Casting Call: ‘Justice League’ By Larry Carroll

Justice LeagueEditor’s Note: This is the first of two “Casting Call” articles on “Justice League,” each offering up casting suggestions from an MTV Movies Blog writer. Larry Carroll kicks us off…

I honestly don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that, in the entire history of motion pictures, there has never been a greater casting opportunity than the soon-to-film “Justice League of America” movie. Think about it: normally, people like us burn through thousands of words discussing the actor who’ll star in a single superhero movie. Now, we have a half-dozen iconic characters, many of whom have never before been embodied on-screen, all of whom will become forever linked with the actor who’ll portray them.

As the leaks continue to flow, and the casting sessions continue, here’s a brief list of my own personal “Justice” dream team - just in case director George Miller is looking for some inspiration:

Superman: Tom Welling - This is by far the toughest casting call, because the Man of Steel’s features are so etched in stone, and there’s no thought more gag-inducing than casting some inappropriate-looking actor (a la Nic Cage) to “re-invent” the character. In my mind, if they won’t let Brandon Routh do another Johnny Bravo (as in “he fits the suit”), give the gig to the “Smallville” star and let’s see if he can take things to the next level.

Batman: Christian Bale - Batman is Christian Bale, and anyone else who takes the part is setting themselves up for career suicide. I know, WB has effectively said Bale won’t be in “Justice League”, but they need to just keep throwing money at the guy until he changes his mind.

Flash: Ryan Reynolds - We’ve been hearing the rumors for years, and at this point it’s hard to imagine anyone else (besides John Wesley Shipp) shooting that costume out of his ring.

Green Lantern: After considering the likes of T.I. and even Mos Def, it seems that only Jamie Foxx could bring the appropriate mix of charm and physicality to the role. He wouldn’t be perfect, but at least he’d be interesting.

Aquaman: Ryan Phillippe - The only established names that could fit in this role seem to be Paul Walker, Phillippe, or somebody like Chad Michael Murray - and the thought of the other two horrify me to no end. Yes, Phillippe seems to think that the more he squints the better his performance will be - but playing a guy who’s constantly emerging from salt water, that would be a plus.

Wonder Woman: Kate Beckinsale - Naturally, my first vote is to see Jessica Biel in those star-studded panties. But Beckinsale is a better actress, more physically appropriate for the part, and we know how effective she is at kicking ass.

Martian Manhunter: Keanu Reeves - Sure, it’s my most controversial pick. But the missed opportunity of Keanu as Dr. Manhattan in “Watchmen” is still sticking in my craw. His aloof personality and lanky build, coupled with a head shave and a skin dyeing, would make him a fascinating otherworldly being. And for once, the stiffness in his acting style would be a super strength.

  1. When it comes to the big screen Tom Welling has been able to step it up from television. Here's the deal.
Brandon Routh is Superman. This is already a done deal. I am still wondering why there is little to no talk about the pending "rights" to Superman brought by the Siegel family. Bryan Singer is scheduled to be deposed by November 30, 2007. The next step in the Superman lawsuit is a trial scheduled to start on January 22, 2008. Until this lawsuit is settled Justice League(with Superman)and the Sequel to Superman Returns will have to put on hold.
  2. When it comes to the big screen Tom Welling has been UNABLE to step it up from television. Here’s the deal.

