‘Fantastic Four 3’ Probably Not Happening, Reveals Chris Evans

Chris EvansDr. Doom couldn’t do it. The Silver Surfer couldn’t either. Galactus, destroyer of worlds and devourer of planets? Never stood a chance. Nearly fifty years of adventures, and not one villain could ever put a permanent end to Reed Richards, Sue Storm, and the first family of crime-fighting.

Now they’re ready to hang it up based on a little negative criticism?

“I’m pretty sure we won’t do [another] one,” insisted “Fantastic Four” star Chris Evans, who excelled in two films as the Human Torch. “I’m assuming that one is a closed book.”

What gives? In recent months, both Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis have expressed a strong desire to come back for “FF3,” each one even going so far as to offer up a preferred storyline.

Sure, Franklin Richards or The Puppet Master would be cool. It’s not the storylines that worries Evans, he insists, it’s the fact that they have to offer it up the storylines at all, he told MTV News.

“After the first one was released we got wind of potential titles and plots [almost immediately], and I’ve heard nothing from anyone at Fox [yet],” he grumbled. “We had all planned on doing [another] one but if there were going to be a third I think a week after the second one was released we would have heard.”

It might be for the best. When we spoke with Evans in June, he acknowledged the failings of the first two movies, but said he still thought the franchise’s “potential has not been reached.”
“I still think this can be something great, and I think we are getting closer,” he said at the time. “”I think that if ["FF2"] does ok and people respond with the appreciation of a more serious tone, hopefully [with] the third one we can inch closer to a legitimate cast and a legitimate film.”

Now Evans — who will next be seen with Keanu Reeves in the cop drama “Street Kings” — is singing a different tune, confessing that he’s “ready to walk away” from the role that made him a household name.

“It takes up a lot of time. It’s a big commitment,” he said. “I’m happy with walking away.”

Still, Evans confessed that he does want to leave the door a little ajar, citing Marvel’s recent success with character cross-pollination. If “Spider-Man” or “Hulk” came to him with a cameo, he’s be the first on board.

“Absolutely,” he enthused. “If Johnny Storm wanted to make a pop in appearance in one of those movies that would be a treat.”

What do you make of Evans’ revelations? Are you holding out hope for another “Fantastic Four”? Or, like me, do you think they’re just, well, a little too silly. Good news or bad news – FLAME ON!

  1. i think this would be a smart move for him showing that he can act in different genres especially being in a movie with keanu but the ff franchise needs what marvel likes to call with a reboot the cast was fine but when u have a director who is know for barbershop movies that is what spelled disaster for this family of superhereos
  2. First two movies kinda sucked, reveals Jonathan.
  3. I think people have been way too hard on the FF movies. Sure, they were no masterpieces, but they were light-hearted and fun to watch. They were also a way to see some more classic comic book characters on the big screen. I for one am sad that there won't be a third.
  4. As a long-time fan of the FF, I was happy with the movies. I understand what is always lost in the transferral from books to film. Given that, the move still worked well for the FF movies. It seems one of the recurring complaints is the lack of serious tone. You only have to go back and read the comics, especially Stan and Jack's run, to realize this lighter-hearted mood in the movie followed the original comic very well. I hope there will be an FF3!
  5. Personally I used to read all the comic books and when they statrted to become movies I was thrilled. If FF3 doesnt come out because of Financial issues that sucks but understandable. If FF3 doesn't come out because Evans wants to be a @*#?#, that pisses me off. I didn't even think he was a decent actor till he became the human torche. He should realize its an honor to be portraying one of Americas Favorite Superheros and do another movie. Grow UP, Grow A PAIR, and Do the movie; if not for you then for the Fantastic Four Fans.
  6. the movies sucked cuz alba is horrible in the role
  7. it kinda makes Evans look like he has loyalties only unto himself. cause, The FF franchise was his big break reguardless, the ticket sales. This could end up biting him in the ass one day, those cameos might not happen. it's still his decision, and ought to be respected.

