Weigh In: Who Should The Rock Play In ‘Shazam’?

The Rock Captain Marvel may be charged with protecting mankind, but that’s nothing compared to being charged with finding the right actor to fill his heroic tights.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson told MTV News he was in discussions to play both Captain Marvel AND the villainous Black Adam in the upcoming superhero flick “Shazam,” and he’s calling on fans of the character to chime in with their picks.

“It’s up to the fans,” he told me repeatedly when I interviewed him this past Saturday.

So we’re opening up the floor to you. Do you think he’s right for either role, and if so, which one? It’s all yours to decide. But, remember, to borrow a turn of phrase from another superhero, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

Black Adam he need a villain role. He is better suited to stretch his acting than just playing the good guy every movie, it would be a welcome change for him. My vote hands down will be BLACK ADAM. Just on looks alone he looks more like ADAM then CAPTAIN MARVEL. I want to see him be a villain and play a darker role.

The Rock would be a good Captain Marvel, but he'd be a GREAT Black Adam! Especially if they used the more moderen more complex version of the character. You have to think that Shazam wasn't stupid and that he had a reason for picking Black Adam in the first place. I think the Rock could really make Black Adam a great character.

Rock's best work was as a heel in WWE. Black Adam is a complex role & will be more-suited to Johnson's growing acting skills. Plus, he really looks like Black Adam!

Dwayne should definitely step into the Black and Gold and be BLACK ADAM! His look, his charisma, his skill and his talent are all a perfect match for the Black Adam character. Without question, he would be the perfect choice! Go ROCK Go!

I would say BLACK ADAM is best for Dwayne BUT he's really going to show off his acting chops for it. I enjoy The Rock in his movies that I've seen, but playing either Black Adam or Captain Marvel would require something a lot more than the roles he's been asked to play thus far. I think he can do it, but I don't know he can. But yes, my vote is definitely for BLACK ADAM.

Black Adam if he is in this film. I'm not prejudiced, but I do like consistency in casting of roles in films like this. I wouldn't want Superman to be black simply because he isn't, even though he is considered alien. For continuity issues, look at the old Batman films. In the '89 film, Harvey Dent was black, played by Billy Dee Williams. In Batman Forever, Harvey Dent/Two-Face was played by Tommy Lee Jones, who was white, & now in The Dark Knight at least Harvey Dent played by Aaron Eckhardt, who is white. My point is staying true to the source material, i.e., whatever ethnicity the character is in the comics, it needs to be that in the film, not just white. I think when they start switching back & forth it's confusing & that's not a recipe for box office success, especially when it's a high profile character like Captain Marvel.

Definitely BLACK ADAM. I would love to see him as Cap, but would be just ga-ga if he is chosen to play BA and Brandon Molale as CAPTAIN MARVEL.

Physically he resembles Black Adam more then he does Captain Marvel. And Adam would be a good part for him, but at the same time I can totally see him selling Captain Marvel with his smile alone. Look at the picture they used here, you could totally believe that he is the Big Red Cheese.

The Rock should definitely play Black Adam. He has the physique & looks for the character. Plus, he could pull it off. And it would be awesome if Brandon Molale was casted as Captain Marvel. Do a image search on the guy & see for yourself, he looks perfect for the role.

I think Black Adam is pretty Obvious, plus it would give the rock the chance to do something he hasn't done yet by playing the bad guy. I mean when he wrestled he played the bad guy a few times but in wrestling its so cheesy. this would give hime a chance to actually flex some acting muscles.

I think that Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson should play the part of Captain 'Shazam' Marvel. I think he lends himself well to looking the heroic part. Jutting chin and shiny teeth are a plus.

For the role of Teth 'Black' Adam I would prefer to see Vin Diesel. He has the more gravely voice and people have seen him in edgy roles often enough that playing the part of a complicated fallen hero and now villian could work quite well.

I don't see the Rock as Captain Marvel. That would put the reins on his personality I think, plus he just doesn't look the part. Black Adam however... I could totally see that. A wise-cracking, arrogant version of this villain would suit him well.

Black Adam all the way. I don't see him doing anything different with Captain Marvel than what he's done with the Gameplan, but playing Black Adam will give us a taste of The Rock of old. Simply put he's a great bad guy. He'd be awesome.

Oh man, Marvel for sure. I havn't seen him "heel" as I think the term is (I guess in "The Mummy" as the Scorpian guy?) but he's got an easy charisma that I'd really like to see as The Big Red Cheese. I wouldn't be opposed to him as Earth's Most Wanted Mortal, but I think Captain Marvel is the way to go-- in fact, he's a great, great pick. I'm excited about the possibility, to be quite frank.

Without a doubt, when I first heard of Dwayne Johnson being up for this film role... I instantly thought of him as Black Adam. I was very excited at the thought too. Then I had heard he was being considered to play Captain Marvel, and although I think Dwayne would make a decent Marvel I think he would be more widely accepted by fans of the SHAZAM universe as Black Adam. Dwayne would be top of most fans' SHAZAM "dream casting" lists as Black Adam for sure. He looks PERFECT for the part all around. It would be a slight stretch to play him as Marvel though. Captain Marvel should be played by someone who resembles the classic character (Superman-ish look), and acted with a very pure, young at heart innocence as his body is inhabited by a 13 year old boy. I think Dwayne Johnson could play the part, but it would be limiting versus how well he fits into and could play Black Adam. Casting him as the villain would also play off of Dwayne's great versatility as an actor and be juxtaposed to his Disney films and heroic roles.

I am a long time comic fan who has been waiting for a Captain Marvel movie for a very long time. If there one thing that kills a comic movie for me it is bad casting (like everyone in the Fantastic Four movies). Directer and plot are secondary cause you gotta get me in the door first. That being said, the Rock can't play Captain Marvel, I don't buy it. However, I do think he would be a bad ass Black Adam and I think he would enjoy the role. Brandon Molale looks exactly like the Cap, I say give him a shot.
