Anthony Hopkins To Play Hitchcock And He’s Got The Voice Ready

Watch out Dan Fogler, there’s another guy itching to play Alfred Hitchcock in a film and while this one didn’t make an appearance in “Balls of Fury,” he does have a few fans out there. He scared the crap out of Clarice Starling and everyone else, so why not Anthony Hopkins as the master of suspense?

Reports earlier this year indicated that the Oscar winner might play Hitchcock in a film for “Running with Scissors” director Ryan Murphy and now Hopkins has confirmed the news to us. And not only that, but Hopkins went into great detail, describing the opening of the film (which will detail the making of “Psycho”) and even giving us a peek at what his Hitchcock will sound like! Check it out below!

what a lousy lousy hitchcock impersonation.

  3. Amit Itzcar Says:

the best actor to play Hitch is Timothy Spall

ANTHONY IS THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB.

  5. andrew Says:

yeah that was bad…im sure he’ll do better on film…..an odd choice…or maybe its obvious…start eating those cheeseburgers tony.

  6. Pete Says:

    Stephen Tobolowsky should play him.

  7. edgarho Says:

Sounds like it will be an interesting movie, just from the opening.

is it a movie about hitchcock?…if it is…”why?” do we need a movie about hitchcock? enough with the biopics. we need originality. Stop digging up the past. If they are making a movie about hitch, Tobin bell should play him. He’s scarier than hopkins.

  10. Anon Says:

My response to michael: What does being scary have to do with anything? Have you ever actually watched a Hitchcock movie? When I see him introduce his movies he strikes me as a proper, well-mannered English gentleman. But good job dropping Tobin Bell’s name in there so people think you know a thing or two about movies.

  11. Guzmán Urrero Says:

This guy is amazing. One of the best stage and movie actors, and in my opinion, a perfect choice.

  12. Eric Wilkinson Says:

Timothy Spall WOULD be amazing…but so would Hopkins…

  13. Marcus Tee Says:

Hitch wasn’t always fat so you who keep coming up with obese people should rethink. I think Tony would be good in the role. I wonder if they will exploit his morbid sense of humor in playing (im)practical jokes on his crew.

  14. Flarb Macklefee Says:

He’s a little old, I think. I hope Burt Reynolds will play Anthony Perkins!

  15. Brian Jacks Says:

To the Hopkins bashers…considering he did the Hitchcock impersonation on the spot, it was pretty f’ing good. I for one think this pic will be totally awesome.

  16. Jesse Hopkins Says:

I loved him as Nixon, and it isn’t because he looked just like him or got the voice just right. Hopkins can convey the inner person of the characters he portrays.

  17. Joel Gunz Says:

Anybody know where I can see the full interview?

  18. Dawn Says:

Anthony Hopkins is an amazing actor and I’m sure his portrayal of Hitchcock in a movie will come across much better than in just an interview.

  19. Karin Dor Says:

I live in Hollywood and have some news about this project. It is definitely the next film project for director Ryan Murphy and Anthony Hopkins will play Hitchcock.

Someone associated with the project told me that the movie is “high priority” and that the most recent version of the script (from just before the writers’ strike went into effect) was “really smart, funny, dark, unusual and emotional.” Not at all the standard biomovie and apparently notl like the draft scooped by Jeffrey Welles on his “Hollywood Elsewhere” site a few months ago. The same person who is involved with the movie said that he’s read a couple of earlier drafts, but it was never once titled “A.H. Presents.”

IMDB Pro lists MRC as the funder of the movie and that company signed an agreement with the Writers Guild of America, so the project should be good to go.

For a huge Hitchcock fan, all this is great news.

Sir Tony must not push Hitchcock character over the top.Hitchcock spoofed himself on the T.V.series and in his unspoken film cameos. What we saw of Hitchcock was magnified many, many times.I look forward to A.H.as the master of film suspense. It will have to be more than a biograpy. As for Flarb Macklefee , would Tom Cruise or Toby Mcquire be better suited for the role?It could be oscar material if the reins are held tight. There was much more to Alfred than the shower scene.

  21. RICK Says:

I didn’t know Alfred Hitchcock had down syndrome.
