Guillermo Del Toro Ready To Unleash Frankenstein’s Monster

Guillermo Del ToroIn Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” there are two monsters: the creature brought back to life, of course, and the mad scientist who does it, Dr. Frankenstein.

Actually, make that three monsters, the affable Guillermo Del Toro joked. “I will appear shirtless for most of the length of the film,” he teased of his upcoming reinterpretation of the classic story. “You will be amazed at my chocolate bar physique!”

Del Toro, who told MTV News that he’s “always been” interested in directing a version of “Frankenstein,” said he’s hard at work in pre-production, crafting drawings which he hopes to use as a basis for the world of the film. “I started doing some notes before the strike,” he revealed. “[During the strike] I can only draw now.” (Watch Del Toro discuss “Frankenstein” after the jump.)

Known for his adult fairy tales like “Pan’s Labyrinth,” Del Toro insists he has a “definitive take” on the character.

“The only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries,” he said. “But I think there permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way.”

Hey, why diss DeNiro as the monster. Best thing in that movie. Better than all the soap theatrics of Branagh. Del Toro seems like a busy man, but I’d be interested in his take on the story. Good luck to him.

I really do hope Del Toro directs the last Harry Potter movie. Alfonso Cuaron did an amazing job with Prisoner of Askaban by making it unique and unlike the first two which were a lot more subdued…since these two directors have worked together they probably would have a close direction of interpreting the book and breaking away from the classic approach of the other directors.

I would really like for him to direct Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The book seems perfect for him, it’s more like outside rather than being on the school the whole time. It would be cool if he and Cuaron worked together on that last HP film.

Pam’s Labyrinth blew my mind away, and it was his own story. Not the effects, which were amazing but more like his ability to mix fantasy with reality, which is what the other HP directors left out on the films, those small Rowling details. Del Toro doesn’t seem like the person who would leave them out, seeing he’s a writer himself and knows the importance of them.

Mr. Del Toro, if you read this alot of Harry Potter fans would love you to direct DH. This movie should be a theatrical masterpiece because the that is how the books are viewed as Masterpiece’s.. NOTE TO WARNER BROTHERS. Spare no expense and make this move 180 minutes of film that all of us Potter fans deserve and demand:)
