Weigh In: Who Should The Rock Play In ‘Shazam’?

The Rock Captain Marvel may be charged with protecting mankind, but that’s nothing compared to being charged with finding the right actor to fill his heroic tights.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson told MTV News he was in discussions to play both Captain Marvel AND the villainous Black Adam in the upcoming superhero flick “Shazam,” and he’s calling on fans of the character to chime in with their picks.

“It’s up to the fans,” he told me repeatedly when I interviewed him this past Saturday.

So we’re opening up the floor to you. Do you think he’s right for either role, and if so, which one? It’s all yours to decide. But, remember, to borrow a turn of phrase from another superhero, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

This guy has Black Adam written all over him. He not only looks like he has the body type but with some of his movies we need to see him as a bad guy at least once more. Captain Marvel is just to... clean and dosent fit him image. Oh yea, and just to throw it out there I have been told id be a great Green Lantern. Maybe not Hal Jordan but hell, I think I can fit in just well.

Anyway... I just hope Dwayne becomes Black Adam and it gets finalized before they give it to someone who turns this into another "Hulk"

Dwayne needs to play Black Adam. No offense, but Dwayne is African Canadian/Somoan. He is not the right person to play pure white as the driven snow Captain Marvel. He is tho, the perfect person to play Black Adam.

Man, what a choice. Personally, I think Rock could play a 13-year-old in a grown-up's body and being all psyched about it. But I also think Adam Sandler could do it, only better. How 'bout it? Adam Sandler as Captain Marvel vs Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson, who could easily play the driven, self-righteous, and temperamental Black Adam.

When I first heard that he was attached to the project, I thought he'd be perfect for Black Adam...he looks just like him. I just hope they make him the same badass character that he is in the comics. The kind of guy who rips another man in half in front of the press to prove a point, or pushes Psycho Pirate's mask right through his face and out the back of his head :-D

I agree 100% with everyone so far, The Rock would be badass in the role of Black Adam, and against Brandon Molale as Captain Marvel, I think we'd see one of the best superhero fights to ever hit the screen.

The Rock should play Black Adam as his complexion and ability to play a remorseless bad ass would suit him better, plus Shazam is generally portrayed as the big chinned all american white "boy". Plus as Black Adam the Rock gets to really show some "evil but with depth" rather than just comic book evil. Lastly its always good to see the "Good Guy" actor switch roles, prevents type casting, and lets us see Hollywood put him in stuff like Southland Tales!

Apart from that, if he only plays Captain Marvel, then they should get Batista to play Black Adam.

The Rock would be a very well-casted choice for Black Adam, though it might be tough to take him seriously as a bad guy... might need to take a few more acting lessons.

Captain Marvel? Please. Don't make me laugh. One of the O'Connell Brothers would be a better choice than the friggin' Rock.

He looks more like the Black Adam, at least the picture I saw. Plus I'd like to see the Rock as a villain. He was a giant scorpion once, but there was to much CG. Let see his villain shine.

When I first heard The Rock was in talks to play Shazam, I'll be honest, I was pissed off. I thought he would be horrible for the role. Then when I heard he was in talks to play Black Adam, I thought he would be PERFECT for the role. Dwayne Johnson would make a much better villain in this story than he would a hero. He's no Billy Batson, seriously. His facial features don't capture the youthful innocence of Captain Marvel. But he's got the perfect hair line, skin tone, and pointy ears for Black Adam. Honestly, I think it's a no-brainer.

Rock should play Captain Marvel. Just because he's black and Captain Marvel is white doesn't mean that the rock shouldn't play him. The Punisher has a black version of him and so does Nick Fury.

I hate to be a "bandwagon jumper", but I'd have to agree with the popular consensus that The Rock as Black Adam is inspired casting! I think that it would be cool to see him portray a villian again for a change (and probably would be more fun for him to play, for that matter!) Also, I'd love to see Patrick Warburton cast as Captain Marvel. They both would be PERFECT for their respective roles, in my opinon. Maybe Shia LaBeouf as Billy Batson? Hmmmmm....

The Rock should definitely play Black Adam for his own sanity. I find that actors really sink their teeth into playing the villain, which makes for a better performance. Let's face it, in his wrestling days the Rock was way better as the "Heel" than the "Face." Let someone else be a do-gooder, the Rock should be bad.

It's not really about Black and White. The Rock should play Black Adam because Black adam is egyptian and the Rock already has experience playing an egyptian. Plus, like everyone said, I think he'd have more fun playing the more complicated Black Adam.

The Rock has been playing the good guy practically nonstop since the Scorpion King. I say it's time that he cuts loose and lets himself play somebody with a little bit of an edge, while somebody else handles The Captain.

This is the part he was born to play, much like Michael Chiklis as The Thing or Ron Perlman as Hellboy.
