Weigh In: Who Should The Rock Play In ‘Shazam’?

The Rock Captain Marvel may be charged with protecting mankind, but that’s nothing compared to being charged with finding the right actor to fill his heroic tights.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson told MTV News he was in discussions to play both Captain Marvel AND the villainous Black Adam in the upcoming superhero flick “Shazam,” and he’s calling on fans of the character to chime in with their picks.

“It’s up to the fans,” he told me repeatedly when I interviewed him this past Saturday.

So we’re opening up the floor to you. Do you think he’s right for either role, and if so, which one? It’s all yours to decide. But, remember, to borrow a turn of phrase from another superhero, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

Having just read up on both characters, I definitely would prefer to see him in the role of Black Adam instead of Captain Marvel. He would work the role of Black Adam!

I think Dwayne should play Black Adam, he looks almost exactly like him and i'd like to see him play the bad guy in this one, i think it would be great!

For anyone whose read anything about Black Adam in the last 3-4 years knows he's now one of the top heroes/villians/antiheroes in the DC universe. As long as Black Adam is the same as in the comics The Rock should play him. Heck I'd rather see a Black Adam movie. Captain Marvel is kind of a tool.

The Rock would be an awesome Black Adam. He's got the look and after seeing Walking Tall I know he could play a really dark anti-hero character and make him really compelling.

He should play both roles. If they did the makeup right, I think he could pull off both roles and also show a wider range of talent by portraying both characters.

I think he must be Captain Marvel, I don't have any doudt he may be a great Black Adam but we need to consider that he is in fact a good choice for Marvel too(he has carissma and the looks too) and on the other hand, do you have another good choice of an actor to play Marvel? anyone? I don´t think so...

He has this childdish smile that would portray perfectly the boy inside a superhero body.

Maybe the best option is him playing both characters. I will vote for that.

Gotta say, Black Adam would open up a whole new realm of career opportunities, it's the best part in the film, and would allow Dwayne to return to his successful heel days from wrestling.

I think it would be incredible if he managed to pull off both rolls. He fits both characters, and it would just be entertaining to see a nutty proffessor/austin powers kind of deal in a comic book movie. I think he should go for it and i garauntee itll be a hit.

I have to agree with Most everyone. The role of Black Adam is perfect for the Rock. Brandon Molale would be an inspired choice for Captain Marvel. If the script calls for the origin of Black Adam, the role of the skinny Egyptian Teth-Adam could be played by Rob Schnieder. I've always thought that they could play siblings or something.

I could see him in both roles, actually, but if I had to choose, I'd say go for Black Adam. I think he'd be a great Capt Marvel, but an even better bad guy.

Nah, seriously, I think he'd be perfect for Namor, but since Warners has approached him for Shazam!, I've gotta say Black Adam (or Teth-Adam for my fellow Fawcett-heads). He's already pulled off the middle-Eastern tyrant with the Scorpion King and he'd be able to flash the People's Eyebrow and cultivate those awesome Vulcan-esque side-burns again! Also, Rock's been a heel with great success in the WWE, but I don't think we've seen him be downright malicious be4, certainly not since he the Mankind "I Quit" match. Doom not withstanding! *lol*

I looked up a picture of Black Adam on the net and I thought it was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He should play Black Adam. I feel that if he plays both roles it would make the movie into a comedy rather than a true comic book adaptation.

The Rock showed he could act in the outstanding Gridiron Gang, and I feel he should take roles that flex and stretch his acting skills. Villains are usually meatier parts, therefore the obvious choice is Black Adam, unless this version of Captain Marvel resembles Tom Hank's Big, a boy inside an adult's body.