  5. Justin --- You lost all respect when you mentioned Jude Law as Superman. Hilarious that you are serious. Welling doesn't have acting ability? Watch the episode splinter. Aside from that he is playing Superman, not a Daniel Day Lewis character, and he pulls off a post-crisis Clark Kent perfectly on Smallville, he is absolutely perfect. Has the everyman quality, apolitical, noble and compassionate without being an overt boyscout, the good friend you like to have without having eccentric quirks. He is Superman. You need to read some comics or just find some semblance of intelligence.
  6. Messi- Although I enjoy your cander, I can't understand the infatuation with such a half-ass WB actor. He might possess all of the qualities you speak of but since I am not a 13 year old girl, I am unable to picture Tom Welling as Superman on the big sceen. I mean he was in Cheaper by the Dozen, Cheaper by the Dozen!!!!! Smallville is a well written show, but come on...Helen Keller could act better than T.W. And as far as my Jude Law prediction, his Oscar calliber acting would be a great asset to the film. I look forward to further messages between us. Now if you will excuse me, I am off to buy every copy of The Fog and burn it, making sure no one will ever have to watch that piece of sh*t as long as they live.....
  7. Here's what happened. Brandon Routh has been signed to play Superman in the Justice League movie. Take my word on this. I cannot reveal my sources at this time but I guarantee he has already been cast as Superman. There are two very specific reasons for not announcing who is playing Superman at this time. The first reason is to keep the hype going over the internet. The interest and free publicity pertaining to this movie and specifically who will play Superman is unbelievable and the casting of Superman will be the last character role announced. The second reason is the pending lawsuit brought by the Siegel family. The Justice League movie along with Superman Returns sequel are contingent on the outcome of this trial and it's subsiquent settlement.
  8. Dan- That is the best news I have heard all day...Any inside knowledge about the Superman trial???
  9. The only inside knowledge of the Superman trial I have at this time is that the Siegels have a very strong case. It is my guess that some type of out of court settlement will arise out of this mess with the Siegels owning a large percentage of Superman. As far as I am concerned, this is how it should have been all along. We would not have Superman if it were not for Joe Siegel and Jerry Schuster.
  10. Hillarious that anyone thinks JLA is being put on hold. The lawsuit won't be settled for years. Until then, it's business as usual.

Are all Routh fans BS artists? But I guess that's all they got. Sad that they got no faith in the guy to get other work. But that makes sense for a failed tv soap actor.
  11. Justin. alot of people who are not 13 yr old girls believe Tom Welling is superman, including 3 people in Jeph Loeb, Mark Miller and Mark Waid. But what do you know, you suggested Jude Law for Superman....Jude Law. You also need to watch more smallville that isn't the first season(which i would agree his acting was spotty) but since season 5 he is completly Clark Kent, exactly like the post crisis comics except a younger version.
  12. Ok let me clear this up, it won't be TOM WELLING because HE DOESN'T WANT to PLAY THE ROLE beyond the show. LOOK IT UP! so let's move on. Bale AGAIN has turned JLA down. MOVE ON! So my picks, Mortenson for batman I can accept, but he needs to dye his hair black. Superman,...good question...let's find a no name that ACTUALLY fitrs what SUPERMAN LOOKS LIKE in the comics instead of knockin off reeve. Superman existed before him people. Catherine zeta and denzel for WW and GL? well lets just make bruce willis batman and Cloony as superman and say the stand for TRUTH, JUSTICE and the MEDICAID WAY!! WW should be played by an actress with strong curves. and some ethnicity to her. whoever said K. Knightly is a flat MORON, let's just have Justin timberlake play supes too! COME ON! SO find a no namer. Nadia Bjorlin is no name enough. I think Tyrese could pull off GL. But I am goin on faith here. Flash reynolds is perfect. Aquaman..even Justin could play him. and MM. I say VIN DIESEL. Voice, build, look. He has the works!
  13. In response to LOL:
Brandon Routh will play Superman in the Justice League movie, if it ever materializes. There is a great possibility that the Justice League Movie(Justice League America has been dropped as the name) will be put on hold because of the lawsuit as well as the pending strike. Hollywood has been bracing for a strike by actors, writers and directors for sometime. They have been expecting the work stoppage would begin next June when actors and directors' contracts with the studios expire. However, the Writers Guild of America could strike as soon as Oct. 31 of this year and they are targeting big budget/big dollar movies and Justice League is on their list.An Oct.31, 2007 strike would seriously impact the prospects for a large number of major movies including Justice League.
I like Tom Welling in Smallville, although I do not like the direction the series has taken the past two seasons. I am simpply stating what is fact and that is Brandon Routh will be playing the part of Superman in the Justice League Movie.

