The last time most of you encountered Dolph Lundgren might have been when you were flipping by TBS on a lazy Saturday and Sylvester Stallone was telling a crowd of confused Russians, "If I can change and you can change...everybody can change!" That was poor Dolph grimacing in the corner of the ring there.
Anyway, Mr. Lundgren has soldiered on in his acting career since then and no that was not a conscious reference to "Universal Soldier" though even if it was, what of it?!? The other day I chatted with Dolph (how great is my job when I can write a sentence like that?) about his latest flick, a sword and sandels kind of throwback (it takes place in the year 35) called "The Final Inquiry." It's new to DVD and features the kind of box cover you'd expect Jim Caviezel to appear on. But there is Dolph alongside the likes of Max von Sydow (Lundgren told me they never actually worked together meaning the fabric of the space-time conitinuum has not been destroyed...yet) and F. Murray Abraham.
Dolph's no dummy. Way back when he got a Fulbright to attend M.I.T. Really! I didn't make that up. And when we chatted he seemed philosophical and content enough with his place in the filmmaking world. And no, to answer your question, he's not particularly intrigued by the new coming incarnations of "The Punisher" and "Masters of the Universe."
So if you really need your Dolph fix and who doesn't...get thee to a video store and check out "The Final Inquiry." That sounded more ominous than I meant it to.
