‘Twilight’ Co-Star Rachelle Lefevre Talks Treetop Controversy

Rachelle LefevreIf it’s possible to create a riot in cyberspace, “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart may have done just that a few weeks ago, mentioning a scene in the upcoming movie in which “[Robert Pattinson as Edward] throws me over his back, right before he’s going to tell me that he’s a vampire, and then he runs over the treetops.”

Some 1,600 comments later, the debate rages on, over whether the scene strays too far from the book’s depiction. Naturally, when we landed the first-ever on-set “Twilight” interview with Stewart’s co-star Rachelle Lefevre, we had to get her thoughts on whether those treetops would be tweaking “Twilight” too much.

“There’s a scene where Edward reveals to Bella that he is a vampire, and he doesn’t just reveal that he’s a vampire, he reveals all that that encompasses,” Lefevre said of the script. “It’s almost a demonstration, and I think that scene is going to be amazing.”

The actress, who plays the vampire Victoria in the flick, added that the cast has spent the past few weeks training for such stunts. “I haven’t seen all of the stunts specifically, but I did see a setup of that while I was doing my wire work,” she revealed. “I would imagine that [Stewart's statement] is exactly what they are going to do.

“They’re talking like it’s really going to happen,” Lefevre added. “We did a rehearsal at one point where [director] Catherine [Hardwicke] was like, ‘They went up in the tree, but we’re not doing that today.’ I think we are really doing that.”

Before you post your comments below, Lefevre wants you to consider that the treetop-running thing does happen at other times in the “Twilight” series, even if not in the moment when Edward reveals himself.

“I think that there is a scene where a character ends up in a treetop in the book,” she explained. “I don’t want to say who, but there are treetop scenes in the book. But there are also things that are described in the book — the stunts that we are going to be doing, as far as I understand it, are very accurate to what’s in the book.

“You want to put as much action and excitement into the movie as possible,” Lefevre said of the controversy. “So sometimes things get heightened.”

So, twi-hards: What do you think?

  1. THIS IS THE TREE SCENE:
IN ECLIPSE DURING THE FIGHT SCENE WITH EDWARD AND VICTORIA, THERE IS A MOMENT WHEN EDWARD PUSHES OFF OF THE TREES AND PROJECTS HIMSELF TOWARDS BELLA BECAUSE SHE HAS THE ROCK IN HER HAND LIKE SHE IS GOING TO STAB HERSELF. THAT IS WHEN SETH (THE WEREWOLF) WAS ACTING LIKE HE WAS HURT AND BELLA DIDN'T KNOW. IT ALL LEFT BELLA OPEN FOR AN ATTACK FROM VICTORIA AND THE OTHER VAMPIRE (CODY?) SO EDWARD HAD TO PUSH OFF OF THE TREETOPS TO ACCELERATE FAST ENOUGH TO GET TO HER SO SHE WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING CRAZY.

    THERE YOU GO.
  2. The thing is, people are freaking out not because of one little thing, its because pretty much all we have heard from the movie is something that never happened, so of course people are going to freak out, your telling us that its going to be really close to the book and so far it doesn't seem like thats the case.
  3. I don't care if they run through the tops of the trees, the movie is allowed some embellishment, but I am going to be so disappointed if he just reveals to her that he is a vampire, rather than her figuring it out, because that definitely takes away from her inquisitive character if he just tells her and she doesn't figure it out for herself. The scene where he reveals himself in the sunlight is just further proof, and lets her know why he can't go out in the sun, it is NOT when he tells her about being a vampire. LET BELLA FIGURE IT OUT HERSELF!
  4. well, she said that in the book someone is in a treetop. uh she does realize this article was sort of written toward major twilight fans, doesnt she ? so if there WAS a scene like that in the book, we would know. and um, well, there isnt. thats all im saying. no where in the book is anyone in a treetop. honestly.
and i dont think im liking the whole "edward reveals himself as a vampre and what he can do" thing. i mean... thats just not the way it happens. they never like fully say that. its just understodd. they both know it, anf they both know that the other knows they know. if that made snse to anyone. i mean sure he does stuff later, but she already knows. its just sort of understood.
so he does stuff, but its not like hes proving anything. idk i just dont know if im going to like that very much.
  5. im not sure if my last comment posted, so here i am again.
the only thing that makes me like, ANGRY is this:
"Before you post your comments below, Lefevre wants you to consider that the treetop-running thing does happen at other times in the “Twilight” series, even if not in the moment when Edward reveals himself.
“I think that there is a scene where a character ends up in a treetop in the book,” she explained. “I don’t want to say who, but there are treetop scenes in the book."

