Weigh In: Who Should The Rock Play In ‘Shazam’?

The Rock Captain Marvel may be charged with protecting mankind, but that’s nothing compared to being charged with finding the right actor to fill his heroic tights.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson told MTV News he was in discussions to play both Captain Marvel AND the villainous Black Adam in the upcoming superhero flick “Shazam,” and he’s calling on fans of the character to chime in with their picks.

“It’s up to the fans,” he told me repeatedly when I interviewed him this past Saturday.

So we’re opening up the floor to you. Do you think he’s right for either role, and if so, which one? It’s all yours to decide. But, remember, to borrow a turn of phrase from another superhero, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

It *HAS* to be Black Adam, I've said since I hard they were bring Capt. Marvel to the screens that The Rock would be perfect for the part of Adam, similar build, great actor, could bring something great to the character

The Rock could of course handle both roles at the same time, with just two different faces for each character .. but as a choice must be made, I think he'd be «better» as Black Adam cause The Rock is a genius at playing bad guys.

He should pitch himself for the roles of Prince Namor in "The Sub-Mariner" and Luke Cage from "Power Man / Heroes for Hire" fame

I believe that the Rock should play as Shazam becuase the movies that he made so far, he was always played as a good guy....so he would play an excellent role as Shazam.

I would like for The Rock not to be involved at all. Nothing personal, I just think he's wrong for either role. If "Shazam" is going to be taken seriously as a franchise, it needs to avoid the goofy sensibilities of "The Fantastic Four" films. It has been said that this could be the superhero "Harry Potter", and for that to happen we need someone with more gravitas than Dwayne Johnson. Walk away Rock, this is too much for you. If you can't decide which role to play how can you be right for either?

I think if he plays anybody it should be Black Adam, but I also agree with Jeff Spry that he shouldn't be involved. I'd rather have an unknown than the Rock.

That's no offense towards him, but why does he have to be in every movie? I mean he's already going to be in the remake of "Get Smart", and his involvement is the only negative I've heard about that movie. Again no offense meant, but I'd rather have seen someone else in the role he's in.

The role is Captain Marvel, shazam is the magic word. That bit of nitpicking over with, I think the part of Black Adam (and note that Black Adam is far from a simple villain) is clearly a better choice for Johnson. I fail to see any comparison with the Potter franchise and little hope that they could compete with that level of success. I'm not sure the big red cheese will sell under any circumstances (he has trouble carrying his own book at this point) but I am certainly willing to see it.

Ok... a long time ago there was an actor named Arnold... and he was interviewing for a role in a film to be the protagonist (good guy)... but the director though asked him.. "can you just sit there and not say anything".... that movie became the a little known film called TERMINATOR..... I'm just saying.

If he's really gonna be in this thing, then definately Black Adam. He's got the look. Also, Shazam shouldn't try to be a serious franchise. The whimsy and sense of wonder and adventure are most of the charm and definately part of the intention of the character (Captain Marvel). I just hope Billy is the Captain in the film.

If the Rock HAS to be in this movie, I would prefer him to be Black Adam. I don't think he would make a good Captain Marvel. Altogether I'd rather he not be in this movie.

Black Adam without a doubt. Especially considering that Black Adam requires a certain edge of "Lost Hero", much as "the Rock" has done several times throughout his career.

Besides. He fits the look of Black Adam. Doesn't fit the Look of Captain Marvel all that much.

Black Adam! That is perfect casting. Adam is by far the superior character. Way more depth to him. Marvel is essentially a 13 year old kid that turns into an adult but acts like a kid so unless Dwayne wants his catch phrase to be "Holy Moley" I suggest he sticks with the guy who pokes eyes out the back of peoples skulls. Hmm maybe that isn't good to be known for either. Either way the movie should kick ass.

The Rock should definitely play BLACK ADAM. He's got the darker skin tone, the hairline is similar, and overall he just LOOKS like more of a Black Adam than Captain "Boyscout" Marvel.

black adam makes a bit more sense, what with rock's coloring, build, and that smile is...unsettling. in addition to the visual, he's not exactly a Shakespearean, and frankly, i don't see adam speaking a whole lot. his job is to be bigger than the captain, darker in every sense, and mean.

i think if the rock isn't playing up his valiant badass side that tends to come out in his 'hero' roles, he's a capable character actor. the rock IS black adam.

Black Adam is an interesting and complex character that the Rock actually looks somewhat like. Captain Marvel is an outdated joke of a character that the Rock looks nothing like.

Doesn't seem like a hard choice to me.

I think he should play both! He should be the "first" Captain Marvel until the wizard Shazam demotes him for turning evil, he then becomes Black Marvel or Black Adam. Billy Batson would then be his replacement as the "new" Captain Marvel.

He should play Namor the Sub-Mariner dammit(footie wings for the win!) But in a Shazam movie- definitely Black Adam!
