As appointed protectors of Earth by the wizard Shazam, Captain Marvel has the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, Black Adam the swiftness of Heru, the courage of Mehen.
But the greatest of power in “Shazam”’s arsenal doesn’t come from a wizard – this time, it came from YOU.
Charged last month with helping The Rock choose the role he would play in the upcoming “Shazam,” MTV Movies Blog visiters overwhelming suggested Black Adam, the treacherous and corrupt former champion who fights Captain Marvel.
Now the Rock is back to tell MTV that he agrees (read the full story here).
After the jump, watch The Rock announce his decision and thank the fans for weighing in.
“I sayeth Black Adam as well,” he enthusiastically pronounced. “I love that. I love that [fans] were so vocal.”
Johnson stressed that the role wasn’t yet a done deal, though he went on to say that the character of Black Adam was being changed to meet his strengths as an actor.
“I’m meeting with [director] Pete Segal tonight [November 1] and we’re going to talk about it,” he grinned.
So while it’s never wise to count your chickens before they’re hatched –it would seem that the only thing left for The Rock is to sign on the line that is dotted.
And when he does, he wants this to be his message to fans.
“Thank you for choosing,” he proclaimed. “Now the goal is just to make a kickass movie, a kickass character.”
Behold your power! They’re listening. Sound off on the Rock, “Shazam,” and who should play Captain Marvel below.

Couldn’t imagine anyone else as Black Adam. He’ll be fantastic.
November 2nd, 2007 at 10:49 am
Good deal, because he bears more than a striking resemblance to Back Adam.
November 2nd, 2007 at 10:54 am
Awesome! The Rock will be astounding as Black Adam, and he’s gonna contribute very well to Shazam. Let’s hope that he’s able to sign on the dotted line.
November 2nd, 2007 at 2:33 pm
What about Dean Caine for Captain Marvel ?
November 2nd, 2007 at 2:39 pm
There *is* Justice in this world!
This movie will be All Kinds of Awesome!!!
=^_^=
November 2nd, 2007 at 3:10 pm
Awesome!
I really hope that if this is going to have comedic elements, that they get Patrick Warburton for Captain Marvel.
I’d love a scene with Black Adam raising an eyebrow after being hit harder than he ever had before, with Captain Marvel squinting and grinning just before being knocked through 3 buildings by the return blow.
Yeah, I’m a Black Adam fan, and there’s nobody I’d rather have play him than the Rock. Please don’t kill him off at the end of the movie like Hollywood always seems wont to do– Black Adam has also been an anti-hero– leave it open for some redemption.
November 2nd, 2007 at 3:28 pm
cool. Another marvel Super Hero he would be good at would be Namor the Sub-Mariner. Any way I hope he signs cause I would like see him a comic movie

BRANDON MOLALE as Captain Marvel!!!
Yes, now that the Rock has confirmed what we knew all along, it’s time to cast the big red cheese…. BRANDON MOLALE. He was born to play this part and it WILL be his breakout role. He was hilarious in Mr. Deeds as the a** hole Jets quarterback, now like what Brandon Routh did for Superman, Molale will do for Captain Marvel. Give Brandon the role. He looks EXACTLY like Captain Marvel.
November 2nd, 2007 at 8:08 pm
I thought only old guys like me even REMEMBERED Captain Marvel. He was a much better hero than Superman ever was. His appeal to kids back then was in the fact that he WAS a kid in his Billy Batson alter ego. It’s not just a matter here of correctly casting Captain Marvel. Billy’s character is equally important. Let’s just hope it isn’t Zac Efron!

THE ROCK & WARBURTON!
GEEEENIUS!
November 2nd, 2007 at 9:30 pm
AWESOME! The ROCK is Black Adam!
Now who for The Big Red Cheese? I say that since theres a BIG name actor in the film, give BRANDON MOLALE the role of Capt’n Marvel! He would be perfect and looks EXACTLY like him! The other names being tossed around……. not even close! Give this guy a role he can sink his teeth into! He’s been in enough stuff already to prove he has what it takes to be in the movies…..now come on guys!!! Give him the role he DESERVES! BRANDON MOALE all the way!
November 3rd, 2007 at 10:30 am
Yeah now BRANDON MOLALE for SHAZAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BRANDON BRANDON BRANDON BRANDON BRANDON BRANDON

I totally agree Brandon Molale needs to play the part. MTV Should do the same kinda poll for cap and Brandon as they did for the Rock.
The Rock is Black Adam
Brandon Molale is Captain Marvel
Who is Billy Batson?

Captain Marvel casting:
If the movie is serious: Brandon Molale.
If the movie is comedic: Patrick Warburton.

Here is the ultimate cast wishlist: Brandon Molale or James Caveizel as Capt Marvel, Omar Sharif as Shazam, Joe Pesci as Sivana, Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, Stacy Keibler as Beautia, Micky Dolenz as Uncle Dudley, Jon Voight as Sterling Morris, Jim Belushi as Mr Tawny, Tom Selleck as Nick Bromfield, Catherine Hicks as Nora Bromfield, Alan Alda as Freddy’s grandpa, and three Disney Channel/Nickelodeon type 11 year olds to play Billy, Mary and Freddy (a la Devon Werkheiser, Kay Panabaker, and Ben Keough, respectively).
New Line MUST hire Alex Ross and PC Hamerlinck to be the film’s consultants. Legend has it Elvis Presley was a great Shazam fan…the movie should use his songs in the soundtrack (IF I CAN DREAM would make a perfect theme song). Michael Nesmith would be a great choice to compose the instrumental score.