  8. The Fantastic Four movies were great. It wouldn't be hard to replace Evans. Just do a storyline where he plays a minimal role and is flamed in every scene.

This article, however, was not fantastic. Evans speaks like a 4 year old crack monkey.
  9. Fantastic Four (Part 3) should NEVER be made unless new writers and a new director take over!! The first 2 movies were a horrible mess of convoluted story lines and bad acting!!
  10. The movies were let down my Julian McMahon - the guy couldn't act if lessons from Stanislavsky were tattooed on his @**@#..
  11. Fantastic Four (Part 3)can work if u get new writers and a new director to take over. Look at Hulk, The frist one they suck, now they made a new one with new writers and director. The new movie of the Incredible Hulk the Trailers & Clips look great but the frist one was no good. you can do the samething. Now what do you think?
  12. The first two movies had potential, but the deviated from the comics too much. That never goes over well with the fans.

If a comic is popular enough to make a movie out of it, the story must be pretty good to start with.

    Don't jack with it.

    Nuff said.
  13. Okay, I saw the first Fantastic Four when it came out in theatres and I never saw the need to see the second one and from what I heard I saved my 10 bucks by not doing so. Everyone was so wooden in there acting except Chris Evans that he stood out to me and he was the only character that I actually carried about. Everyone elses acting was on par with a high school production of Romeo and Juliet. And then there's the stories. I can't talk bad about he 2nd but the first movie didn't know what it wanted to be. Did it want to be an action movie, did it want to be a character drama, did it want to be a tale of acceptance? They needed to figure out what the message and essence of the movie should have been and went from there. It whole thing was on par with Daredevil, Elektra, and GhostRider - the lame ducks of marvel movies. And for Chris Evans to want to get out while he can is a smart move cause a 3rd FF would suck unless by some mircle of god it actually had a good script and a good director.
  14. i thank ff3 should be done with a dif- director.
  15. I'd like to see an FF3 if they give it to a director other than the lame Tim STory and put some action in it for a change.
  16. the films need a better director. the cast could easily be replaced. chris evans is not a household name.
  17. I think a lot of you are reading this wrong. chris evans didnt said he wouldnt return, just that he hasnt heard anything. usually with big budget franchises you heard about the sequel right away. he's also admiting that both FF could have been better, and that ff2 was a step in the right direction, but still has some ways to go (which i agree 100%) So yeah, if they do one, cool, if they dont, then he said he's okay with that. plus he even said he would be excited to reprise the role in a cameo for any different superhero movies.. what more do you want?
  18. i think ff3 would be great. the first two were brill i loved watching them. so yeah FLAME-ON!
  19. C'mon, the guys is saying what we all think. Give him a break.

If they offered him enough for a legitimate film, he'd jump on it. He's just being painfully realistic about the possibility of that happening after two turds in a row. Don't crucify him for saying what we were all saying in forums.

He's a young guy. He reads the same stuff we all thought.

    1) Jessica Alba: Worst cast ever. Can't act.

    2) Dr. Doom was lame in #1. DR. DOOM, people.

    3) Thing was okay, but underutilized.

    4) Richards was a clown.

