‘Harry Potter’ Actors React To ‘Deathly Hallows’ Epilogue

For some, it was TMI — for others, too little. J.K. Rowling’s epilogue to the “Deathly Hallows” may have actually caused more debate than the rest of the book, simply for the who-ended-up-with-whom element, some of which we knew and saw coming, and others, like Draco gets married?! And spawns?! that we still can’t get behind. But for Luna Lovegood and Cho Chang, or at least, the actresses who play them, they’re quite happy with their happily-ever-afters — even if Jo didn’t see fit to give us all the details in the actual book itself.

“We do know what happens with Luna,” Evanna Lynch said when we caught up with her at the “Golden Compass” premiere in London. “She marries Rolf Scamander, the grandson of Newt Scamander [author of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'] and becomes a famous naturalist. I can’t do better than that.”

“I’m hoping Cho is like Luna, and happily married with kids,” Katie Leung said, “and finally over Cedric and Harry. I want her to be happy.”

Lynch said she felt “stoned” when she finished reading “Deathly Hallows” — one, because it was over and two, because while most of her theories proved to be “rubbish,” she turned out to be right about Snape. Now that we know what his true motivations are, she’s disappointed that the moment foreshadowing his relationship with Lily (otherwise known as “Snape’s Worst Memory”) wasn’t included in “Order of the Phoenix” — either the movie itself or the deleted scenes on the DVD, out Tuesday.

“I thought that was a real pity,” she said. “But it gave so much away. It has to be Seven now. We have to give him what he deserves.”

we DO know as a matter of fact what happens to Cho. she marries a muggle. however, if she is happy or with children remains unseen.

Well, that’s nice to know. i too, thought that the epilogue lacked in what I’d like tp know, but it also leftopena door of oppertunities, or a chance for us to wonder and think for ourselves. I like to imagine what the years were like inbetween. you know, their weddings, and such. bu ti thought it had a nice finish up. It’s always interesting on what the actors think. Finding out what they’ll have to do, you know. but, I can’t beleve it’s over. After all that…it’s done. *sigh* But! Life goes on! And we still have 2 movies ahead and a theme park before it is REALLY over.

i know. im sad it’s over!
i was sad they took off the scene between the marauders/lily/snape. coz that would be important on the seventh movie.
anyway go katie and evanna! katie is so pretty!
    evanna is cool!

    xx

Thank you, Evanna Lynch, for mentioning Snape’s story and how important it is for the plot! I hope the film makers LISTEN …

  5. Rosa P Says:

I really hope they pay more attention now to the story line and how important certain details are no matter how small. Now that they have all 7 books out they have no excuse.

  6. Linda J Says:

where does it say how cho & luna end up???

  7. DracoDaDeatheater Says:

I think maybe showing that scene of snape’s worst memory WITH Lily might be revealing a bit too much…and might plant the seed of what happens later a little too early in the movies…especially since we will probably have to wait a few more years to see the last film.

But I don’t really blame the film production…they can’t possibly know what would be relevant in later movies…especially since the last book wasn’t out yet (unless J.K. specifically tells them what is relevant).

Its a tough situation when you’re making a movie in a series of books where the ending is not known yet…especially when the author has a tendency to include relevant information in previous books.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the best book i have ever read. I twas thrilling, exilarting, moving, captivating and I am terribly sad that it is over. I wanted it to continue forever. i was very pleased with ending/epilouge. J.K. Rowling writes a very very good book. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is and will remain forever my favorite book of all time. I will read it over and over for my entire life. I know that each time I read it I will as if I am reading it for the first time. Thank you Rowling, I LOVE your books.

  9. Kira Says:

Linda J: It doesn’t say in the book, but J.K. did an interview you should be able to find on Leaky somewhere, where she goes into a lot more detail on what happens to the various characters after Deathly Hallows.
I didn’t love the epiloge but I didn’t hate it either. I was relieved that she gave more info later. I’ve read the book six time’s since it’s release, and it has taken over as my fav HP. Unfortunately, I doubt the films can do the final two justice. Here’s hoping though.

