Samuel L. Jackson ‘Fury-ous’ Over ‘Iron Man’ Questions

Samuel L. JacksonThat Samuel L. Jackson will play Nick Fury for a cameo appearance in the upcoming “Iron Man” movie is just about the worst kept secret in comic-dom, somewhere just south of “Jeff Bridges will play Iron Monger” and just a little less obvious than “Iron Man will fly.”

Heck, super producer and Marvel movie mastermind Avi Arad himself let it slip to MTV News nearly seven months ago. As in, LAST July.

“The Sam thing was supposed to be the biggest secret of them all,” he told us then, clearly frustrated. “It’s amazing how it got out.” See? It’s right there! That makes it what we call “old news.” But if you think that also makes it undeniable, well, than you clearly have never met Samuel L. Jackson.

“I asked Avi Arad about that and he said he didn’t do that,” Jackson coyly responded when asked about what Arad told MTV about the Nick Fury cameo. “He told me he didn’t.”

It would all be endlessly frustrating, of course, if we didn’t, you know, have these things on video tape.

“Well [then] I am indeed Nick Fury,” Jackson finally admitted, officially confirming his role for the first time. “But I don’t know if I’m gonna be in ["Iron Man"] though.”

So you haven’t shot any scenes?

“I can’t tell you that!”

You won’t confirm?

“I won’t confirm!”

Head, meet brick wall. Brick wall, meet head.

But give Jackson credit – the man clearly knows how to keep a secret. Too bad he confirmed he’s Nick Fury (sucka!) What do you make of the Marvel cross-promotion? With all the comic movies coming out, would a “Nick Fury” full-length get you going? Sound off below.

You can skip to the end and leave a response.

That’s great news. I wonder if he’ll be making a cameo appearance for sure in the Incredible Hulk Movie? I’m thinking it’s likely.

From what I heard about the whole new “Marvel Movies” production company was the main reason was to do things like this.

Avi had said about a year ago that he would have loved to see Spiderman or the Fantastic Four show up in cameos in X-Men 3 during the Magneto attack. But because of Fox having X-Men and Sony having Spiderman that was impossible.

So you could be seeing Rob Downey show up in cameo’s as Tony Stark in other movies and almost definitely seeing Sam Jackson show up as Fury in a few before getting his own feature.

Its the crossover movies - its how they do comics and I think it would work great in movies too.

  3. The Judge Says:

Either Robert Downey or Ed Norton’s already confirmed that Iron Man’s making a brief guest spot in the Hulk movie.

Also, how ’bout Ryan Reynolds being Deadpool?

  4. continuity Says:

in all fairness he could be a good fury but continuity error much, i know they can decide on race who plays who but nick fury (like most early cartoon characters) is white

  5. Hughes the Hustler Says:

I saw Iron Man last night, and I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the Samuel L. Jackson cameo! As a true Marvel fan,I was excited by the thought of an Avenger’s movie, with BAD-ASS Sam Jackson as Nick Fury! Marvel definitely knows how to cast movies! I can’t wait for the new Hulk joint. I hope it’s better than that Ang Lee disaster!

on the race issue. in most cases i’d say it’s the personality and physique of the character that’s most important in casting. i may be wrong, but i think kingpin in the daredevil comic was white, but DAMN, i was pleased with that choice. The only problem i’d prolly have is if they make a green lantern and he’s white…i mean, yes. there were white green lanterns. but THE green lantern?

and i second hughes on the hulk hopes. the last one was epic fail…and i’m sad they claimed the comic frame technique for that one, cuz i was kinda hoping for it in a spidey. hulk was too serious for that style to work, but your friendly neighborhood spiderman in all his campy splendor could’ve pulled it off.

  7. Comic Illustrator Says:

Go to a comic book store and pick up a copy of any current Marvel book and you’ll probably see Sam Jackson as Nick Fury. Jackson was the basis for the new design of Nick Fury in the Marvel Ultimate universe (started in the early double-aughts).

Sam Jackson IS Nick Fury, Fury even said it during a discussion about who would play him in a movie.

  8. Jon Says:

Marvels cross-pollinating is awesome and can only make for better movies to come… i can’t wait to see what they do with this!!! Hulk will be great not a doubt in my mind and the Iron Man movie was amazing oooo and p.s. early marvel comics, Nick Fury is black. so they are going with the original and what he should be. good choice with Jackson i say.

Hasn’t anyone realised the next few steps? OK here’s the low down. Nick Fury appears at end of credits in Iron Man. Tony Stark appears in The Incredible Hulk! Nick Fury makes a Avengers comment? This is all a setup for a upcoming Avengers movie. All we need now is the setup for Captain America and Thor. Or are is this the new Avengers? If so then are we gonna see Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine? Or is this the original Avengers with Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Wasp and Giant Man? Put it all togethor the Avengers are coming and I for one am so excitied. DC should of thought of this years ago with Justice League! Combining characters from several movies to make one is a cash cow. The only problem is when actors want the spotlight and won’t share it with other famous actors. That’s where it can get icky and ruin a good movie. That’s my opinion but I can’t wait.