    5) At least Johnny Storm was cool.
  20. I think the guy has a good head on his shoulders. He's starting to make good decisions "now" in his career; while also choosing much better roles, and he knows that he doesn't need to depend on the "Fantastic Four" films. I also think the FF franchise--like the "Hulk"--should get a "reboot", including a new cast, new director and new writers. I'm DOWN for it.
  21. I thought Chris Evans did a better job in Cellular. Alba's movies haven't been doing so good anyways. It's all been down hill for her since Honey. The only good break she had was her small part in Sin City. That was only because of the more skillful actors that contributed to it and the director.
  22. I liked the first two Fantastic Four movies thought they were fun. Yesh they could have been better but they were entertaining. I don't know if Evans plans on coming back if a third is made but im sure he will. I like the cast as is. Does this remind any one of when Emma watson said something about the Harry Potter movies and every one thought she was quitting the role of Hermonie. Lets not make a big deal over nothing.
  23. I don't know, I kinda liked the first two Fantastic Four films, and I was prepared to hate them both. I watched them with no expectations whatsoever, and they're just kind of fun films, nothing too heavy. I hope they do make a third, I'd watch it.
  24. I WANT MORE THE CAST IS GREAT THE FF were true to their FLAVOR......light hearted and fun and fighting crime......I mean common. Damn I JUST BOUGHT THIS TUX FLAME ON!

Ya gotta luv that. Stan get these guys a good script and keep em comin with a new DIRECTOR !
  25. I liked the first movie, though it should have had a liiittttllleee bit more action. The second was good, though i hated the attitude of Invisible Woman and i hated her wig and her contacts! Sorry Julian i really feel you need to get cut it's just not working for me. Yeah totally have the Puppet master that it was leading to, and get a better script and don't make it look soooo obvious with the dumb scenes (reed dancing in the club, that was unnecessary and it looked fake) that are supposed to appeal to kids. I'd say create more of a fantasy building and have more of a comic book version secretary than that Star Trek hologram. I like Tim Story i think he really got it and I'm trying to understand why everyone is complaining about the acting. that's how they acted in the comics and cartoon (johnny's was the most different but well done adaption). sue's attitude has got to go. i think if they focus on the villian it'll work b/c like the superman movie i wasn't impressed with the powers in the sequel like i should have been. to see sue standing on an invisible disk should have been great but it didn't do anything for me. So focus on the villians and just show more stuff. i think it can work!
  26. They should DEFINITELY make a 3rd Fantastic Four...and the first two had many stong points! The most important thing is that the four main characters are RIGHT ON. I've been collecting the comic as long as I remember and I can tell you,the writers and the actors nailed it (doesn't matter that Johnny is blonde, or Sue is more like Jessic aAlba than Sue Storm/Richards.

One thing for certian; Doom is wrong; he's cast wrong, his origin is wrong & therefore his motivation is wrong.

Chris Evans is actually wrong too....I think the idea should come from the fans; Who knows better than them (us)?

As for the story line; you could we've in a few guests; Why not have the Black Panther & the Sub Mariner....(wasn't Doom dropped into the ocean at the end of FF-2???? Didn't Doom & Namor have a LONG & intertwined relationship?) From there you could also bring in Magneto and the X Men (or a couple of them...)

Why not Franklin Richards...and Annihilus and Blastaar.....And then maybe the She Hulk or Iron Man?

