Which Classic ‘G.I. Joe’ Vehicles Will Make The Hollywood Transition?

H.I.S.S. Tank (courtesy of YoJoe.com)If you haven’t already, you should probably read my interview with Hasbro chieftain Brian Goldner. As the Executive Producer on Stephen Sommers’ upcoming “G.I. Joe” action flick, it’s Goldner that knows the inside skinny on Hollywood’s take on the fan-favorite franchise. So it was a blast for me — a huge fan of the Marvel comics — to get an extended chat with the toymaker’s new CEO to discuss the secrets of “G.I. Joe.”

My article (read it here) reveals that the film will focus on the comics (yay), will largely portray the rise of Cobra Commander, and that it’ll still have a healthy dose of patriotism, among other tidbits. But one of the more interesting items that didn’t make the article was whether the movie would feature some of G.I. Joe’s impressive range of armored vehicles.

As someone who grew up owning dozens of the toy line’s tanks, aircraft and buggies (but sadly no aircraft carrier), I excitedly asked Goldner point-blank whether we’d see something like the H.I.S.S. Tank make its way to the big screen. The answer? Kinda…

“G.I. Joe has always been about being a little bit out in front of technology,” Goldner replied. “[We've always showed] where the US military might be in ten years. [So] if you imagine where the US military probably is in terms of technology we probably don’t know about, [that's what] we’re sort of going to show you that on the screen.”

So with that in mind, Goldner confirmed to me that while you probably shouldn’t show up at the theater expecting to see vehicles like Rolling Thunder, there’s a very good chance that we’ll see some classic vehicles in their more nascent form.

Time will tell what winds up making final cut, but here’s hoping those amazing toys from our childhood get their due.

Which of the G.I. Joe vehicles would you want to see in the movie? Chime in below!

I’d love to see the Joes driving a Hammer, which is simply a beefed-up $%##%@. And Cobra could use Ferret 4-Wheelers and not look far-fetched. Skystrikers and Rattlers are a little out-of-date, though. =(

Let’s just hope the vehicles aren’t neon-green like they were in the 90’s. =P
