In the weeks following the August 9th announcement that Matthew Vaughn had been chosen to direct “Thor,” an online groundswell has begun to get a certain fan favorite cast in the title role. Sometimes, such efforts fail miserably (think Josh Lucas as Two-Face), but at other times Internet buzz actually plants the idea in the head of the studio (Michael Chiklis as Thing), so the idea of Tyler Mane as Thor might just prove to be a mighty one after all.
“I would love to take a look at that,” Mane responded this week when we asked the 6’8” former professional wrestler about rumors he’s being considered to play the Norse god. “That would be fantastic.”
The connections would seem to be in place already for Mane, who made his movie debut as Sabretooth in the 2000 blockbuster “X-Men,” another Marvel Comics property based on a long-time title. “Oh, I’m most definitely [familiar with the character of Thor], yeah.”
“I would love to,” Mane said of the possibility. “You never know [whether Thor will make it as a movie]. You have all those genres of the comic-book characters coming to life, from the Sabretooth character I did in ‘X-Men’ to all the ones that they did. It could be [the right time for Thor]; it depends on how it’s done, and who writes the script.”
“[Have they come to me] about ‘Thor’?” Mane repeated, shrugging his sizeable shoulders. “I have not heard anything yet, so we’ll see. Hopefully, somebody’s out there writing it for me like Rob [Zombie] wrote [a role in 'Halloween'] for me.”
Directed by Vaughn (”Stardust”) and written by Mark Protosevich (the upcoming Will Smith flick “I Am Legend”), the adaptation of the 45-year-old comic is hoping to begin filming this winter. In the meantime, Mane joked that he might try and persuade Vaughn and the Marvel honchos he’d be perfect for the role by walking around with a giant hammer during the next several months. “Yeah,” he laughed. “I could give some people some ideas!”

For his size 6′8” is huge, Mane definitely looks like a formidable mythological god Thor. In my opinion you don’t find many peoples with that size, and especially not many actors and actresses can look the part for Thor. In my opinion, Thor must look muscular, huge, angry, and Mane was a former wrestler, he played Sabretooth in X-Men, I think he can certainly looks the part as Thor.

True, but he isn’t handsome enough. Who ever plays Thor will be the face of the franchise, I would imagine Marvel would want someone more handsome for the part.
Either way I don’t give a you know what. I just want the movie out already.

Mayne has definitely got the size necessary for the character but, if the producers stay true to the comic, whoever gets the role is going to have to be able to believeably speak in the Shakespearian style of the character(s). I think Marvel is going to have a tough time finding an actor who matches the part both physically and in terms of acting chops.

mane is the wrong choice to play the odinson.while the actor must,I repete, must, look the part,he also needs the acting chops to carry a marvel franchise. The guy who played kenwolf in that antonio bendes viking movie would be great.reguardless, they should probibly go with an unknown(like singer did with routh).I am sure that there are many big, goodlooking, long haired, blond actors on broadway that would love the job.also, i hope that thor spends some time on midguard as the good dr blake.furthermore, the tone of the film should be lord of the rings meets splash(i.e he is a fish out of water on earth).peter jackson would have been a better choice to direct.

Groundswell?? Where?? This is just hype from a publicist. I agree that Thor, to be done well, requires a talented actor. Which is why Matthew Vaughn, the director, has said he’s partial to Kevin McKidd. Anyone who’s seen him in HBO’s Rome knows he is commanding and imposing. He’s certainly the best among those who’ve been suggested for the role.

HI I WRITE FROM MEXICO CITY, MAYNE HAVE THE SIZE I AGREE, BUT I THINK HE NEEDS A LITTLE MORE MUSCULAR MASS. OTHER WHO CAN PLAY THIS ROLE A THINK IS Vladimir Kulich THE ASPECT OF HIS FACE IS HARD AND SERIOUS AND HE IS NOT SHORT 6′5” IN HE’S ROLE AS Buliwyf HE LOOKS LIKE A REALLY VIKING, OTHER CAN BE TRIPLE H GREAT BODY BLONDE HAIR AND SIZE TO.