Brandon can be seen "getting other work" in the upcoming movies: Lie to me(post production) and The Informers(pre production)
  14. So Routh is getting the part in a movie (JL) that is not getting made? LOL.
Routh fans are such bullshitters. What is funnier, is that they are sooo bad at it.
There is not even any logic to their BS.
The failed tv soap actor is "starring" in direct to DVD fare. That makes sense.
The question arises, why won't real studios employ him?
  15. LOL believes that all movie studios would shut down until all lawsuits are over and/or any pending strikes are settled? Casting calls will continue(except for the role of Superman-Brandon Routh) and it will be business as usual until there is a work stoppage or a court order stopping further productions. Hopefully there will be neither. Nobody is saying that a Justice League Movie won't be made. Only that there are pending issues which may delay or even scrap it if not settled(the latter being unlikely). But fear not LOL, as Spongebob once said to Patrick Star: "Your genius is showing"!
  16. While I agree that Tom Welling SHOULD play Superman (all of us Smallville fans are dying to see him really fly), I definitely want to see him do other things (and The Fog doesn't count). So Tahmoh Penikett from BSG.
Erica Durance would be interesting for WW. And Kate beckinsale would need platform boots from Mars to play WW, she's too petite, A$$-kicking aside.
I can see Eva Mendes too but if you go that route, please just give it to Gina Torres. She'd rock WW like a goddess should.
RR as Flash is a given.
GL - really depends on which GL steps up. How about Jesse L Martin from L&O?
Aquaman - uh, CW had it wrong to not grab Justin Hartley for his own show. He can play Green Arrow, Aquaman, or anyone else he wants in my book.
Martian Manhunter - have to give that more thought.
  17. AOL is part of the Time Warner company, along with WB. They have been doing polling of their users, since even before Superman Returns came out. They run a poll about every few months, on some variation of Superman Returns, Routh, Welling, Smallville, possible sequels, and so forth. Even at the height of Routh's popularity, when SR was ending it's run in theaters, Welling was beating the pants off of him in head-to-head polls. Welling was doing 3 to 1 numbers. He was polling especially well amoung teens.
    WB suits were not happy.
Time Warner put on the most massive publicity push for Routh that they ever have, for any actor. Routh was on the cover of all Warner mags, and was featured on the inside pages, of their mags, for every month, for a year, leading up to SR. All of Warner's websites featured Routh. All Warner's syndicated entertainment shows featured Routh extensively, for a year.
In the summer of 2006, every single aisle of grocery stores had Routh's face on multiple products. It was impossible to walk down any aisle of any convience store, without seeing Routh's face. From cereal boxes, to grocery bags, and beyond. Routh was on billboards on every major highway in every city in the country.
Every single division of Warner put everything they had into promoting Routh and SR.
When they got back the general audience polling results, it was devastating. They had failed on a scope, they had not believed possible.
Routh is a pariah to them, because he represents their own failure. They can't look at him without seeing their own powerlessness. Before, they were firm in their belief of their own power, as public opinion makers and believed, that like Atlas, they could shift the world, if only Warner put every bit of muscle behind it.
They hate Welling just as much, because he equally represents that failure, and because he has sharks for lawyers, who are screwing them everyway possible on the Smallville contract.
Neither of them will be in JL. Bank on it.

  20. Brandon Routh has been signed to play Superman in the Justice League movie. He signed a three movie deal with Warner Bros. to play Superman when he signed on for Superman Returns and this movie will fulfill one of the two remaining movies. The cost of the Justice League movie will be close to 200 million dollars. Tom Welling's price tag would drive the cost higher and casting someone else while having to pay Routh would drive it even higher. Brandon Routh has been cast as Superman in the Justice League movie. Bank on it!
  21. HENRY SIMMONS should be cast as The Green Lantern. He has the look and the build plus he is good actor (...was on NYPD Blue...curently on SHARK). Jamie Foxx would not make a good GL.
  22. Check out this link from comics2film. It explains the pending strike and the effects it couldhave on a Justice League film. If you read between the lines it explains that LOL is an idiot!

