Sweeney Todd’s a serial killer, and you know what that means — serial movies! The younger cast members of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” all have dream sequels on the brain, each starring themselves as the latest revenge-seeker in the cycle.
For instance, Jamie Bowers, who plays the love-struck sailor Anthony, proposes that his character and his lady love Johanna (played by Jayne Wisener) end up running away together — to start a new killing rampage. “We’re the killers this time,” he proposed, “but you can’t tell anyone yet.”
But the would-be couple have some competition from street kid Toby, who actually commits some violence on-screen this time around as practice. “He’s quite a troubled young man, he’s seen a lot,” said Ed Sanders, who plays Toby.
“I think he would be the next Sweeney Todd.” Instead of splitting throats in a barber’s chair, Sanders predicts Toby would throw people “straight in the fire.” “I think that’s because that’s what’s traumatized him the most,” he theorized. “I’m sure there’s many other possible outcomes. It’s worth thinking about.”
Either way, Bowers joked, “We could call it either ‘Sweeney Todd 2: The Body Count Continues,’ or ‘Sweeney Todd 2: This Time It’s Personal.’”

Nuts!

i think that the first one was kind of lame. but a sequel of it would make it istersted. lets just wait and hope so.
December 27th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
The one with Toby being the main character sounds kinda cool. But the one w/ Anthony and Johanna going on a death spree is just too much.
December 27th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
A sequal would be kind of cool. Hopefully it wont ruin the whole concept, though, as sequals often do. The Toby idea is a pretty good one, it seems acurate since he’s had a pretty hard life. But the one about Anthony and Joanna going out on a killing spree is just too much.

Ugh. Wasn’t this first blood bath enough? I did see the movie as I usually enjoy Johnny Depp, but even knowing going in that it would be gross did not prepare me. I have zero interest in seeing this film again and even less in any kind of sequel. Real life is violent and disgusting enough.
December 27th, 2007 at 1:35 pm
It wouldn’t be Sweeney Todd without the one and only…
December 27th, 2007 at 2:07 pm
If this is made, the person who should be doing the killing is Sondheim himself. Revenge against hollywood who wants SEQUELS SEQUELS SEQUELS!
December 27th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
Sweeny Todd was amazing!! But it wouldn’t be Sweeney Todd without… Sweeney Todd. Johnny Depp was one of the main reasons that the movie was so amazing, and the other being Helena Bonham Carter. But they wouldn’t be in the sequal so it wouldn’t be half as sensational!
December 27th, 2007 at 3:37 pm
I just saw the movie
and thought it was AMAZING.
I loved everything about it mainly because of Johnny and Helena. Making a second one would completly RUIN this movie. Without them, this movie would have never been this good. But that is only my opinion on this
December 27th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
Sweeney Todd is very different but at the same time FANTASTIC! All the actors are wonderful and the singing suits the action. The blood is more comical than scary - it’s not like Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
December 27th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
Can’t you tell it’s a joke….
December 27th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
OK people, this sequel business was all tongue in cheek—it’s not to be taken seriously. Sweeney Todd is a Sondheim classic and he would never allow sequels to be made. Can’t everyone tell that the actors quoted are speaking hypothetically and not factually?

All sequels for any movie especially a classic should be banned and existing ones burned to the ground. Especially the likes of Sweeny Todd…a sequel would ruin the je ne sais quis of the movie. Talk of such things should be taken lightly…or really as a form of humour…
December 27th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
it’d be cool if the sequel revovles around toby….it shall be called! Sweeney Todd 2: Toby or Toby’s Revenge whatever works ahah but tis right it wouldnt be the same without the original call it asin-off instead of a sequel
December 27th, 2007 at 7:21 pm
I can’t wait.
It’s gonna be good.
December 27th, 2007 at 7:45 pm
They won’t do it I hope.
December 27th, 2007 at 10:03 pm
sweeney todd 2: electric boogaloo
December 29th, 2007 at 12:13 am
Alan Rickman, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are the reason why everybody loves this movie. A second film without them would be pretty stupid, I think. I wouldn’t watch Sweeney Todd II.
December 29th, 2007 at 1:57 am
Sweeney Todd is one of the most brilliant musicals ever written (arguably the MOST brilliant).
To make a sequel would be bastardizing it, and Stephen Sondheim would NOT write another, or let someone tamper with his creative property in such a manner.
December 29th, 2007 at 5:44 am
The movie was great so I think having a sequal would make it better! I think the toby idea is really really good. it would be so cool to see him do lots of the killing! The thought of the 2 love birds running away is CRAP!! It would be such a boring film if that happened!!!
December 29th, 2007 at 11:25 pm
There is no sequel that makes any sense to me. This play and subsquent movie have a beginning and an END.
December 30th, 2007 at 12:24 am
Sweeney Todd was a musical first. If they made a sequel musical, THEN a movie, it might make more sense.
But seeing as this is a true story in the first place, any sequel should be researched first.
December 30th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
Great, our sick friends from Hollywood are going to deliver another installment of serial killers waltzing around slicing throats. Yay!!!! Look, the musical was good, based on a real event — milking it again is just misguided bloodlust for its own sake. Come ON.
December 31st, 2007 at 10:01 pm
Have none of these idiot posters heard of sarcasm? I thought it was a funny idea.
January 3rd, 2008 at 7:42 pm
i agree w/ donella. how stupid can you people be? hahahah. =] toby’s a cutie.
January 4th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
I’m writing a sequel at the moment. :3
I just started it a few days ago. -I’m very excited-
I’m brainstorming right now. I don’t think it’ll be published or anything special ’cause I’m a 12 year old who has no connections, but I’m gonna do it any way! (And yes I’m doing research.)

sometimes you should leave well enough alone.
March 2nd, 2008 at 1:24 pm
These are the STUPIDEST ideas i have ever heard…no way in hell
April 22nd, 2008 at 5:30 pm
A-D-O-R-E-D the 1st one.. but i dont really think they should make a second. it would just be odd
i meenn.. ITS CALLED SWEENEY TODD.. BUT HE DIED!!!!
so IF they did make a new one.. it should be renamed.
May 15th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
It sounds like a cool idea, either of them, but it wouldn’t really be sweeney todd.
I think if they just made a movie on the aftermath it would suit the movie well, showing you what becomes of antony and johanna and toby, but it wouldn’t be SWEENEY TODD 2, because Sweeney Todds not in it.
May 30th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
The idea of a another film is dire, Sweeney Todd is dead, If there was to be another film I could see the idea of Toby but again its the blades we want not fires. Johanna could make quite a good sequel as she could be blamed for her fathers killings therefore leading to her beign deported ect. But again this would be dreadful a sequel is not preferable
June 13th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
Okay had i known going into this movie that it was going to be so bloody and such an emo movie I never would have seen it, i mean it was completely unnecessary to have him kill his own wife! and talks of a sequel, seriously? that is just plain ridiculous because even if i did like the movie which of course I didn’t, it is just plain ludicris to even think about making a sequel to this movie when the character that the whole thing is based off of is dead. and I really hard for me to bad mouth this movie because I am such a big fan of Johny Depp
June 13th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
it is really hard
June 26th, 2008 at 3:05 am
We think that the next movie should be renamed as well because its obvious that Sweeney Todd died so why name Sweeney Todd in the second sequal? Anyways, the idea with Toby is a great idea and we also both agree that it would be too much for Anthony and Johanna to go on a killing spree. They have no revenge or problems. Toby is an example of a reason to go on a killing spree.

This would be my dream come true!! well actually my dream come true would be my version of it or: Sweeney todd: What should have happened
