Although the words "Amanda Bynes" and "classic works of fiction" may not immediately seem to fit, the former tween variety show star is in the midst of an unusual streak of re-interpretations. We caught up with the recently-turned 21-year-old at the MTV Movie Awards, where Bynes told us that her follow-up vehicle to "She's the Man" (an update of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night") will be "Sydney White."
"It's based on 'Snow White' and it's called 'Sydney White and the Seven Dorks,'" smiled Bynes, who walked the red carpet in a slinky black dress and newly-blonde locks. "It's about a bunch of dorky guys in college, and I sort of Snow White them up. I kind of clean them up, and make them a little less dorky."
The flick also stars longtime Bynes buddy Sara Paxton ("Aquamarine"), Matt Long from "Ghost Rider," and "Dukes of Hazzard" legend John Schneider, alongside a cast of newcomers as the dwarves...er...dorks. "We have all of the dorks you could imagine," Bynes beamed. "And the director, ['Sleepover' helmer] Joe Nussbaum, is a hilarious guy. He was like 'I know dorks, I was one, I am one, I grew up with them, and I just want to make these guys as dorky as possible'. They are all very funny actors, who do a really good job."
Adding "We just wrapped that," Bynes said the flick will be in theaters sometime next year. After that, she'll begin work on a modern-day retelling of Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis," but instead of a gigantic cockroach her character will turn into a sassy butterfly. Just kidding.