  23. Another link with ramifications for a Superman sequel and the Justice League movie. Proving once again that LOL is an idiot!

  24. Check out this link at filmick. Be warned it has some spoilers for Superman The Man of Steel and if you pay attention to the article you will see that there is a tie in with the Justice League movie. If you had any doubt about who is playing Superman in the Justice League movie (Brandon Routh)this article should remove at least some of those doubts. Oh and it proves beyond all doubt that LOL is an idiot!

  25. Is that the smell of sweaty desperation in Routh's lone fan?
Are you trying to convince others, or yourself?
  26. I am not trying to convince anyone eer or eeyore whatever your anme is. I actually like Tom Welling and would be just happy with him in the role as Brandon Routh. The facts are the facts and I know what has already happened and Brandon Routh will be Superman in the Justice League movie. I know this depresses you, eer, but then again eeyore has always been depressed.
  27. Keanu Reeves is a crazy suggestion, but it could also be crazy cool. It is so insane, that it just might work. People would want to see how it turned out anyway.
  28. What's happening to my Keanu Reeves post? It keeps disappearing.
Maybe the Matrix has caught my signal.
  29. Messi- I was just wondering what is so absurd about Jude Law being Superman? Obviously, I would love to see Brandon Routh reprise his role in the Justice League movie, but I think that Jude Law would make an interesting choice. I am not beyond entertaining the idea of other actors for the part, I am simply a fan of his work and think he would do an excellent job. However, I am not a fan of Tom Welling. There is NO way in He!! I will ever be convinced otherwise. Tom Welling does not have the acting chops to pull off The Man of Steel on the big screen. He does an o.k./good job at playing Clark Kent ( I will concede as much), but the real question is can he play Superman.....Don't think too hard because the answer is NO. His silver screen career has left much to be desired and becasue of this FACT he can not be seriously considerded for the role. Maybe a Hallmark movie might be a more appropriate choice.
  30. Being a fan is one thing, but appropriateness for the role is another. I'm a huge Nic Cage fan, but he would have been a terrible Superman. Anthony Hopkins is twice the actor of anyone we could name, but he isn't Superman. Jude Law is entirely wrong for Superman, and being his biggest an in the world isn't going to change that.
  31. Check- You make and intriguing point, however I am not a Jude Law superfan. As I stated earlier I just think that he would make an interesting choice, similiar to Heath Ledger portraying The Joker in the upcoming Batman movie. Having said that, who do you envision for the role of Superman? I agree with the point you make about appropriateness over simply being a fan....with this in mind please do NOT choose Tom Welling as many have based on the Smallville series, for some reason I believe you have better taste than that. I look forward to reading your next post.
  32. can people just stop with the Routh in JLA nonsense? It's NEVER going to happen. Dan Lin and the guys heading up JLA all HATED Superman Returns and just spent months convincing Alan Horn to go with the JLA project instead of a sequel to Superman Returns. To think that they're suddenly going to turn around and use the face of that failed project in their movie is absurd.
Routh doesn't have a contract for 3 Superman movies. The studio has an OPTION deal to use him for 3 if they want. If they don't want him (which Lin and Co. surely DON'T) they just dont pick up the option and dont have to pay him a bloody red cent.
  33. Brian, you need to check your facts. The option you speak of will cost Warners a lot of money. The "options" are contractual obligations that Warners can opt out of if they choose but not without paying a large sum of money to Routh. Warners is moving ahead with the Justice League movie and the Superman Returns sequel. They would not have had Kevin Spacey recently sign a contract for the sequel if they felt the first movie was a failure. Oh but wait, I am sure they can option out of their contract with Kevin spacey for free as well. I like Tom Welling in Smallville and I think he ould be a good choice in the Justice League movie to play Superman. The fact is, he is not in it and Brandon Routh is. Even if Dan Lin and the guys heading up JLA all hated Superman Returns that does not mean they cannot work with Brandon Routh. Dan Lin and the guys heading up this movie are not writing the check for this movie. Warner Bros. is and they do not want to spend any more than they have to because this movie is going to cost upwards of 200 million dollars. Casting someone else as Superman while "opting out" of their contract with Brandon Routh would drive the cost even higher. The announcement of who is cast to play Superman will be the last character casting announced for this movie so until then the speculators and wishful thinkers will continue to discuss this issue but in the end, like it or not it is Brandon Routh who has been cast as Superman. One other note, the impending strike and the court battle over the rights to Superman will both impact the Justice League movie and the Superman Returns sequel.
  34. Batman: Gerard Butler - if it won't be Bale.
Superman: Tom Welling - because he's the best.
Wonder Woman: Kate Beckinsale - beauty and strength.
Aquaman: Thomas Jane - a fish talker you can fear.
Martian Manhunter: Christopher Judge - unless it is CGI.
Flash: Shia LaBeouf - young and wry.
Green Lantern: Roger R. Cross - see 24.
  35. Why did the board turn Judge's first name into swear symbols?
It is Chr1st0pher Judge. From Stargate SG-1.
    Maybe that'll go through.
  36. Having Tom Welling as a grown-up Superman is really, really kind of laughable. Not that I have anything against Welling--really, I don't. I used to be a fan of Smallville, until I just couldn't stand the direction they were taking the franchise in and we had to part ways. But Tom Welling himself has said on many occasions that the thing that appealed to him about Smallville is that a) it's about Clark Kent, not Superman, and b) he didn't have to wear the costume. He's not exactly the most talkative of actors in the first place, and I'm sure that if you paid him enough, he'd change his mind, but the last I heard, he was still adamantly against it. The studio, furthermore, has also said it wouldn't use Brandon Routh or Christian Bale, mostly because Christian Bale is filming elsewhere, and refuses to be Batman without Christopher Nolan, who (I don't think) is involved with this JLA project. Finally, Aquaman isn't going to be in this movie, and I don't think Ryan Reynolds is going to be the Flash, because they wanted to go with a younger Flash who has a crush on Wonder Woman (and that's from the script previews that were leaked on/to UGO)
  37. Superman: Tom Welling
    Batman: Christian Bale
    Wonder Woman: EVA GREEN (!!)

