Christina Applegate's die-hard fans know her as a dancer, singer, TV and movie actress, and acclaimed Broadway star. So, with a movie called "The Rocker" due in theaters this fall, they've been pummeling her with one question: Does she get to sing?
The flick is about a drummer, played by Rainn Wilson ("The Office"), who gets a chance at fame after many years and failed attempts banging the skins for musicians who went on to bigger things. As Robert “Fish” Fishman, Wilson becomes the drummer for his nephew’s high school band, A.D.D., and finally gets the chance to take on the life of a rock star.
Although the movie's got a music-centered plot, don't expect to see Applegate performing any songs. “I’m on the sidelines,” she explained. Applegate plays Wilson's love interest, who's also the mother of A.D.D.'s lead guitarist.
But Applegate says her fans aren't likely to get too bummed about not hearing her velvety vocals — they'll be too busy laughing at the sight of Dwight Schrute covering Def Leppard.
“There are a lot of big performance scenes with the '80s rock band," said the former Kelly Bundy. "I haven’t even seen those, so I look forward to that.”
In the immortal words of Bret Michaels, every cowboy sings a sad, sad song. But what kind of tune does an assistant regional manager sing? (Er, assistant to the regional manager ...) This fall, we'll find out.
