The choice is a clear one: take the One Ring and become a terrible queen of light, or refuse its power and diminish. For Galadriel, the Elven Lady of Lorien, the temptation is resisted and the ring denied. But not for the woman who played her. During a recent interview, a smiling Cate Blanchett insisted she would love to once again grab hold of some “Ring” mojo, and step again into Galadriel’s pointy shoes for a “Hobbit” film.
“I haven’t heard a thing [about a potential ‘Hobbit’ film],” she declared. “But, oh God, I would love to work with Hugo [Weaving] and Peter [Jackson] again.”
Blanchett is the latest “Lord of the Rings” actor to tell MTV that she’d consider playing her character again for a prequel series. Like Viggo Mortensen or Orlando Bloom, Blanchett’s character doesn’t exactly appear in “The Hobbit,” although thanks to J.R.R. Tolkien’s extensive later backstories, her insertion would be completely unproblematic. In fact, it’s hard to envision a “Hobbit” film WITHOUT Galadriel, particularly if the film covers any of the period between the defeat of Smaug and the War of the Ring.
But take notice New Line: Blanchett is interested, provided Peter Jackson is back to direct.
“I heard that someone was going to make it,” she said. “[But] It would seem very odd [without Jackson.]”
With Jackson set to direct “The Lovely Bones,” for now Blanchett says, she’s “moved on.”
“I left the elf shoes behind and the ears on the mantelpiece,” she laughed.
Galadriel in “The Hobbit” a good idea? How about the fact that Viggo, Orlando, and now Cate all want to do it - why can’t Jackson and New Line just get along? Look into the Mirror of Galadriel below and leave your comments.

Where people stand is ever more clear, Mr. Shaye and Mr. Lynne. Let’s move on with this. Let us have our Peter Jackson two-part Hobbit movie!

I want everyone possible from LOTR to show up in the Hobbit, but some of the timelines in the Appendices to LOTR make it hard to justify. Aragorn was born 2931 Third Age, and the Battle of Five Armies in the Hobbit takes place in 2941. So it’s hard to see the 10-yr. old Aragorn–no matter how precocious he might be with that Numenorean blood–slicing and dicing orcs to defend the Shire. Of course, Galadriel is thousands of years old and could easily been worked into the story, esp. in the meetings of the White Council (Gandalf, Saruman, Elrond, Galadriel, etc.) taking place around the time of the Hobbit to ascertain whether it was Sauron that had set up shop in Dol Guldur (southern Mirkwood). But what’s a Tolkien flick without Viggo?!?!

I think that the only thing that New Line could be dumber about than NOT going with Peter Jackson and bringing back the majority of the LOTR crew for a 2 part Hobbit would be to make a movie about snakes on a plane or something ridiculous like that, LOL!!! Hey wait a minute…….. :O

It would be a shame to not see PJ continue creating his truly amazing vision of Middle Earth. A key scene- in which Bilbo finds the ring- has already been filmed. So let him fill in around thst crucial scene and do the rest. If the original cast(and crew) are keen to see it done- let it be done! The rest of us are keen to pay to see it on the Big Screen, then add the dvd’s to our collection of “Extended Editions” of the Trilogy.
And let’s not forget the all-important merchandising market. Many shekels to be made for New Line in that department!
Let “The Hobbit” happen- with Peter Jackson at the helm.

NewLine need Jackson and Jackson wants to do the movies so it will probably happen.
I’m guessing though that Jackson won’t direct the hobbit movies but will be on board as tech advisor or some other fancy title.
With him at least associated with the movie they will be able to attract the stars back who appeared in the LOTR and of course, the special effects company which will be needed if they want to maintain the ‘feel’ of the LOTR.

The board is set, the pieces are moving… well… not at all, but it’s just a good thing to talk about it.
But we are missing the King. And the King in “The Hobbit” is not Viggo Mortensen.
Somebody should go and ask Ian Holm how he feels, if he feels good and if he has pondered the possibility to shoot another film, maybe with the help of CGI.
We all know that everybody who shot LOTR would like to return… who wouldn’t? and with Peter Jackson as a director. NewLine…c’mon! what are you doing???

I think Ian Holm said he didn’t think he could do it because he already in his 70s–around 76-ish. What with face overlay possible, and also the CGI technique used in X3, it might be possible to have a size double do the Hobbit stuff, a body double do the full-size stuff, and face replace all of it and ADR Ian’s voice–but the production time needed to do that, and the cost seem prohibitive.
I like Ian Holm’s portrayal of Bilbo and hope the producers (whoever they are) can fit him in, but, let’s face it– I’m waiting to see Smaug!!

Sadly, Ian H is far too old to play the 50 year old Bilbo. But that doesn’t mean he can’t be in it, possibly as a scene where he’s telling the story to his young nephew Frodo, and it’s filmed as flashback. As for Viggo there isn’t any way to work Aragorn in, but there’s no reason V couldn’t play Arathorn (Aragorn’s dad) with a little help from prosthetics.