These castings would be my top picks. The other castings seem good to me so far. I especially would like to see Eva Green for Wonder Woman. I looked up some pictures of her and with no doubt, i can say she would be amazing as Wonder Woman. She has the well, look. She has those sharp blue eyes and black hair. She also is a great actress.
  38. these r the people who i think should play the jla characters

    superman-tom welling
    wonder woman-kate beckinsale
    martian manhunter-vin diesel
    green lanturn-jamie foxx
    flash-ryan reynolds
    aquaman-ryan philippe
  39. Tom Welling: Superman! Period!
  40. I AM A COMIC FANATIC AND I LOVE THAT COMICS ARE BEING DEVELOPED IN MOVIES. SOME MOVIES IN THE PAST HAVE BEEN GREAT ADAPTATIONS TO THE COMICS (BATMAN BEGINS) BUT SOME WERE NOT EVEN CLOSE (SUPERMAN RETURNS-GOOD MOVIE BUT BAD CHOICE OF SUPERMAN) BUT IF YOU WANT A MOVIE THAT TRUE CAPTURES THE COMIC IN ITS FULNESS, YOU MUST HAVE ACTORS TO PORTRAY THEM ACCURATELY TO THE "T". HERE ARE MY PICKS FOR THE JUSTICE LEAGUE CAST (PLEASE TAKE IN HIGH CONSIDERATION BECAUSE I HAVE):

