Weigh In: Who Should The Rock Play In ‘Shazam’?

The Rock Captain Marvel may be charged with protecting mankind, but that’s nothing compared to being charged with finding the right actor to fill his heroic tights.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson told MTV News he was in discussions to play both Captain Marvel AND the villainous Black Adam in the upcoming superhero flick “Shazam,” and he’s calling on fans of the character to chime in with their picks.

“It’s up to the fans,” he told me repeatedly when I interviewed him this past Saturday.

So we’re opening up the floor to you. Do you think he’s right for either role, and if so, which one? It’s all yours to decide. But, remember, to borrow a turn of phrase from another superhero, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

Captain Marvel. The Rock resembles Captain Marvel and he seems more fitting for the role, than Black Adam.

I personally think the Rock should play Black Adam... he's imposing and would give the hero the run for his money... I can just imagine...

but for Sub-Mariner? Nawww, the Rock isn't Sub-Mariner... Black Adam is the role he was born to play...

This is one of those things where an actor was meant to play the character to me. The Rock is the perfect person to play Black Adam.

Same cocky attitude, same take no mess attitude, and last but not least they both completely have the speaking in third person down.

Black Adam, hands down. For one thing I'd like an unknown to play Captain Marvel (a la Brandon Routh as Superman), but I just think The Rock would be an excellent choice and spitting image of Black Adam. The guy could be incredible as the villain.

Look at the Rock. Look at Captain Marvel. Look at Black Adam. A blind man could see which one he should be play. He looks exactly like Black Adam and looks nothing like Marvel.

BLACK ADAM!! The Rock definitely has the look to play Black Adam, plus I really want to see him do an out-and-out villainous role. No disrespect to Rock, but Doom sucked and he was only in Mummy Returns for a couple minutes (the rest was CGI).

The Rock should play Black Adam. He doesn't need a great deal of eloquent dialogue -- merely a malevolently arched eyebrow -- and then he'll unleash a good old ash-whuppin' on The "Big Red Cheese"!

The Rock should be Black Adam. I thought this when the Shazam movie was announced. I never dreamed that he would be interested in the movie. There is no other famous personality that would fit the part so perfectly. As long as the costume and attitude are like they are in the comics this would be one of the best piece of comic casting ever. Look at the cover of the new Black Adam miniseries. That is the Rock in a costume. As for Captain Marvel, i don't know if this guy can act, but man does Brandon Molale look like Captain Marvel.

The Rock should play Captain Marvel. I know he "might" look more like Black Adam but I think he is better suited to play the Captain. He is likeable. The Rock should be instrumental in making sure that a real baddie baddie character actor plays Black Adam. Someone that...when their name is mentioned for the role...everyone goes...."Oh...hell yeh!" The better the villain...the better the hero. Unless the Rock thinks he can totally play a villain to the degree it is necessary. I am hoping as well that the parts are not written all mushy and in cotton-candy style. Can't wait. SHAZAM!

The Rock should be Black Adam, he does fit a villian more than a hero. Since comic book movies have become popular I always thought The Rock should be in one. The role of Black Adam is a perfect part for The Rock to make his comic book movie debut.

Oh yeah, Black Adam. The caracter is so much profond than capt. Marvel and so much cooler. And you look the part.

Go for the villain (remember, in terminator, arnold was supposed to play the hero, then he settled for the bad guy. I don't think he regrets this today. THE VILLAIN, IN EVERY COMIC BOOK MOVIE, IS THE ONE YOU NEVER FORGET)

Black Adam. This is a continuation of the example set by the first Superman movie. An unknown should play the lead hero and a known star should play the villain. Besides, he would make a great Black Adam anyway and the costume is much cooler.

Just like Patrick Stewart IS Professor X, and JK Simmons IS J. Jonah Jameson, Rocky IS Black Adam. There is no one else on the planet who would be a better choice.

Definitely BLACK ADAM. It would be a welcome departure from the cookie cutter action hero parts that have been thrown The Rock's way. The Rock was always best as a heel anyway when he bled "bad guy" charisma. This coming from a diehard comic book AND wrestling fan.

The Rock should be Captain Marvel. SHAZAM! He would be perfect for the part even though he may resemble Black Adam, I would love to see him as Captain Marvel. He would look the part in the red suit and cape.

Black Adam all the way! One guy here said it best - 'The better the villain... the better the hero.' He's proven in past movies (i.e. Doom) that he can do the mean and evil thing. He's got the look and additude and because he's so likable and a fan fav, he may be perfect as a villian that we can connect with just as well as we do with the hero.

As an acting stand point of view, I think as a villian you'll be able to spread your wings better. Also the Black Adam is sort of a grayish villian, where in a sort of way he is kinda a good guy, could have potential for spin off's. Also lets not forget that Black Adam is total BadA$$.

I think he'd be better suited for Black Adam, simply because he looks the part and it's a chance for The Rock to play a major villain in a major movie. Although I have to say that if he decides to play Marvel, I won't be disappointed he kinda fits that part too, and The Rock could have he's own comic book movie franchise that way.

But Black Adam would be BEST!!! :P