There are so many ways to go with this group...and the ideas are endless! In reality, you've got more to work with here than Spider Man, The X Men, The Hulk, or Iron MAn combined...
A real 'Family" of Heroes....saving the universe and trying to have normal lives at the same time...(Kinda like Hollywood!)
  27. The first two movies weren't brilliant, but c'mon people. They were fun. Personally, I enjoyed how they didn't explore the darker side like Spidey or Hulk. It was just an old fashioned super hero comic extravaganza that I could sit for 90 minutes and enjoy. They weren't too serious, but they weren't so corny that I couldn't get into them.
  28. ok look i feel that most of you people could take it a bit easier of the actors( first of all they are the actors and you are not for a reason) right? I loved the movies And Hope for many more. Everyone of yall can get off jessica alba's back cause every one of you guys and most likly all of you females would love to even share at least a seat next to her...(Haters...) If they really sucked in the movies as much as you all say then why were they chosen for the roles and not you or someone betrer? everyone of you bashing punks couldnt do a better job acting if your lifes depended on it and I also See alot of people who need to really think about what they say your showing alot of ENVY towards alba she's one of the finest females on the planet and you all know it hating on other people whom you dont really know shows what you wish you could be like and you bash them cause they are and your not...
  29. I LOVED BOTH OF THEM!!!! AND I WISH A THIRD WOULD BE IN THE MAKINGS!!!!
  30. Come on everyone! I thought the FF movies were great! They weren't real serious, but they weren't campy either. It wasn't like watching Batman and Robin, which sucked! FF movies were just plain fun! I hope they do make a FF3! I will be there to watch if they do!
  31. PLEASE DONT READ THIS!!! U WILL GET KISSED AT THE NEAREST POSSIBLE FRIDAY BY THE LOVE OF UR LIFE HOWEVER IF U DONT PPOST THIS ON AT LEAST THREE VIDEOS U WILL DIE IN 2 DAYS NOW THAT UV STARTED READIN DONT SPOT NOW. THIS IS SO SCARY SEND THIS TO AT LEAST 5 VIDEOS IN143 MINUTES AND UR CRUSHES NAMES WILL APPEAR ON THE SCREEN IN BIG LETTERS THIS IS SO SCARY CAUSE IT ACTUALLY WORKS
  32. I personally liked both FF movies. I would like to see another one made. I hate when they replace the cast its not the same and I hardly watch the movies that they have done that. I think they all did a considerably well job of becoming those characters. I really hope to see another FF movie soon.
  33. i agree 100% with the comment from I love Fantastic Four.
  34. i agree 100% with the comment from I love Fantastic Four. usually when they change the characters from a movie to make the contiination of the movie it usually SUCKS
  35. the 1st 1 wasn't that good but fun to watch the super heroes on the big screen, the 2nd 1 was much better and a lil more action and especially with the silver surfer making it to the big screen. I say go for the 3rd 1 but definately with different writers and producers and a must return with the silver surfer with much better battles.
  36. There is nothing wrong with both fantastic four movies. The cast is simply perfect, Jessica's acting is gorgeous and every character fit the idea I had about Fantastic Four. Even the first movie, yes.
Hope to see the third one 2005/2007/...2009/10 ?

as said Rick upper, "...comics, especially Stan and Jack’s run, to realize this lighter-hearted mood in the movie followed the original comic very well."

If Evans speak too much to reporters, let just Ben handle this for us. There is nothing to add.. at this time HE is the torch.
  37. Look people the problem with most of these Super hero movies is they kill the villian off way to early in the series of movies.I'm 53 read all the Super hero Comics. And the first Hulk if they went by the original first comic series would have had scripts forever like most of these Super Hero Movies.Who ever heard of the Joker or the Penguin dieing.Or Doc Oct or Green Goblin???? The more villians you kill off,the less likely you can have scripts written,I don't understand why Stan Lee does not let them go by his old comics he published in the old days.I know there are allot of younger people out there wondering what I'm talking about but if you look at the old Hulk or spiderman comics there not the same as the movies although Spiderman is closer to the comic.Fantastic four is not like the comic and they had a chance to really do something with The Silver Sufer and the Destroyer and Barron Von Doom no they kill them off !!!!! I wonder sometimes where these scriptwriters get there brains from.Hope they learn soon.I hope they don't Screwup the new Superman or Batman.
  38. STOP BEING SO MEAN TO FANTASTIC FOUR! DAMN, AS extra's we think there should be a fanfour three with Franklin and occulus. FAN4 is scoobalicious!
  39. i think the main reason they were such disasters is they deviated too much from the comics
particularly with the dr doom character
wasn't he from latveria and injured in an accident and blames reed for it ?

the guy who plays doom is hopeless and the stupid metal skin stuff juts annoys me

i thought he had an iron man like suit of armor ( imagine the possibilities ) ? what happened to that film choice ??
the comics were amazing , they should stick to what lee and kirby did all those years ago and just use that as the storyboard

a classic i would use is 'and a blind man shall lead them' - where daredevil helps the ff get their powers back and defeat doom

now that's what i call an action movie !