-BATMAN: CHRISTIAN BALE WOULD OF BEEN THE NUMBER ONE CHOICE FOR BATMAN, SINCE HE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO BEST REPRESENTED BATMAN OUT OF THE WHOLE FRANCHISE, BUT SINCE HE WON'T BE, GERARD BUTLER( 300) IS THE 2ND BEST TO REPRESENT THE DARK KNIGHT OF GOTHAM. HE HAS THE LOOK, EDGE OF BOTH BRUCE WAYNE AND BATMAN, AND PLUS HE IS FITTED FOR IT, 2ND TO BALE.

-SUPERMAN: THIS IS A NO-BRAINER. WHEN I FIRST HEARD ABOUT THE "SUPERMAN RETURNS" FILM, THE ACTOR WHO CAME INTO MIND WITHOUT A DOUBT TO PLAY THAT ROLE WAS CW 11'S VERY OWN TOM WELLING OF "SMALLVILLE". HE HAS THE ATTITUDE, BUILD, AND LOOK TO PLAY THE ROLE OF THE MAN OF STEEL, IN COSTUME. EVEN THOUGH IN THE T.V. SHOW HE IS ADAPTING CLARK KENT DURING HIS PRE-SUPERMAN COSTUME DAYS, HE IS THE 1 AND ONLY CHOICE OF A SUPERMAN. NIC CAGE??? ARE YOU SERIOUS?? MAYBE BIZARRO

-WONDER WOMAN: THIS WAS THE HARDEST CHARACTER TO FIND A SUITABLE ACTRESS TO PLAY. SOME PEOPLE ALREADY HAVE THEIR PICKS ALREADY (BECKINSALE, BIEL, EVA GREEN) BUT HERE ARE MY PICKS FOR WONDER WOMAN: JESSICA BIEL( TOUGH AS NAILS AND CAN DO ME AND THE REST OF THE WORLD JUSTICE IN SOME STAR-SPANGLED TIGHTS), SOPHIA MARTINEZ( I DON'T KNOW HER CREDENTIALS OR MOVIE ROLES SHE PLAYED IN BUT SHE HAS THAT LOOK OF AN AMAZONIAN PRINCESS), CHRISTINA MILIAN IS A GOOD CHOICE( IF SHE DOESNT MAKE THE CUT, I WOULD HIGHLY 100% CHOOSE HER FOR THE ROLE OF ZATANNA IF A JL2 MOVIE IS GOING TO BE IN THE MAKES AFTER THE 1ST JL MOVIE), AND FINALLY ANGIE HARMON ( SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND IF YOU REALLY EXAMINE HER AND W.W., THEY LOOK SO MUCH ALIKE, SAME ATTITUDE, FEATURES, ETC.) I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND JESSICA BIEL OR ANGIE HARMON

-THE FLASH: RYAN RENOLDS IS A GOOD CHOICE FOR THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE. ALSO MENTIONED BEFORE, SHIA LA BEOUF IS ALSO A GOOD CHOICE TOO. IM LEANING MORE TO REYNOLDS FOR HIS MORE COMEDIC ATTRIBUTES WHICH MAKES FLASH WHO HE IS.

-GREEN LANTERN: THIS IS ONE CHARACTER YOU WOULD HAVE TO GET RIGHT, DEPENDING ON WHICH G.L. YOU WANT TO CAST. IF IT'S HAL JORDAN G.L., THEN I WOULD CAST JAKE GYLENNAL OR RYAN REYNOLDS, BECAUSE OF THERE RESEMBLANCE TO HAL AND THE CHARACTERISTICS THEY SHARE BUT IF IT'S THE MILITANT SGT. JOHN STEWART, I WOULD DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY CHOOSE KEITH DAVID. HE EMBODIES THE SAME MORAL FIBERS OF G.L. JOHN STEWART. IF HE IS NOT AVAILABLE, THEN YOU CAN CAST AS MY 2ND PICK ROGER R.CROSS (24). HE ALSO RESEMBLES HIM IN A YOUTHFUL WAY. MY 3RD AND FINAL PICK IS COMMON, THE RAPPER. JAMIE FOXX IS A GREAT ACTOR BUT HE DOESNT HAVE THE LOOK OR THE EDGE TO PLAY G.L. JOHN STEWART.

