. I know acting like you know how X or Z franchise makes you feel like you "own" something, that you are "defending" something, but also be ready to shove up your words, like in some of the examples Fedge presented. Movies with "NAME" actors(Daredevil, Catwoman, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and, say, Batman and Robin) often phail. Come to think of it, most succesfull ones start like this: with unknowns, spite of fans, and the glimmer of hope in one visionary's eye.The tale springs eternal, I guess...
  24. You can see two of the actors that didn't get parts in the Justice League movie in Live Free or Die Hard. And they were pretty good too, good enough that I was impressed by their performance. Now I figure if they were not good enough to win parts in this movie, then just maybe the actors that were selected showed something that was worth looking at. And I have said it before and I;ll say it again, how many great actors gave their first performance at a very young age and didn't suck. Ok, how about Jack Nicholson for just one example. The only reason this movie sucks is because a small handful of Internet Bog site writers and editors keep feeding propoganda to readers and the readers believe it. Alex Billington at FirstShowing.Net comes to mind. These guys write biased, opinionated spins on gossip they hear from people that are in no way connected to the film or the company making the film and readers eat it up as fact. ITS NOT, IT'S CRAP! This movie only sucks because people like Billingtom say it does, and a small handful of fans jump on the bandwagon with them. I personally am buying 23 tickets for family and friends to the movie and have a party planned for that night and I'm proud to be able to say that I was a fan on day one when the Justice League first appeared in a comic book.
  25. Major newspapers like the New York Times have commented on the astounding miscasting uproar on Justice League. The last issue of Entertainment Weekly featured an article on the awful casting of Justice League.
If studio plants want to act like major newspapers and professional journalists are just internet cranks to ignore, then they're only cutting their own throat.
  26. Dah! The only difference between Proffesional journalists and internet cranks is the former get paid and laid. And how can they comment on NEARLY ENTIRELY RUMORED CASTS?
  27. Well the only way that argument works is if the rumored cast isn't the real one. So, the studio is going to reveal an entirely different cast?
    Hooray!
Newspapers happy! Fans happy! Journalists happy! Internet commenters happy! All joyous at the big reveal of the ENTIRELY NEW CAST.
Do it Warners! Flush the crap rumored cast and get this trainwreck back on track.
    It's what everybody wants.
  28. I hope that they do make this movie and I don't a damn what anyone says! it's great when they have fresh new faces to play comic book heroes in movies, everyone thought Brandon Routh would suck but he did a great performance as supes same thing with spider-man and alot of people thought will smith was not a good choice for "i am legend" because he was to young for the role but he pulled it off so if the cast is so bad then you should guys should try an' play those characters, can't judge people from the looks
  29. what the hell is wrong with you people! you read what he said! he said if the fans say they want this movie to happen then it will but all you people are $%%@#@~ up the dream! all you negetive dwebs out there should be ashamed of yourselvs, you people grew up weith JLA for God's sakes! and I totally agree with f you and I realy want see a JLA movie, been waiting since 01 when the new animated show came on, that was a good-ass cartoon and new frontier was cool too so why be so negetive about this film,
  30. ever super hero monvie with males in it has been good i think there afraid about the female super heros after catwoman
  31. I agree w/AWESOME INDEED. Get it back on track and George cast Sophia M. Martinez for Wonder Woman/Princess Diane role the young lady can perform.

  32. I have been craving a JLA flick for years now. I am not a fan of the cast, but I am a fan of the League. I will see it, and I want it...reguardless. I do think it would have been best to do the solo flicks first, then they could all meet in a Superman sequal, and form the JLA. Then move into the JLA flick. I think all of the DC flicks will be hits, as long as they stay with the action and effects. I do think an older cast would make more sense. Lucy Lawless as WW, Routh and Bale, etc. Just my opinion, but I will be first in line for a ticket anyhow.