half the time the directors have never read a comic book and just don't appreciate the genius that lies in them
  40. FF1 and FF2 were both really great movies i look forward to seeing a FF3
  41. the first two movies veered away from the original books to make them more realistic to movie goers. and as far as the director, what qualified spidermans director ,evil dead? or ironmans director. swingers? zathura? does anubody even know what the new hulk movie director has done in the past?
  42. ok people look im a fan i might not read the whole comics but i got the idea of whre this family come from and all. i liked the movies a lot. and i dont give a ?#@* what people say about them. they can just ?#@* off. i thought theye were creative i mean they are fun to watch and i enjoy the action although it needed a lil bit more . but i mean i liked them better than spiderman or batman because those movies go too serious. THEY SHOULD MAKE THE THIRD ONE, i know iw ill be watching it more than once.
  43. There's going to be a third film but with another major character.
  44. I am quite a big fan of the movies i think they are cool.
But doing a third film prbebly isn't the best idea, bc for starters at the very end of the first film it did dr. doom with his eyes open so you could guess there would be a second one. But at the end of the second it didn't do anything.
  45. This SUCKS!! who cares what critics think. think about the fans who want another Fantastic Four!!!
  46. I would love to see another one! I really enjoyed the 1st two a lot! People need to lighten up! Come on it's based off a comic book. Just sit back and enjoy the fact you don't have to read! I love the actors and characters. It was a fun movie to watch! Make another!!!!
  47. Who cares what other people think. I enjoyed the fantastic four movies. Yes they weren't up to X-Men, Spiderman and some of the other more darker action pack marvel movies, but this one was more of a family film. A feel good movie with heroes. If you dont like the ff movies than don't go see the third one(if ever made). As far as Tim Story directing the ff's, every director as a different point of view. You say he is an awful director and yet you couldn't do a better job. Hell, even if it was done by some awsome director yall would still b*tch about the acting was wrong, they didnt use the villian you wanted, Sue Storms eyes were the wrong shade of blue. Who gives a d@mn. Tim Story did the best he could and im pleased with that. I like his view point on the characters. It gives uniqueness from the other marvel movies.
  48. I thought the movie were entertaining, which is what a movie is supposed to be. It might not be an emmy winner or global globe award material, but it has drama, comedy, and action.
I think all the roles were fine, I think they needed to concentrate more on Reed's character. Yes..Johnny Storm is fans' favorite, but Reed's intelligence really needs a chance to shine above the other three. I think they pegged Dr. Doom just fine, I love Julian in the Charmed series. I mean the end of the first movie was pretty much perfect, Doom kicking their asses and Reed finally thinking of a way to defeat him. That's always how it has been in the comics. I would love to see Doom come back again (cause we all know he always seems to come back) and be a villain against Iron Man in a future Iron Man movie. (Cause Doom is always wanting to steal Stark's technology) Heck...Doom fought almost every marvel character out there at one point. They should make a super villain movie all about a villain. That would be a twist...and Doom would be a perfect canidate. (Magneto doesnt count cause he's not actually a "villain")
  49. Tim Story and Mark Frost single handedly screwed the Fantastic Four franchise. The first film was OK but not by much. But FF2 was horrible; obviously Tim did not respect the many years of source material contained in the comic books. The successful comics to film adaptations all have a common thread. The recent super hero films Spiderman, Xmen, Iron Man, Hulk, new Batman, and new Superman all respected the source material. The arrogance of Tim Story would not allow him to consult the huge fan base or the plethora of source material. The only redeeming part of FF2 was adding the voice of Laurence Fishburne to the Silver Surfer. Obviously Tim Story has no skill for this type of movie genre. Tim, please do me a favor spend your time at what you do well; make another "Barbershop" movie instead.
  50. come on people the two movies where wicked and i hope they make a ff3 chris evans dont leave jessica alba is hot :)