Galadriel doesn’t exactly appear “in” the Hobbit, but Gandalf repeatedly leaves to go to meetings of the White Council, and ultimately they attack the Necromancer(Sauron) at Dol Guldur….this all happens “off screen” in the book, but very, very easily the movie could just choose to actually show it, thus allowing characters like Galadriel OR Saruman to pop up again…

Good for her. It could be quite a wait though unfortunately what with New Line being ordered to ante up $125,000 in fines for not delivering court ordered documents in time for Peter Jackson’s camp to review. They now have 21 days to file an audit (including emails) or Jackson will be able to personally stroll through New Line’s offices and snoop. What does all this do for the possibility of Jackson helming “The Hobbit” - read more on my blog: http://marketsaw.blogspot.com

I’m afraid trying to shoehorn in a Viggo appearance as Arathorn runs up against the backstory as stated in the appendices: Arathorn died fighting orcs when Aragorn was very little. This was the main reason Aragorn was subsequently raised by his mother Gilraen in the relative safety of Rivendell.

Do remember that the plan is for 2 movies: first, the movie with the Hobbit book storyline, and the second, the storyline is set between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. So it’s entirely possible to have Cate Blanchett as Galadriel and Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, in the second movie.
Peter Jackson should be the one to do it. But the advantage is on Mr. Jackson’s side; New Line is loosing the rights next year, and it seems there’s a general consensus amongst the directors that it should be made by Peter Jackson, and no one else. If New Line decides to finally take Jackson, they will lose something (monetary compromises perhaps). If not, they will lose everything!
And Saul Zentz, who owns JRR Tolkien’s rights, says he will take Jackson when New Line’s license has ended…

With regard to Aragorn appearing in a Hobbit film.
As has been said, in the books he was 10 years old at the time, but Peter Jacksons films have already altered the timeline by dropping the 17 year gap between Bilbo’s party and the start of Frodo’s quest.
So in the “filmverse” Aragorn would be in his mid twenties at the time of “The Hobbit”.
There even is some footage already shot of a younger looking Aragorn meeting Arwen for the first time which could be incorporated into a new film.

i would love the hobbit to be made but it just wouldnt work if Ian Holm wasnt Bilbo. it would have to be him otherwise when you have different actors and different directors it wouldnt have the same feel as the triolgy and it would be good for Aragorn to appear but he would only be 10yrs old would this really make sense???

honestly, after reading “the hobbit” three times, lady galadriel isn’t shown, yet she dwells in lorien. it would be odd if she is not shown in the movie considering she’s been alive for three thousand years, from the beginning of the time of the Nolderian people. but jackson will figure out a way to put her in there. b/c he’s cool like that. and ian holm has to play bilbo, or i’ll scream. i don’t know how aragorn or legolas come into the tail of the hobbit, so they techincally shouldn’t be in it. because a lot of tolkien fans like myself will get confused and really really mad. i know viggo is awesome and so is aragorn but it just doesn’t work out. even as much as i want it to.

PJ is notorious for playing with time. Frodo is supposed to be much older in LOTR, so i don’t think its hard to imagine bringing people back. IN addition, much more time goes by from when Bilbo leaves Frodo the ring and when Frodo sets out. So in PJ’s version, Bilbo isn’t much older than Aragorn — I think PJ needs to be careful. But if he did a movie inbetween the two… would lvoe to see:
1. Aragorn meeitng Gandalf (happens after hobbit)
2. Gloin going to Moria
3. Aragorn finding Gollum
4. Really wish Legolas fought in the war of the 5 armies - love to see him there!
6. Bilbo adopting Frodo

One of the charming things about a story like the hobbit is that we share in bilbo’s adventure. He leaves the familiar life of domesticity for the unkown dangers of the wild. If a hobbit film becomes a reunion of the old actors its going to lose that charm. I wanna see different characters brought to life, like beorn and smaug - and I dont want to see big name actors bringing their familiarity to roles that dont require it. - im thinking of the dwarves i guess. Lets have some more talented relative unknowns - just as serkis, boyd etc. were before lotr.
And personally, I dont want to see aragorn growing facial hair for the first time. In fact, I dont want to see his face until frodo arrives at the inn at bree.
I loved the lotr films. But king kong kinda proved a point about overkill. Amazing effects and a fantastic build up in the first third, but once the monkey’s outta the bag, the point is made, the thrill has gone. What was left was simply an amusement ride without the physical participation.
Pan’s Labyrinth. Now that was a story well told.

I don’t mind if LOTR cast appear in the Hobbit but if PJ want to include some parts of The Silmarillion and other Tolkien’s books I would like to see Elrond’s history =P

I’d love to see Galadriel in martial mode. Maybe PJ can do something like she’s throwing out Dol Guldur simply by singing cf. Luthien, or staring down a nazgul, hehehe. I mean, she is the most senior elf (except for Cirdan, maybe) of the White Council, so she should’ve been in the leadership of the Council’s attack. Anyways, I’d love to see Ian McKellen again, or Gollum for that matter. On the other hand, the Hobbit is supposed to be more toned down than the LOTR trilogy, so someone should tell the screen adapters to make it more of a children story. Or make it into a flashback, then it’s quite logic to add in all that gore and bloodlust. Anyways, violence sells, baby, but not a la Rodriguez (Planet Terror, anyone?)