-AQUAMAN: FIRST OFF, RYAN PHILLIPPE IS THE WORST CHOICE FOR AQUAMAN. HE DOESNT HAVE ANYTHING TO OFFER THIS ROLE. NOW THOMAS JANE, HE IS AN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR THE ROLE OF THE KING OF ALL WATER ANIMALS. JUST GIVE HIM A LITTLE BLONDE IN HIS HAIR AND HE'S READY TO GO.

-MARTIAN MANHUNTER: WHOEVER SAID KEANU REEVES TO PLAY THE ROLE ARE REALLY TRYING TO MAKE THIS MOVIE SUCK REALLY BAD. HE DOESNT FIT NOTHING CLOSE TO M.M. MY MAIN PICK FOR MARTIAN MANHUNTER IS DJIMON HOUNSOU (BLOOD DIAMOND). SOME MAY SAY THAT IM CRAZY FOR THIS PICK, BUT HE IS VERY WELL CLOSELY ASSOCIATED TO MARTIAN MANHUNTER. HIS SPEECH, HIS CALM DEMEANOR IS ALL THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MARTIAN. IF NOT HIM, FOR SOME REASON, MY 2ND AND FINAL PICK IS CHRISTOPHER JUGDE(STARGATE SG-1/ATLANTIS). HES ANOTHER CHOICE FOR THE GREEN ALIEN.

THESE ARE MY PICKS FOR THE JUSTICE LEAGUE CAST. I HOPE YOU HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.
  41. My husband and I are big comic readers and (embarrassing to admit) Tivo Justice League Unlimited on Boomerang most nights to watch at breakfast. We've been playing around with "who we'd cast if we were in charge of the live action movie" for about a year and here's our consensus. Note: it's already been announced and confirmed that Routh, Bale, Biel and Welling are out of the running so they're non-entities in our dream cast.

Batman: Wentworth Miller--he's built, smart, broody, and just about perfect for Bats/Bruce. For those of you unfamiliar with him from prison break, here's a link (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/granitz/5681/Events/5681/12325872.jpg.html?hint=nm0589505)

Wonder Woman: Gina Torres--she has the beauty, the height, the ummmm...breasts, and the fighting skills. (Second choice for this role is Eva Mendes if they're going for a slightly younger cast)

Superman: David Boreanaz--he's got the all-american looks, square jaw, fighting skills, he'd never be caught dead in those stupid little red "manties" Routh was forced to wear, he's a boy scout type, plus he can act. (The alternate choice for the role would be Robert Sean Leonard, first noticed in Dead Poet's Society, now co-starring in House, he's got the same Superman qualities as Boreanaz. Here's a link to a pic: http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0226935/pic_03_300dpi.jpg.html?path=pgallery&path_key=Leonard%2C%20Robert%20Sean&seq=2)

Flash: Sean William Scott--if the director is going with "Barry Allen" then Sean is perfect. He's slim, goofy, not quite handsome, easy going, and would be totally believeable.

Green Lantern: The rumor is that the director wants to go with John Stewart's GL, I suggest looking at Romany Malco from Weeds, 40 Year Old Virgin and Blades of Glory among other things. He can do "nice" just as easily as "militant and commanding". Again, a link for those unfamiliar with him. (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/granitz/6328/Events/6328/ActorRoma_Leste_14597396_400.jpg.html?path=pgallery&path_key=Malco,%20Romany)

Martian Man Hunter: I think the obvious choice here is Djimon Hounsou. He's got the look, the height, the voice, the regal attitude and the perfect personality to pull off the role. From Alias to In America to Blood Diamonds, he never fails to deliver.

