“Harry Potter” did it for wizards, “Lord of the Rings” won big for hobbits, and “Narnia” brought it home for the talking woodland creatures. But can a soon-to-shoot movie similarly turn the creaky film cliché of vampires into the next multimillion-dollar fantasy flick franchise?
“The movie is called ‘Twilight,’” 17-year-old “Into the Wild” actress Kristen Stewart beamed when we recently spoke to her. “['Lords of Dogtown' filmmaker] Catherine Hardwicke is directing it in Washington. It’s based on a book that’s pretty popular [among] young adult, high school kids.”
Although Stewart and co-star Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory!) will soon film only the first movie, they’re already talking about turning the vampire storyline into a series that really sucks. And since the latest book sold over 150,000 copies in its first day alone, Bella and Edward fans everywhere are already counting down the months until the film’s release.
“People really love these books,” said Stewart. “Right now it’s a trilogy, and a fourth book is coming out, so hopefully we’ll get to shoot all four.”
For those who haven’t yet been bitten, “Twilight” will feature Stewart as Bella Swan, a teenage girl whose life gets turned upside-down after she meets and falls in love with a vampire. Additional names will be cast in the next few weeks, but according to the actress, 21-year-old Pattinson is already sinking his teeth into the role of Edward.
“He’s so good and he’s so soulful and he’s just not a liar — you can feel pain from him,” Stewart cooed. “The cool thing about the story is that it’s a seemingly wonderful fantasy — let’s fall in love with vampires and live forever — but it’s so much harder than that. Imagine living forever. Living one life is hard enough.”
But don’t get fooled into thinking this is going to be “The Notebook” for the undead. “The main character is like, superhuman,” Stewart said of the action scenes in the script. “He’s a vampire, but with really [heightened powers]; he can run faster than a car can drive, and he’s super strong. He throws me over his back [in one scene], right before he’s going to tell me that he’s a vampire, and then he runs over the treetops. And we’re going to be in real treetops; we’re not just going to CGI it. We actually get to go up there, and that’s what I’m stoked on.”
“It’s a pretty triumphant love story,” Stewart concluded, looking forward to stepping in front of the cameras. “It’s gonna take a while, and it [deserves to be] at least a series of three.”
UPDATE (2.28.08): ‘Twilight’ Co-Star Rachelle Lefevre Talks Treetop Controversy!

As for the doubts about the actors. Look them up. They're not bad actors. They can act (surprisingly!). When so many look at Robert Pattinson, they see Cedric Diggory. Yes, that was one role, and Edward is another roll. If people would actually look into his past movies when he was less well-known people might finally realize the magic of movie make-up. If they can make a fifteen year old look twenty-five, I'm sure they can make a twenty-one year old look seventeen.
But if people are going to change the whole story line and twist it into something it isn't, whats the point in seeing it, People who haven't read the books are going to think that this movie is just not real enough and won't even bother to read the books
Keep to the story line and forget the whole walking on tree tops thing, because that isn't real, and doesn't happen in the book. How the hell does a vampire and human girl walk on trees?
and how is Patterson gonna play Edward when he is too old?
Sorry to complain but i am really really passionate about these books and don't want people to think the movie wasn't good and never give the actual books a chance.
Sorry, But Kristins good...:)

P.S. I THINK TAYLOR SWIFT SHOULD PLAY ROSALIE HALE & STEPHEN STRAIT SHOULD PLAY JACOB BLACK
Second Edward telling Bella he is a vampire after he puts her on his back?! WTF That is so not in the book Bella found out with Jacobs help so.....what are they going to do cut out the scene where Bella goes to Port Angeles and Edward rescues her after being followed? Cause that is when she told him her 'Theory' - after he buys her dinner of course. So this is when Edward confirms her theory without actually saying anything.
Finally about Robert playing Edward, I know he is...old but their is Hollywood magic you know. But my friend and I agree that their should be a different actor to play Edward.
Now all we have to do is sit and wait and see wether or not that Summit messes this movie up or not.
Auf Wiedersehen! - Translation 'Goodbye!' in German.
RUN OVER THE TREE TOPS?
what is up with that? Edward can't run over tree tops, he never does anything like it. why would he? it will look so stupid.
Me an my friends (we've all read the twilight series) will prolly laugh through the whole movie, cause it'll suck. I hate it when they change the original story to make it all "action". Eragon and Blood and Choclate, are both brilliant books like Twilight, but the movies are terribly, they just change everything but the names and what they are. The only movie based on a book, I've ever seen that's been really good is Atonement, cause it really stays close to the book.
but yeh, I wanted Emily Browning as Bella, and Gaspard Ulliel as Edward, but I'm fine with Robert, brittish is sexy. But I can't stand Kristen.
Cant wait
i want to wish all of the actresses and actors good luck on making this movie extremely fantastic, because i have a feeling, if they dont, no one- especially them- is going to be happy, and the fans might *REALLY* hurt them. not cool, but its not like it cant happen. Kristen will do such a great job as Bella, I have seen a few of her movies, and they're great. I think that Robert Pattinson might not be able to pull off the PERFECT Edward Cullen, but then again, who can match up to the ONE AND ONLY Edward. Even though I dont think he's right for the part, we still have to give him a chance. AND if he sucks, then they will just replace him with a better and -more importantly- a more Edward-like actor. And this SO WONT be another Eragon, where you LOVE the book, but then the movie stinks on ice.

NOt over them i understand it'd be cool but thats not how it happens
other than that its AWESOME
cant wait till it comes out
i cant wait stephenie meyer is the best author ever and i wish her the best of luck ever!
i cant wait till the movie and breaking dawn
though. =D
Tan Tan taaaaaan.
Daniel Craig... Best... James... Bond... EVAH!
So come on people, give Robert Pattinson a chance!
He runs THROUGH woods, not OVER them. Wrong preposition.
Don't ruin the series with corny overexaggerated antics.
grar.
I just don't like the idea at all.
And hehe... it does sort of sound like Kristen hasn't read the Twilight Series books yet...
And hey, the more we love the Twilight series, the higher expectations we will have of the movie... but just try not to think that the movie will be fantastic and brilliant and romantic. As people always say, the books will always better than the movie... (in most cases) :D
If Stephenie says she likes the progress of the movie, then we should too: be happy with it at least. We can't expect it to be really, really brilliant, romantic and fantastic... because of the book: the movie will never be exactly the same as the book. And yet, before it is even made, we are already critisizing it. And plus, I have read many critics about Robert as Edward, but hey, I think he should do a great job in Twilight. (He did star in 'Harry Potter' after all), and he's a good actor. So is Kristen. She should do well as Bella.
And, so far, it does sound as though the movie isn't loyal to the book, but if you think about it, there's always the good parts: maybe it will turn out to be an awesome film, but we are critisizing about it because we heard the bad stuff about it like it having different points that aren't included in the Twilight book. But maybe that point had to be done to fit the rest of the movie.
So, overall, who knows, this movie may be fantastic or craptastic. :) When it's released!
The tree top thing sounds really weird since it never happened in the book and Jacob was the one who told Bella thet the Cullens were vampires. It's also really hard for me to picture Robert Pattinson as Edward. I just can't stop thinking of him as Cedric Diggory who should be dead but now has come back to life as a vampie. I really wanted Henry Cavill to be Edward. Who cares if he's too old!
If they do then... we might be doomed...
I'm really looking foward to seein the movie on the big screen. I'm a big-time reader and absolutely loved the series. I must say that i didn't quite picture Bella or Edward like that, but Bella and Edward look diffrent to everybody.
overall, I think it will be great!