okay the thing that gets me is that obviously this article was written toward twilight fans. if there was a scene like that in the books, we wouold know. but the fact of the matter is, is that there ISNT. thats the only part that really just aggravates me. yes im worried that my perfect twilight could be ruined if strayed too far, or that i wont like it, because i WANT to like it. but im just worried. ill have to wait and see. the thing that makes me post is that this actress says theres a scene like this. and there just isnt. the only tree tops mentioned is when edward comes through bellas window, but thats not a tree top SCENE. and the only other thing i can thnk of is in NEW MOON, not twilight, when jacob swings himself in through the window. but really, thats not what shes saying. no where in any of the three books is anyone running through treetops. it just doesnt happen. it just bothers me that she would be so insistent, when shes just dead wrong. honestly it doesnt even makes sense to me WHY they would go on the treetops to run, but WHATEVER. this totally isnt the time for that battle.
  6. I am so exited about this mivie but i actually agree with vera, if they cut out the part in Port Angels and the part in which Jocob tells Bella the story about the Cullens being some of the cold ones then they are changing the story and it will just not be the twilight that we all know and love!!!!!
  7. Okay I have read and re-read the twilight series numerous times. And there is no scene where they are "tree-hopping". In the book it says he runs. Not flys not hoopping trees but actually running...just at extremely fast speeds. I know that if they alter the movie to much from the book I will be upset. Cause to me the movie should be slightly like what I pictured in my head as I read the book it will be like it is coming alive. I can't wait for the movie to come out.
  8. ok, lets get this straight people! there was never a scene with a person in a treetop and why do they have to make the movie as exciting as possible?!?!?!?!?! its a romance book and its already exciting enough, you dont have to put stuff in there that isnt really there! DONT BUTCHER TWILIGHT!!! stephenie, dont let them!
  9. he doesn't tell her, she tells him she figured it out, and thats driving back from port angeles after saving her
  10. he doesn't tell her, she tells him she figured it out, and thats driving back from port angeles after saving her and they NEVER go on treetops, they go through the forest running AFTER they go to the meadow hidaway
  11. Maybe the treetop thing is Edward (or really any other vampire in the film. Let's use dear, sweet Edward as an example) running at high speeds (like we all know they can), jumping up on branches, showing both vampire agility, balance, awesomeness... It would stray from the book, correct, but perhaps it embellishes, not rewrites their abilities. I highly doubt they would go so far as the change them so they have the ability to fly. Mind reading? Fine. Emotion manipuliation? Cool. Flying? Heaven forbid.
  12. okay, i've read the twilight series about 6 times now, i i NEVER recall ANYONE ever running on tree tops, and if Edward reveals himself in the "tree-top" scence does this mean that him and bella never go on that date, and also the inccident with bella and thoses guys never occuring? :(
  13. i think the tree top scene is cool but that part where edward reveals himself is a very important part of the twilight series i dont think they should go TOOO much over the top or itll take away from the speacial thing that made twilight so great
  14. i love the twilight book....i hope the movie is as good as the books
  15. Well... I mean, You guy's DO have to make the movie intresting, and as upsetting as it is to think about it... you can't do EVERYTHING in the book exactly as is... Still... There are "In the Tree" times, but not when Edwards revealing his secret... I can see though, how that will be a dramatic part... and it does excite me!
I'm very interested to see how this movie plays out... I do hope that there's great care taken in to making it... more... eh... well.. not one of those short, poor attempts to make money... I hope that the STORY is played out well... and that it IS followed by the book as best as possible!
As far as the actors chosen, I think now that I'm getting a better perspective of the cast, that they have been chosen wisely! ... I do hope the best for this movie! it's looking good so far!

