Nearly a year after Warner Brothers announced their intention to make a biopic of outed CIA agent Valerie Plame, the identity of the actress who will play her has finally been leaked to the media – and you can only find it on MTV News.
“Nicole Kidman,” director Doug Liman revealed. “She’s perfect if you’ve ever met Valerie. Nicole was supposed to play Jane Smith in ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith.’ We owe a movie together! That’s an unrequited thing between me and an actor where I fell in love with them for a role and never get to consummate it.”
That Doug Liman himself is attached to the project is something of a surprise all by itself, but a perfect fit, the “Jumper” director said, based on his history working with [REDACTED]…his training in [REDACTED]…and, above all, his unique approach to the material - perhaps a necessity given that the Plame’s memoir, “Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House,” was heavily censored by the CIA.
Never mind that, Liman said, insisting that he’s found a way around any government objections.
“I have a really, really insane take on how to tell it. It’s so outrageous,” Liman enthused. “Ultimately, I’d be doing something no one has ever done before. Therefore it’s automatically appealing to me. I’m just starting to explore whether [what I have in mind] is even possible to do.”
Outrageous doesn’t even begin to cover it. Liman’s extraordinary use of [REDACTED]…And, best of all, it comes with the full support of Valerie, with whom the director has been having extensive talks, he said.
Pretty cool idea, right? What do you make of Liman’s approach? And what do you make of Nicole Kidman as Valerie Plame? And, finally, who would you cast as the other principles: Joe Wilson, Scooter Libby, Bob Novak, Dick Cheney, etc? Sound off below.

How about if Nicole Kidman shocked everybody & just played the role of wife & mother for a while. That would be the real breaking news.
February 12th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Why she has to play a mother or a wife? The world is so masculinism. A strong woman is so scary. Isn’t she?
February 12th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
Goodluck to Liman, here’s hopin he gets her….. must be hard to get Kidman; a friend of mine who works in the industry said that she’s still very much in demand.

Salma Hayek as Sibel Edmonds who WILL be a big part of this story when she’s heard more this coming year. This story is by NO means over yet!

Speaking of Redacted, I wonder if this will make as much money as that masterpiece?
February 13th, 2008 at 9:32 am
The real hero of the piece, of course, is Richard Armitage — the war critic within the Administration who actually leaked Plame’s status and got away with it completely! IIPA? What’s that?
And who will star as the mysterious “other CIA employee in the hallway” who Plame says suggested Wilson go on the trip? Plame can’t remember who it was, so this is a real casting challenge!
February 13th, 2008 at 9:44 am
I look forward to watching two hours of Nicole Kidman driving back and forth to CIA Headquarters.
February 13th, 2008 at 10:35 am
Is this movie going to explain how a super-duper secret-squirrel spy has her super-duper ambassador husband do op-ed pieces for The New York Times about his super-secret hush hush mission and then somehow gets “outed” from her super-duper secret-squirrel job and is then forced to plaster her super-duper secret covert face on every magazine cover?

BAAAAD choice! Nicole Kidman is the world’s most overrated actress. Breathy and blank stare does not equal actress. If he’s serious, he’s in for a bomb.
February 13th, 2008 at 11:11 am
Its a bomb already
February 13th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
This seems like a really good choice. Kidman is a hot mama, just like Valerie Plame! I can’t wait till this comes out — right in time for the November elections, I hope!!!YKAC

Nicole is actually perfect for the role.
There are other good actresses, but this one’s just a “Nicole” written all over it.
Just like Noah Baumbaugh’s “Margot at the Wedding”, Nicole was perfect.
February 13th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
I can’t agree more. Nicole should be the actress. I don’t get the overrated comments about Nicole. She is not overrated.
In fact it was the other way around with her movies. Her movies were made bad, but she hold her own side of the bargain — she acted with with versatility.

“Why she has to play a mother or a wife? The world is so masculinism. A strong woman is so scary. Isn’t she?”
A wife & mother in real life not a damn movie. That would be a real stretch for her.
She was perfect in Margot because Margot was a cold b*tch. Kidman always does her best work when playing that.
February 13th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Gee Katie…er sorry Kathy, do you know Nicole Kidman personally? Surely Ms Kidman can be an actress and a wife and mother, lots of mommies hold down full time jobs.
February 13th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
I love Nicole Kidman and will see any movie she is in! If it were me making the decision, I would also put Russel Crow in the movie.

Are you sure Liman was talking about WB’s Plame project because according to Variety neither him nor Kidman are attached:
“Studio is developing a drama about outed CIA agent Valerie Plame and her husband Ambassador Joseph Wilson based on her memoir “Fair Game.” While “Jumper” helmer Doug Liman reportedly said he’s planning to direct the film with Nicole Kidman in the lead, he hasn’t yet met with the studio and neither the director nor the star is attached.”

Kathy, Kidman played a wife and mother in Fur in 2006, she played a mother in Invasion in 2007, she played a mother in The Golden Compass in 2007, she played a mother and wife in Margot At The Wedding in 2007. If these recent roles have gone over your head, I believe that is your problem and maybe, if you read or listened to the news more, you will realise that Plame is a mother and wife.
February 14th, 2008 at 1:27 am
Great role for Nicole. Russell Crowe is her ideal leading man. Let’s hope it pans out, because this is perfect casting.
February 14th, 2008 at 5:27 am
Kidman will be great. Smart, determined and good looking, just like the real Plame. Who should play Libby?
I hope they do this for real, and get into the neocon group that faked the pre-war intel that hoaxed the American people to get behind the war.
And I hope they cover Sibel Edmonds (could be played by Eva Longoria or Salma Hayek). She was an FBI translator who says she heard wiretaps showing that a lot of these same neocons who fake the pre war intel and outed Plame were involved in an arms/drug money laundering group that also sold American nuclear secrets. More info here, or just google Sibel Edmonds:

Yes, Suzanne, lots of mommies hold down full time jobs. And it has nothing to do with the degradation of our society nor the delinquency of our youth. Nope, not one bit. We can eat our cake and have it too, and the world today is in fine shape!
February 14th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Having worked with Plame at CIA I am sure she is loving all this attention! This movie will have to have a lot of fiction written into it to be interesting and Nicole Kidman will have to really work at making it a good flick.
February 15th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
I don’t understand this hate thing for Nicole Kidman; maybe it’s because she is really very private about her private life, and I think is basically quite shy. I also think she wouldn’t be getting so many great roles if she couldn’t act. But maybe you people know her better than I do? i.e. personally????

I guess Barbara Feldon and Don Adams weren’t available…

Pleeeeze can we have Fred Thompson for the part of Karl Rove? It would be too perfect.
March 17th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Who ever this Ray Robinson is that is so down on both Wilson and Plame: I’d like to see you dedicate 25 years of your life to your country only to have your President trash all the work you have ever done because you disclosed his lies and deceit! But Nicole Kidmann would never have been my first choice. You need an unknown for this type of high profile role.
April 11th, 2008 at 3:43 am
Nicole Kidman? Is this movie being made for tax reasons because with Nicole Kidman it’s sure to be another flop: Bewitched; The Human Stain; Stepford Wives; The Invasion, Fur. Why would anybody cast a movie star that nobody wants to see anymore?!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Here we go with yet another poor widdle Plame extravaganza. This woman is a complete fameho, first she seeks book deals and speaking engagements for millions and then the Hollywood fools who drool at her feet give her a movie? Oh well suits them right for falling for her crap. This is going to be about as intersting as watching paint dry,all that fun fun fun paper pushing she did. The woman is a complete fraud. As for Nicole Kidman playing the role..why..was Julia Roberts,or Angelina Jolie not available?
