Dr. Doom couldn’t do it. The Silver Surfer couldn’t either. Galactus, destroyer of worlds and devourer of planets? Never stood a chance. Nearly fifty years of adventures, and not one villain could ever put a permanent end to Reed Richards, Sue Storm, and the first family of crime-fighting.
Now they’re ready to hang it up based on a little negative criticism?
“I’m pretty sure we won’t do [another] one,” insisted “Fantastic Four” star Chris Evans, who excelled in two films as the Human Torch. “I’m assuming that one is a closed book.”
What gives? In recent months, both Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis have expressed a strong desire to come back for “FF3,” each one even going so far as to offer up a preferred storyline.
Sure, Franklin Richards or The Puppet Master would be cool. It’s not the storylines that worries Evans, he insists, it’s the fact that they have to offer it up the storylines at all, he told MTV News.
“After the first one was released we got wind of potential titles and plots [almost immediately], and I’ve heard nothing from anyone at Fox [yet],” he grumbled. “We had all planned on doing [another] one but if there were going to be a third I think a week after the second one was released we would have heard.”
It might be for the best. When we spoke with Evans in June, he acknowledged the failings of the first two movies, but said he still thought the franchise’s “potential has not been reached.”
“I still think this can be something great, and I think we are getting closer,” he said at the time. “”I think that if ["FF2"] does ok and people respond with the appreciation of a more serious tone, hopefully [with] the third one we can inch closer to a legitimate cast and a legitimate film.”
Now Evans — who will next be seen with Keanu Reeves in the cop drama “Street Kings” — is singing a different tune, confessing that he’s “ready to walk away” from the role that made him a household name.
“It takes up a lot of time. It’s a big commitment,” he said. “I’m happy with walking away.”
Still, Evans confessed that he does want to leave the door a little ajar, citing Marvel’s recent success with character cross-pollination. If “Spider-Man” or “Hulk” came to him with a cameo, he’s be the first on board.
“Absolutely,” he enthused. “If Johnny Storm wanted to make a pop in appearance in one of those movies that would be a treat.”
What do you make of Evans’ revelations? Are you holding out hope for another “Fantastic Four”? Or, like me, do you think they’re just, well, a little too silly. Good news or bad news – FLAME ON!

This article, however, was not fantastic. Evans speaks like a 4 year old crack monkey.
If a comic is popular enough to make a movie out of it, the story must be pretty good to start with.
Don't jack with it.
Nuff said.
If they offered him enough for a legitimate film, he'd jump on it. He's just being painfully realistic about the possibility of that happening after two turds in a row. Don't crucify him for saying what we were all saying in forums.
He's a young guy. He reads the same stuff we all thought.
1) Jessica Alba: Worst cast ever. Can't act.
2) Dr. Doom was lame in #1. DR. DOOM, people.
3) Thing was okay, but underutilized.
4) Richards was a clown.
5) At least Johnny Storm was cool.
Ya gotta luv that. Stan get these guys a good script and keep em comin with a new DIRECTOR !
One thing for certian; Doom is wrong; he's cast wrong, his origin is wrong & therefore his motivation is wrong.
Chris Evans is actually wrong too....I think the idea should come from the fans; Who knows better than them (us)?
As for the story line; you could we've in a few guests; Why not have the Black Panther & the Sub Mariner....(wasn't Doom dropped into the ocean at the end of FF-2???? Didn't Doom & Namor have a LONG & intertwined relationship?) From there you could also bring in Magneto and the X Men (or a couple of them...)
Why not Franklin Richards...and Annihilus and Blastaar.....And then maybe the She Hulk or Iron Man?
There are so many ways to go with this group...and the ideas are endless! In reality, you've got more to work with here than Spider Man, The X Men, The Hulk, or Iron MAn combined...
A real 'Family" of Heroes....saving the universe and trying to have normal lives at the same time...(Kinda like Hollywood!)
Hope to see the third one 2005/2007/...2009/10 ?
as said Rick upper, "...comics, especially Stan and Jack’s run, to realize this lighter-hearted mood in the movie followed the original comic very well."
If Evans speak too much to reporters, let just Ben handle this for us. There is nothing to add.. at this time HE is the torch.
particularly with the dr doom character
wasn't he from latveria and injured in an accident and blames reed for it ?
the guy who plays doom is hopeless and the stupid metal skin stuff juts annoys me
i thought he had an iron man like suit of armor ( imagine the possibilities ) ? what happened to that film choice ??
the comics were amazing , they should stick to what lee and kirby did all those years ago and just use that as the storyboard
a classic i would use is 'and a blind man shall lead them' - where daredevil helps the ff get their powers back and defeat doom
now that's what i call an action movie !
half the time the directors have never read a comic book and just don't appreciate the genius that lies in them
But doing a third film prbebly isn't the best idea, bc for starters at the very end of the first film it did dr. doom with his eyes open so you could guess there would be a second one. But at the end of the second it didn't do anything.
I think all the roles were fine, I think they needed to concentrate more on Reed's character. Yes..Johnny Storm is fans' favorite, but Reed's intelligence really needs a chance to shine above the other three. I think they pegged Dr. Doom just fine, I love Julian in the Charmed series. I mean the end of the first movie was pretty much perfect, Doom kicking their asses and Reed finally thinking of a way to defeat him. That's always how it has been in the comics. I would love to see Doom come back again (cause we all know he always seems to come back) and be a villain against Iron Man in a future Iron Man movie. (Cause Doom is always wanting to steal Stark's technology) Heck...Doom fought almost every marvel character out there at one point. They should make a super villain movie all about a villain. That would be a twist...and Doom would be a perfect canidate. (Magneto doesnt count cause he's not actually a "villain")
