Weigh In: Who Should The Rock Play In ‘Shazam’?

The Rock Captain Marvel may be charged with protecting mankind, but that’s nothing compared to being charged with finding the right actor to fill his heroic tights.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson told MTV News he was in discussions to play both Captain Marvel AND the villainous Black Adam in the upcoming superhero flick “Shazam,” and he’s calling on fans of the character to chime in with their picks.

“It’s up to the fans,” he told me repeatedly when I interviewed him this past Saturday.

So we’re opening up the floor to you. Do you think he’s right for either role, and if so, which one? It’s all yours to decide. But, remember, to borrow a turn of phrase from another superhero, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

One more time, although I thought this had been settled with the interviews at ComiCon and the numerous fan petition sites....Dwayne is perfect for Black Adam - his coloring, his look. But the Capt? One and only....the comic book version, the man who looks more like him, has the age, the acting ability, the body and the background to BE a superhero....Brandon Molale. Is he unknown? No....the man has been working diligently, perfecting his craft in genres we have ALL seen iim in...HE IS CAPTAIN MARVEL. Let the studios know that the fan vote means more than anything....HE IS THE MAN!!

I've gotta say, Brandon Molale is definitely perfect for Captain Marvel. I would love to see a fight between him and the Rock. I think if Molale was cast as Captain Marvel, this could end up being a legitimately good film.

Gotta go with popular opinion here. Brandon was genetically engineered to play Captain Marvel. Need proof? Look at the side-by-side photos. Dang, that's eerie.

Gotta go with Black Adam for The Rock. Not only does he just plain look more like Adam than Marvel, but playing the villain means he gets to have more fun - especially considering Marvel's an even bigger Boy Scout than Superman.

The Rock has the look for Black Adam; I just hope he can pull off Adams Regal yet tyrannical personality. Brandon looks like a great Captain Marvel, and I here he can act too. I hope that the writers and producers on this movie take a page out of the last Superman and Batman flicks. Please don’t make this movie into some silly “cotton candy” hero movie that doesn’t merit seeing in the movie theatres. Put the Superman versus Captain Marvel politics, egos, and creator’s hard feelings behind and do this movie justice like you did with Batman and Superman. Captain Marvel is a legendary peace of the D.C universe, and should merit the same level of quality as the other D.C legends.

They should be making a Captain Mar-VELL (The Marvel Comics version- who actually owns the name) movie....his return comics are some of the best artistic and creative stuff in the world comics in a long, long time, and the character is far more deep and interesting than just "another superman"....it deals with issues like anti-war and anti-racism sentiments we all can learn from.

Seriously, check it out.

As for Dwayne, he is a great talent both on the screen and in the ring, no slight intended against him.

Come to think of it, it doesn't really matter who Johnson portrays, simply because he'd suit either role..
the only issue is that once they've cast him as either Capt. Marvel/Black Adam; who are they gonna find to cast against him?
but all in all, i gotta say he'd be great as Black Adam.. we haven't seen Johnson explore his darker roots yet =)

I think I'll be great as Black Adam and I think that they need a real young guy to be Cpt.Marvel. Like that young people will be able to feel like they were the character. But someone we don't know or someone with a little bit of experience in this kind of role could be interesting to.

I think he should consider playing Black Adam. I honestly feel that he would do a great job as that character. It would be a different role for him to play. He has played good guys for a while now, it is time for him to break the chains of playing the mister nice guy roles and do something totally different for once.

Black Adam is the right choice for Dwayne Johnson. He is the right build and look for that role. I also know that he is looking for the challenge of a different type of role from a recent interview I have read. This would give him an oppurtunity to flex his acting ability into a role where he would be in a family type movie yet not be a goody type of character and help solidify his diversity in acting. I also grew up as a comic book fan, but I also know that because it is a comic movie, it isnt always a success. The Captain America movie they made in the eighties absolutly was terrible and Superman returns made me think he shouldnt have, but I also see hope in good comic movies being made. Ironman was great as well as the Spiderman movies, and the new Hulk movie left the other hulk movies in the dust not to be remembered. The best thing I see about a Shazam movie(one that intrigues me very much) is Peter Segal and Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam. The next question is who is Captain Marvel? Got to be a good size person who can act and no not Brad Pitt.
