Bencio Del Toro and Steven Soderbergh’s two Che Guevara projects are moving forward at a rapid pace, but they’re doing so without the services of Benjamin Bratt.
“It didn’t work out; I’m not doing them, unfortunately,” the “Law and Order” actor revealed when asked for details about “The Argentine” and “Guerilla,” two films which were to shine a penetrating light on one of the most famous revolutionaries of the 20th century…or, as he’s known to disaffected college students everywhere, “that bearded guy on the T-shirt.”
Bratt has been talking up the dual projects since at least 2004, excitedly telling one website that he was set to play “Ente, the right hand man, lieutenant to Che.”But long delays in the project (which just began filming this month) ultimately put the kibosh on his involvement, Bratt said.
“I was on something else and the dates didn’t work out,” he told us, adding “I was kind of heartbroken about it.”Shot entirely in Spanish, the two Che flicks should hit theaters sometime in 2008.