  16. i think that doing this stunt is going to be really cool. i mean it does happen in the book why not do it??and why are people so against it its not their doing anything wrong. im so exited i cant wait for the movie or the 4th book. i hate that i have to wait.so far i like all the actors only that i imagened alice different. without a doubt this is going to be the greatest movie i cant wait XDXDXDXD!!!!!!
  17. I'm all for Rachelle playing Victoria, but did she even read the books? The only thing that Edward does in or to a tree is when he snaps off a limb in the meadow. Maybe she needs to re-read the series before she starts filming!
  18. Imagine how hard it would be to run at high speeds through a forest without hitting anything. Now imagine filming that. Unless the Cullens have a great network of bushwhacked paths running though the Forks forests, the treetops idea actually seems less dangerous (relatively, of course), more efficient, and easier to film.
  19. OMG!!!i CANT WAiT UNTiLL THE MOViE COMES OUT...i HOPE iTS AS GOOD AS THE BOOK iS!!iM SO EXCiTED ABOUT...EVERyONE TELLS ME iM COMPLETLy OBSESSED WiTH THE BOOKS...AND STARTiNG TO GET WiTH WAiTiNG FOR THE MOViE TO COME OUT!!
  20. I think that Miss Lefevre has the willingness and ability to play a great Victoria. Overall, the casting has been done pretty well. I can still complain, but I'm not the one making the movie...
  21. Ummm, i really love twilight, but you guys are very redundant and dont even seem to care about the article, or to read the vents of anyone else. if any one took the time, the responses would be down by a million. isn't this blog supposed to comment specifically on what Rachel said? i applaud those of you who did, and who refuse to be redundant, obnoxious twits like the apparent preteens who spend all of their time on here. there, i said what half the world was thinking. flame me now.
  22. "the stunts that we are going to be doing, as far as I understand it, are very accurate to what’s in the book."
Wait, so You haven't actually read the book? That seems to be the problem with so many movies that are based on books: no one creating the movie has read the book! I'm super excited for the movie, but I just hope it doesn't completely ruin the book.
  23. I think it all looks great so far- the cast, the set, everything. Even the Edward is started to grow on me. But they'd better find a PERFECT Jacob. GO TEAM WEREWOLF!!!!
  24. Oh boy. People, people everywhere, none of which support. I'm sure you guys are doing whatever you can to transform a great book into a great movie. I don't care how the actors and actresses look, as long as you've signed people who can act! Nothing like a little bad acting to ruin a plot, eh? I personally have never seen these actors but I'm confident they'll do their parts justice.
  25. Okay, so I think that we can all agree that there is not a scene in the books where Edward runs on top of the trees. That being said, the idea is not inconcievable for a vampire with super-human speed and strength. Has no one here ever watched Inuyasha? He very clearly runs through the tops of trees, a feat that I'm sure would be no problem for Edward. And Rachelle could've easily misinterpreted that, so people should lay off of her. I'm sure that the entire cast and crew are working very hard to provide Twilight fans with a movie that won't disappoint. We need to remember that this is a movie; the director is going to take some creative liberty. I for one completely support the cast, and producers. We, as fans, should be grateful that we're finally going to have a movie of the books that we all love so much, and that they are sticking pretty closely to the books. A treetop scene or two will not change the essence of Twilight in any way. As for the Port Angles scene, we're just going to have to wait and see. i know that both my sister and me will be watching it the day that it comes out. We're both very excited. And we definitely support everything that the cast and crew are doing. They're working hard, and people should lay off of their backs a little.
  26. Personally, I love the idea of the treetop scenes. It just makes the book that more exciting.