They need to base the movie on the vintage Otto Binder-CC Beck comics. It should be fun and have a lot of humor, but it cannot cross into camp, and there must be action and drama to balance it out.

His royal majesty Micky Dolenz shoud definately, without question, be cast as Uncle Dudley.

Omar Sharif should be cast as the wizard Shazam.
November 8th, 2007 at 12:24 am
OMG! This is already better than Superman: Returns.
Captain Marvel is already a better character, it’s just Superman is much much much much more popular(and the first superhero/icon). But I’m already waiting in line for the Shazam movie.
November 9th, 2007 at 10:08 am
I think they should get Adam West to play the Wizard…seriously! He has a really good voice & would be great!!
BATMAN FAN?? Check Out ~

James Caveizel should play Captain Marvel.
Omar Sharif is perfect for Shazam the wizard.
Joe Pesci has the right look and great acting chops for Dr Sivana.
Stacy Keibler or Marnette Patterson (”Charmed”) would be perfect for Beautia.
Micky Dolenz would be amazing as Uncle Dudley.
Either Jon Voight, Martin Mull or Dan Aykroyd would be great as Mr Morris, owner of station WHIZ.
Maggie Lawson (”Psych”) or Sarah Chalke (”Scrubs”) would be terrific as Joan Jameson, the WHIZ news director.
I agree Elvis’ “If I Can Dream” would make a perfect theme song for the film. It sums up the Capt Marvel character brilliantly. Listen for yourself.

James Caveizel was struck by lightning during filming of THE PASSION…he would be perfect for Captain Marvel!
Micky Dolenz as Uncle Dudley? Brilliant. Dudley is a lovable, comedic character…Dolenz would define the role perfectly.
My biggest concern is that the film makers will take a dopey BIG approach, where Captain Marvel acts like a little kid. Cap and Billy may be the same person, but they are from two opposite points of thier (his) lifeline. So Cap, while retaining some of Billy’s personallity, would still be wiser (with the wisdom of Solomon) and more mature than Billy. Please, Peter Segal, get this aspect of the character right! Don’t do a campy BIG send up, I beg you!
November 17th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
Now that The Rock will play Black Adam, here is the rest of the cast (pay attention, Peter Segal):
Capt Marvel = James Caveizel
Billy Batson = Nathan Kress
Shazam = Omar Sharif
Dr Sivana = Joe Pesci
Beautia = Marnette Patterson
Uncle Dudley = Micky Dolenz
Sterling Morris = Jon Voight
Mary Bromfield (Batson) = Kay Panabaker
Freddy Freeman = Benjamin Keough
Grandpa Freeman = Alan Alda
Nick Bromfield = Tom Selleck
Nora Bromfield = Catherine Hicks
Joan Jameson = Maggie Lawson
Whitey Murphy = Jesse McCartney
Cissy Sommerly = Emily Osment
Ebenezer Batson = Bob Newhart
Nanny Primm = Carol Burnett
Mr Tawny = Jim Belushi
As to all the BIG references the media is hyping up, I think it would be a “big” mistake to have Captain Marvel act like a child. I always believed that the original Fawcett comic book creators had the book of Tobit, from the Bible, in mind when they developed Captain Marvel. The superpowered angel Raphael takes the form of a boy, Azariah. The film should give a nod to that.
November 22nd, 2007 at 12:43 am
I think actor Brandon Molale is the PERFECT Captain Marvel. He looks just like him and he has the muscles to pull off the role.
November 23rd, 2007 at 12:33 pm
James Caveizel no way.
Brandon Molale is the only one to play Cap
Brandon Molale
Brandon Molale
SAY IT!!!
Brandon Molale
December 1st, 2007 at 7:25 pm
uhhh…Robert…can Brandon Molale even act?? Last I heard, he was a stuntman, not an actor. Molale can be Caviezel’s stunt double!
March 1st, 2008 at 2:05 am
I always thought Adam Baldwin would make a good Captain Marvel, and Chris Meloni ( http://www.galleryofcelebrities.com/meloni.htm ) would have been good as Black Adam.
March 4th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Yeah, if the Rock plays Black Adam, then that means all of you can suck my ~@#@##$ ?~~@!!!!!
March 26th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
The Rock will do an excellent job as Black Adam in Billy Batson and the Legend of Shazam! I am hyped up to “smell what Black Adam is cookin’!”
March 30th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
How about having John Cena as Captain Marvel
May 4th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
BRANDON MOLALE as Captain Marvel would provide a great contrast to Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. Both of these actors not only bare striking facial and muscular resemblances to the comic-book characters, they have both given comedic and serious performances on screen as well. This choice should be a no-brainer!
