When he was on the set of the now-number-one movie "3:10 to Yuma" alongside Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, 15-year-old Logan Lerman learned the acting lessons of a lifetime. But if his dreams continue to come true, he'll someday be the one giving orders.
"I really want to become a director some day," revealed the young actor, who returns to the 10th grade this month. "I'm very interested in directing and writing; I'm already writing. Me and my best friend, his name's Dean Collins, he played my best friend on 'Jack & Bobby,' a TV show I did when I first started out like three years ago. We've worked together ever since."
Collins, who is now 17 and most recently acted on the TV show "The War at Home," has been working with Lerman on some ideas that they hope will make them the next Affleck and Damon. "We really want to be that kind of team when we're older," Lerman said. "We want to do everything, really. I think the scripts are pretty good that we've written, and hopefully I'll get to direct them."
In the meantime, Lerman is happy to be on the receiving end of strong critical notices for his performance as William, the conflicted older son of Christian Bale's moralistic farmer in "Yuma." "Acting is amazing, it's true," he grinned. "I forget who said this, but 'Acting is a hobby that pays well.'"
But for the immediate future, both acting and directing will have to take a back seat while the actor who got his start in Mel Gibson's "The Patriot" tackles his toughest role yet: sophomore year. "I just started my school year," he said enthusiastically. "I've been going to school with these kids forever, but this movie's getting so much hype, and everybody wants to see it, so [all my fellow students] keep asking me about it."
