Hank Azaria Looks Towards ‘Treehouse Of Horror’ For Next ‘Simpsons’ Movie

Hank AzariaConsidering it was an adaptation of an 18-year-old television show, “The Simpsons Movie” has to be viewed as a somewhat surprising success. Given that success, though, it should be no surprise that they’re already working on a sequel.

“I think a fun format for the next ‘Simpsons’ movie would be a ‘Treehouse of Horror’ feature,” voice star Hank Azaria offered. “That might be fun. It’d be fun to do three fantasy or horror stories.”

Whether that’s the path the filmmakers ultimately go down remains to be seen, of course. But Azaria’s got another suggestion he feels much more adamantly about. Hank Azaria demands, well, more Hank Azaria.

“I would love to do more in the second than I got to do in the first one,” he said of his popular (but little seen in the movie) characters like Apu, Chief Wiggum and Moe the bartender. “Whenever my characters get fleshed out, it’s more fun for me.”

What do you think of Hank’s idea for an anthology movie? Would it still be a special event if it was broken into segments? Or would you prefer a whole new movie-length story? Sound off below.

I really would not want a Treehouse of Horror movie. I never really like the Treehouse of Horror episodes and a whole movie of them would be a waste I think. If the Simpsons are to make a big screen return, they need to focus on what the first movie did not: Springfield. As the article said many of Hank’s characters and other Springfield members barely appeared in the movie if only for a line or two. The Simpsons has richly developed an amazing community within the series and I’d love to see that in the film. The first film may have had Springfield’s “greatest threat”, it barely showed Springfield itself. Let the next film be love fest for Simpsons fans. And if they are going to have a villian at least spend time to develop him, instead of just randomly having him be bad and barely any screen time. Possibly make Burns the villain with a plan even better than permanently blocking the sun.

I do hope for a second film, but I don’t think a horror episode would be enough to sustain an entire feature length movie. There should be no themed based episodes. Something in it’s own purity like the first movie.

The problem with the Movie was it was way too dragged out and had too many lulls in it. There was no memorable beginning, middle, or ending. The Treehouse of Horror episodes have always been my absolute favorite. I do prefer the ones based on the classic movies and t.v. series though. The newer ones have felt very mailed in and most haven’t even been horror themed.

I think a Halloween release would push this one big time. And an anthology would be perfect for the theaters. I think the Simpsons’ are at their best in short spurts nowadays anyway. If they work it right it won’t even have to play out like the t.v. Treehouse episodes, where they jump from story to story. They can have an underlined story to join them all, much like the old horror anthology movies of the 80’s, like Creepshow, Cat’s Eye and Tales from the Darkside. This would be something amazing that I, a fan of the Simposons’ of yesteryear, would truly anticipate.