I'm not particularly pleased on most of the casting; however, I'm happy to see that Rachelle Lefevre was selected. I knew I have seen her before but I couldn't think of where..And then it hit me... She was on my favorite show when I was little. BIG WOLF ON CAMPUS! ^_^
Anyway, I'm sure she can knock this role out of the park.
    ------------------
RANDOM: Oh, and I almost drop dead of excitement once I found out Robert Pattinson is Edward. Can it be more perfect?!
    WOO! Cedric= Edward

  27. These idiots obviuously didn't read the books. No WHERE is it ever mentioned in the books that ANYONE is in a tree!
  28. ummm ok so not once in twilight or in any of the other books for that matter do Edward and Bella fly/run on/over/around/near the treetops...Edwad cannot fly...he can run...so he would be on the ground running with bella on his back...and unless they are planning to use midget trees then that scene would be a complete mistake. Seacondly, Edward never admits to Bella he is a vampire...she figures it out. Even when she does figure it out...he does not come out and say ok...im a vampire. He merely agrees with what she has guessed..Edward nor any of the Cullens/Hales say directly 'I/we am/are vampire(s). And thirdly...you cant tell tell us to not be angry and upset and what a crap job you guys are doing to this movie. No it will not ruin our love for the BOOK but it will cause K.O.S i promise you. This movie has already suffered enough damage when you started casting. The Cullens/Hales are vampires...beautiful creatures who mystify humans...i for one am no where close to mystified by any of the twilight cast. But then to twist Stephenie Meyer's work of perfection by adding things to the film that are not in the book is just murder!!! We(angry twilighters) have every right in the world to be angry with the directors...we are the ones paying to see this crap movie so it should live up to our visions...now i undderstand you cannot accomidate all however million visions of the book...but c'mon...you can do a better job than that.PLEASE. If you have any respect for the world that Stephenie has created...do NOT $~#@* this up.
  29. So I just read the book(ok maybe skimmed it). But there is no treetop thingy, so we can all just stop saying that there is not because we all figured that out by now. We should just be happy that there is going to be a Twilight movie. Like Ann sayed maybe it's just a special effects thing, so don't get your bras all in a bunch(assuming that your girls). The question that I have is who is going to play Jacob, because the way that Stephanie meuers wrote about him he sounded hot. So all i have to say is go Twilight!!
  30. ok people chill out on the whole tree top thing it not a bg deal...but i hope this movie sticks to the book as much as possible we dont want the "Eragon" fiasco happening again. All together i sooooo exticied about this movie, it might even be bigger than harry potter one day...who knows?
  31. movies gonna be awesome but
1-there is no tree tops scene in the books, edward runs on the ground.
2-i dont think they should have edward tell bella for the same reason that vera mentioned, but also it would make bella look kinda stupid, that she couldnt figure it out.
3-i love the casting but i think they should trim "Jasper's" hair and dye alices hair black, it would add points to my fellow "twi-hards"lol
    4-WHERE ARE THESE SIDES!?!?! I WANT THEM!!!plz post a link?plz?plzzz?
  32. I really don't have a problem with the scene. I love the books and I realize that sometimes they get changed up a bit in the movie making process. If the movie really did stay true to the book it would be like forever long so I am coming to terms that the book twilight and the movie just won't be the same. I think that everyone casted will do soo well and I am really excited for the movie. Thank you Stephanie for giving us such a wonderful series and Thank you to the movie company. I have to point out, as a twilight fanatic, there was never a tree top scene. Thats okay though, I can't wait to see it in the movie.
  33. well, im totally excited for the movie-and its only one scene that we know is changing so far. I think they'll do a great job. Robert and Kristen are going to do awesome
  34. Now you just called us Twi-hards to piss us off.
Rachel needs to stop acting like shes the hardcorest fan ever.
That NEVER happened in the book.
    Ever.
    This officially isnt Twilight.
its a random movie that i dont care about at all.
    and P.S:
    nobody likes the word Twi-hard.
Sounds like Quil's soulmate, a two year old, trying to pronounce "Try-hard".
  35. All I can say is...how are you people reading the script???? Where can I get a copy? Whether they are in trees, on trees, above trees...who cares? And leave poor Robert alone. Everyone has a different idea of what Edward would look like, and I doubt anyone would have thought of him, but he's a fantastic actor and I'm sure that he will do a fantastic job. I can't wait to see it, and someone please tell me how to get a copy of the script!
  36. I think if they're going to make the movie they should make it as close to the book as possible. There is no treetop scene. Didn't she read the book. I am also excited that the book is becoming a movie. I'm a huge fan. I read the series four times and am currently on my fifth run. I can't wait. :>
  37. I can't wait until the movie is released.I hope they at least do the book justice......and they will.
  38. im so excited with the cast. at first ill be honest and say i was skeptical but ive been putting it in my mind how they will look as a whole rather then individually and i figure thats what matters most because together they literaly are perfect. im so excited to see this movie and i just cant wait to see how it turns out.
  39. Face it, Robert Pattinson has a thing for trees.
  40. And Addy, have you ever heard of the term 'die-hard' fans? It's another way of saying that you are basically obsessed. You know everything and absolutely, positively love whatever it is you like.

