Tim Roth Teases Surprising Look In ‘Hulk’

When Ang Lee’s “Hulk” came out way back in 2003, the knock on it from the comic community was that it played too much like a character film, with not enough action, not enough spectacle — not enough Hulk smashing the ever-loving crap out of his enemies. So, of course, Tim Roth, who plays villain Abomination, immediately waylaid our worst fears that the reboot would be more of the same.

“I can’t give the game away, but I felt like I was making an independent movie with a serious budget,” he said. “They had three units going and I was with the second unit quite often. I wrapped the other day in Brazil.”

Wait, what? An independent movie? If Hulk and Abomination don’t lay waste to entire cities with the brutality of their fighting, I’M going to start to smash things.

Luckily, Roth seems to have a different definition of what makes an independent movie than I do, since he promised MTV the new flick would also be chock full of action.

“You’ll be surprised!” he enthused. “I did it for my children. I have three boys. They’re just bang on right for it. I just wanted to do something they’d think was cool.”

And that’s all I need to hear, really. Because while I might not know what the definition of an independent movie is to Roth, one thing I DO know is that little boys think one thing and one thing only is cool — and that’s when superheroes beat the snot out of each other.

“There have been a few of these [comic book movies] that they’ve gotten wrong,” Roth said. “The stuff I was involved with was seriously good fun. Hopefully this is one they got right.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

i like ang lee’s hulk, a lot. i think it’s pretty depressing that all people want is hulk smashing sh*t. the tv show was great, and it was more of a drama as well. so, go cry in your pillow…

  2. Kevin Huxford Says:

You’re the mary that wants a slow moving character piece in a movie based on the most testosterone fueled character from comic books. It would seem going to “cry in your pillow” is much more your speed than those that want an action movie that fits the property.

the ang lee hulk movie was weak. i like a character driven piece and i want action. but it was the major changes in the back ground story that killed it for me

I can’t wait to see it! norton, tyler, roth and hurt. wow!

  5. Marky Says:

I wouldn’t stand if hulk could cry over betty’s shoulder to let himself to melt it down to get the normal human from the mindless tracks. I also want to add that bruce to find the cure. if not then, what else is there to change for himself to get on the right blood to fight? or else, he will doom to be drastic to continue his energy as never stop. I mean.. NEVER return to human… like I saw the doctor who with a green hair that fights with hulk and finally had stopped him .. what was that?? so if that happens to show everyone,, that is the main story for everyone to see of how hulk to get what he was looking for.

Ang Lee’s version was good to tell the origin’s, maybe slow, but, now I’m redy to see “THE HULK” the way he was meant to be seen, all the anger released into a action brutal beast, powered by testosteronial gamma ray’s, a fighting action hero, who fights not to elevate himself, but fights to find peace within by destroying the one who inflicts suffering on him, and sometimes that means protecting over the weaker humans, because he cares for them. I go to the movies not to see reality but to be entertained. I want to leave the movie house thinking this was a movie I would like to see again and tell some freinds about.