Aquaman: although he's not an original member of the Justice League, people keep casting the role, so I'd like to pitch Hunter Parrish, perhaps best known as "Silas" in Weeds. He's a little young, but has an impressive resume. He's also got a swimmer's build, great hair (which is blonde on Weeds), and is a decent actor. Another link for those unfamiliar (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/granitz/6328/Events/6328/ActorHunt_Leste_14597398_400.jpg.html?hint=nm1446060).

One thing that's kind of bugging me is that nobody has mentioned Hawk Girl. She's an original JL member. I have 2 choices for the part and I think either of them would do an excellent job: Jennifer Garner or Kristin Bell. Both are fighters, both are good actresses and used to "action" and both are beautiful. Whichever wasn't chosen would be a good choice for Black Canary if she's added to the second JL movie (the plan is to do 3 in a 10 year period).

One last note: if Green Arrow is in the first movie or gets added to either of the other 2, the ideal choice would be Justin Hartley. He totally revived Smallville in season 6 as Green Arrow and made the part his own. He'd be the perfect choice to add to my perfect dream cast.

Thanks for reading to the end, you can now flame away :)
  42. I grew up loving comic books. You have to think of an actor or actress that would embrace the character so this would be my list.

    SUPERMAN- TOM WELLING

    WONDER WOMAN- SOPHIA BUSH

    GREEN LANTERN- JAIME FOX

    FLASH- SHY LABUFF

    AQUAMAN-RYAN PHILIPE

    SUPER GIRL- ANNA FARRIS

    BATMAN- RYAN RENOLDS
  43. Here is the latest news out of Hollywood. The Justice League movie is back to CGI/Motion Capture and there will be “some Famous” voices in the movie. This makes alot of sense especially considering the pending writers/actors strike. The script has already been completed and voice over will not be affected by a strike.
  44. OK first off, the cast needs to be a mix of ages to help with interests. Plus, is every super the same age, i mean come on! Also don't hire all big names get some actors who can support not fight for the title. With that here are some choices for the cast.
    AQUAMAN- Paul Walker/Forbes March/Jason Lewis
    GREEN LANTERN- Shamar Moore/Common
    MARTIAN MANHUNTER- Wentworth Miller
    FLASH- Ryan Reynolds
SUPERMAN- (if no welling/routh)give it to
    Dean Cain- he knows how?
BATMAN- (if no bale)give it to
    David Boreanaz- why not?
WONDERWOMAN- This one is tough, i don't have
    a pick for her? except-
    Beckinsale or (Rose McGowan)
    --------------------------------------------------
Also for the future cast of the JLA?

    ZATANNA- Rose McGowan(definitely 1st)
    BLACK CANARY- Victoria Pratt
    VIXEN- Vivica A. Fox
    HUNTRESS- Alyssa Milano
    NIGHTWING- Milo Ventimiglia
    ATOM- Joseph Lawrence
    HAWKMAN- Chad M. Murray
    HAWKGIRL- Sophia Bush
    GREEN LANTERN- Forbers March

So that is my picks for the JLA just look it over and see what you like.
    B.G. OUT!!!
  45. Justice League is no longer moving faster than a speeding bullet. The Executives at Warner Bros. let the options lapse on the young cast that director George Miller had chosen to play DC superheroes. The studio confirmed Wednesday the project is on indefinite hold and may be scrapped altogether.
Cast members were informed late Tuesday their options would not be exercised.
Warner Bros. is now looking to move ahead with a sequel to Superman Returns as soon as the writers strike is settled.
  46. tom welling-superman
  47. Charisma Carpenter would make a very good WonderWoman. Why does the actress has to be A-List. Get somebody fresh for the part. I don't agree with you on the Kate Beckinsale. Her face is to hard for the part.An her body is not filled out for the part. Take a look at Charisma pics...