    Die-hard = Twi-hard

It's a good thing. Chill; breathe.
  41. Addy you are being overdramatic, and a bit of a drama queen. No one said you had to see the movie, and quite frankly, I don't think anyone cares if you do. Rachel is an actress, she isn't paid to read books and memorize every single fact, she is paid to follow her script and do a darn good job at it.

And for future reference; speak for yourself. I happen to believe that Twi-hard is about the best name for us fans that I have ever heard of. And since you don't seem to grasp the concept of it, I'll lay it out for you.

Have you ever heard of the term 'die-hard' fans. It basically means you are obsessed with whatever and love everything about it. In our case, it's Twilight. So, what is the conclusion?

    Die-hard = Twi-hard.
  42. ahhhhhhhhh how mad, i just cannot wait till the film comes out. dammit the Americans are going to watch it before the Australians, lucky!, and Rachelle Lefevre will protray Victoria really well she is so pretty, what tree top scene:S. oh well humans do make mistakes, people shouldn't make a fuss about it. hope the film turns out really good.
  43. They always change the storyline around when they make a book into a movie. It's just HOW IT'S DONE.You all can moan all you want but something was gonna happen like this anyways.I mean in Harry Potter Dobby was suppose to be in the past 2 movies. But he wasn't.I do think it's highly unlikely they cut Jacob out entirely.WE know it won't be exactly the same as the book, but that doesn't mean it won't be a fantastic movie.
  44. NO! THERE ARE NO TREE TOPS IN THE BOOK! AND ITS MOST CERTAINTLY NOT WHEN EDWARD TELLS HER HES A VAMPIRE!!! PLEASE NO TREETOPS! PLEASE!!! IM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS MOVIE DONT RUIN IT MORE THAN U ALREADY HAVE!!!
  45. first off i have read the book more than 5 times and there are no "tree tops" and i have to say that this book is more than just a book to people, its a dream, and since this book had such an impact on people they will be expecting the movie to do the same, they expect to see what they dreamed of and what they imagined while reading the book, on that movie screen and by the looks of things it dosnt seem like thats going to happen.
  46. omgg. soooooo excited for the moviiee(L) i think it will get a lot of moneyy. more than the dumb hannah montana movie!! :P - my friends and i cant wait to see it!!!!! :D i LOVE the books... (L) -byee(L)
  47. Ok, so i've read the WHOLE SERIES five times already and working on my sixth time (obsessive I know). And there are no scenes at all involving tree tops... at all, haha. I think it's cool that they're doing a demonstration but don't lie about material in a book next time! Especially when there are hundreds of thousands of fans who are willing to correct you on that blatantly incorrect statement.
  48. I really REALLY wish they would stop calling us "Twi-Hards" Its beyond condescending. the truth is, most of the people in the twilight fandom (i will NEVER refer to myself as a Twi-Hard) are mature. The insane people will stick out, as happens in anything.
  49. no offense but i seriosly have not read in the book where there is a tree-top part, in all the 5 or so times i read the whole series.
but i really cant wait tilli vsn see the movie myself
  50. I am SO excited for the movie!!! Although, if I remember correctly the only "treetop" scene in the books was when Jacob climbed the tree outside of Bella's window when he was trying to apologize to her in New Moon. However, I am still totally psyched for the movie and I think its going to be wicked awesome! I can't wait!!!