  10. Sharon Says:

Very eloquent, Evanna, regarding Snape. After all, any person who can hate as deeply has Snape does would of course love just as deeply. It’s a reminder to everyone not to judge people on appearances, and Snape’s character deserves to be redeemed in the last movie.

  11. Adrian Says:

I agree that it’s very important that Snape’s part from the books stays clear in the movies, because otherwise Snape loses his connection to the plot, and he’s one of the major motives that allows Voldemort’s destruction.

how kind of you all to stick up for my husband. it is quite sad and happy the way his story turned out to be. The part I found most moving was when harry is talking to Albus Severus and tells him that Snape was probably the bravest man I knew. Who ever thought that Harry would talk about Snape like that or none the less name one of his sons after him- in a way. Definetly my favorite book- after Half blood prince - gee can you guess why? forgive me I have OCD( laughs )

  13. Dani Says:

A book that is turned into a movie series will never be good enough for readers but hopefully JK won’t let the seventh movie be a complete disaster.

  14. Jamie Says:

I Loved the six book and I thought that It was the best ever, However I would have liked her to tell more about the relationship between harry and lupin’s son in the end, 19 years is a long time to go with out parents, even if Harry Potter is your godfather!!!!! Long Live Harry Potter

  15. kathy Says:

I love the ending that it hurts to close the book.Long live Harry!

  16. karen Says:

I feel so Happy that was the end.I hope there would be another sequel. My twin Kathy loves it too.Hail Fred! You’ll always be here in my heart.

oh,i’m italian and i really love this book, i bought it in English of course! maybe the plot is too complicated because in this last book JKR had to tell and write too mani things that we didn’t know.. but I love it and surely i’ll read it again!… mmm, Snape didn’t surprise me because I’ve ever thought he is “good”!

  18. evanna11 Says:

Hi, I just loved the book! I read it within 2 days..-except for the loose ends:Who is Draco’s wife???I think she is a muggle..I just loved the part about Snape!!! And the RAB is Sirius’brother turned out to be good, and also that Harry lived and Voldy died..

i think the Seventh book had a perfect ending, Even though it didn’t give Too many details. i liked the fact that it didn’t tell you EVERYTHING, it gives you room to fill in the blanks with how There weddings were, why they decided to name their kids what they did, How the kids grew up, How They grew up in general more then they already were grew up. To all the people who said Half Blood Prince was the Best-Half blood Prince ain’t got NOTHING On Deathly Hallows. The Only purpose of the sixth book, From my prospective, is to inform you on Voldemort’s life, and Tell you about Hermione and Ron’s budding romance, and Harry and Ginny’s Budding romance. i Think although it was a good book, Harry became way too obsessed with what Malfoy was doing, even though we all KNEW it was Malfoy who was behind all the bad things, but Still, Harry Became OBSESSED. Like, ‘he-broke-up-with-me-and-now-i-have-to-see-what-he-is-doing-that-is-bad-so-i-can-get-him-into-trouble’ obsessed.

I read Deathly Hallows as soon as Amazon got it to me, dropped it for 24 hours, then read it again. Then gave it to my wife, who took a little bit longer. Meanwhile, I found the “alternate 7th book” (7th horcrux) online and read IT.
BOTH are excellent wrap-ups for the series. I have to say, I prefer Jo’s version; after all, it IS her series, and she created all of it herself. Whoever wrote 7th horcrux was infringing Jo’s work, major-league. But it was…interesting, and gave an alternative ending to what will for a l-o-n-g time be the BEST teen-age fantasy/wizard story. And yes, I’ve reread all 7 books again and again - haven’t gotten back to 7th horcrux, which probably tells you something right there.

  21. Essi Says:

Well, I haven’t read the whole book yet. My friend lent it to me and I was so impatient that I sort of… browsed the book through. :/ So I know what happens with Harry and Voldemort in the end, but I don’t know how the situation ended up like that… I’m Finnish actually, so I ‘ve to wait till March when “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” comes out in finnish. I can’t wait!!! :D
